@@sachsenschnitzel6552 Actually, it should be - that consonant is common for both the languages, but in Polish the pronunciation slightly shifted towards "ż" ("ž" in Czech, "zsch"(?) in German). But I guess for the English native speakers the difference is hardly noticeable anyway.

@@martinkuchar9877 Ah good, I could never say r+hacek anyway :P > "zsch"(?) in German In case you're curious, that's the one thing I can tell you: in German writing there is no distinction between z+hacek and s+hacek, but in speaking there is. Both are written as "sch"

@@sachsenschnitzel6552 Echtes Czech "ř" is like pronouncing rolled "r" with your mouth shut and "Zähne zu". :D I know I noticed places' names like "Zschopau" bei Chemnitz, therefore I though so, but nevermind. How do you distinguish the pronunciation then from the reading - you need to just learn when is [š] and when [ž]? And is it only the case in Sächsisch or in other dialects/regions as well?
@sachsenschnitzel65523 жыл бұрын
@@martinkuchar9877 Oh ok then maybe I can say it I guess. I just looked up that town, I have to say I'm really surprised at that spelling and never saw another word or name like it. Wikipedia says it's basically pronounced "tsch..."/"c+hacek" and I certainly would have said it wrong without looking it up haha. That's probably because I'm not from Saxony though, I'm actually Austrian altough my name suggests otherwise :) About the distinction: After thinking about it and researching a little I couldn't find a single non-lean word using [ž]. There's lots of those like "genre" or "dschungel", but at the moment I would go as far as to say words with German origins never use [ž] Though this is universal to German as far as I know and is definitely used in standard German. British English is actually typically incredibly nasal, and so is the southern drawl of the rural southern US. It also shows up in the older generations of the midwest, especially in Wisconsin and Minnesota, both the latter regions historically dominated by German and Scandinavian immigrants respectively. That would be because having *OFFICIAL* languages is about functionality. It's kind of in the word: OFFICIAL. (Office, bureaucractic...) Statistically nobody speaks those ancient languages. It would be like lamenting that Latin is no longer an official language in European countries. The majority of the genetic descendants of the speakers of such languages speak Xhosa, Tswana etc., even Afrikaans.

Hello! Another geography fan from Manchester, England 🐝 Fun fact for all that don't know: a half crown is 2 shillings and 6 pence or one eighth of a pound, half crowns were minted for hundreds of years until the British currency was finally decimalised in 1971 and the shilling abolished. But a lot of the old coinage was still used after with new values because there weren't enough coins yet. Nerdy I know but I felt like sharing 😂

Dankie Barbs. I recall when State President FW de Klerk, BA, LLB (Potch) and Minster Leon Wessels, BA, LLB, told the country about the new flag on TV. On the "Die Burger" news paper the red in the flag was more orange in color. Late in life I have read the De Klerk have told the newspaper to change the color... Thanx 4 showing the old flag. The old flag was troublesome also in White community. The English wanted something of a Union Jack and the Afrikaners wanted something of a the Dutch flag. There was NO middle ground. Later an all White flag was put forward. Genl. Jan C. Smuts, DSc, LLD. of the VP/ UP put all the flags on top of one another. It looked very silly. Genl. Hertzog of the NP mixed all 4 flags(ZAR, OVS, UJ and the flag of the Volksraad/ Parliament) on the old old Dutch flag. (Prince flag). Parliament then change it to the UJ, OVS and ZAR. BUT the UJ was first1. The flag was first made public in Cuba by Dr. (I think it was Jansen or "Dongest") on 31 Desember 1927. And on 1 Jan. 1928 in South Africa. Still in 1987 Dr. Ferdi Hartzenberg of the CP, deputy head of the opposition, said that the Union Jack must be removed out of the "Die RSA Nationale vlag". In the early 1990's I have seen a the Smuts flag in a tiny store in Goodwood, near Cape Town. In 1999 I was in the UK and there the English still used the "old RSA flag"... I am sorry 2 hear about YT. That is not good of YT.

I am South African currently living in the UK 🇬🇧. I will tell you the true Meaning of the South African flag 🇿🇦. Black, yellow and green are the coloures of the ANC (African National Congress), a current ruling political party which generally fought for the Freedom of Black people against apartheid system. Red, White and Blue are coloures of both the Dutch and the English flags; they represent White citizens of South Africa who are to a greater extent descendants of the Dutch and British people). So, the combination of these coloures into a converging pattern means unity of Black and White people into one nation with a united future.

UK one is so much better tho (I'm from the UK so I am more than slightly biased!).
