When being on cots in the cold weather make sure to bring an insulate pad. It will make it a fantastic night sleep in almost any weather. The air goes under the cots and with the pad it helps give you a layer between the cold air and you.

Some hot tents have partial floors (open where stove sits), if you want a better hot tent model look at what channels like Survivaland or Joe Robinet use, they test a lot on YT. Love the hot tent videos. Try batoning up some kindling, I was scared your going to lose a finger bud. You can probably buy a fire proof stove jack kit for that tent and a tent repair kit for the burn hole. FYI your Mountain House meals should have a fill to the line mark in the them for the water measurement.

Joe is a great channel to check out. He can show Flair how to chop that wood without almost chopping off his fingers 😅

I was going to point out the same things. I kinda feel like minimal research would of covered these things. Even the description for the tent would of likely mentioned the half floor kit and stove jack. But then Flair wouldn’t be Flair lol and where’s the fun in that.

Repair kit? 🤭😂 he’s just going to buy another one. I was on the edge of my seat ready to scream at my phone for him to baton that thing to make firewood 🤦🏻♂️ he also destroyed the ceramic lining of that percolator with the first drops of water, ingesting ceramic shards is really dangerous.

I have the same mini woodstove in my small workshop. Definitely gets the job done. It should have come with a square of fiberglass thats supposed to go in that square of the tent and has velcro material to stick onto that tent hole. Then you cut and x in the center of the fiberglass for the mini chimney to go through. Great video, love the ever changing content. So much variety that it never becomes monotonous

@OG_BIGBOY Жыл бұрын
Flair, so about the coffee pot. You need to fill the water to just below where the coffee container for the grounds sit, so there is enough pressure on the water to go up the little pipe in the middle. There should be a pretty much even layer of coffee grounds so you cannot see the metal tray on which the grounds are sitting. The time also just depends on how hot the fire is, if the fire is hot enough, watch the little bulb at the top and let the coffee boil decently for 15 min. Then after you start taking coffee out of the pot, it most likely won't be able to boil, but you can still set the pot back onto the fire to keep it warm.

My tips for hot tents: use a canvas tent the one you got looks cheap and probably why it melted, and yes most don’t come with a floor. Aslo yes that lid is for putting pots on. The chimney does get red hot however be carful bc if it’s galvanized, the fumes coming off when it’s burning off for the first time can be toxic.

You forgot to break in. For the stove that's why it's burning red you you have to preheat the stove before use because of the flame retardant paint on the exterior that's why you need to do a break in. And there's usually a protective collar around the exterior of the tent that doesn't necessarily come with the hot 10 because they don't know the size of the stove that you are going to be using

A percolator needs at least 4 cups of water to work since its a difference of pressure that causes them to work. Also they don't need to boil to work either, a simmer will work just fine if you have enough water in them. Yours has a ceramic coating, so dumping cold water into the hot carafe would cause the ceramic to shatter which can be dangerous if you accidentally injest some of the broken pieces. Anyway percolators are nice, just takes a little bit of uses to get familiar with them.

I really like this video but one thing that will keep you warmer during the night is using a sleeping pad on top of the cot and the sleeping pad needs at least a R-value of 4 or higher for winter camping. The sleeping pad prevents the cold air getting to you from under the cot and it will help retain your body heat. You also need to try the biscuits and gravy from mountain house meals too. Keep the camping and survival videos coming.
@howeslife44 Жыл бұрын
I’ve been asking for a 3-7 day winter camping/hunting trip for years. This route looks like the best option. Just enough roughing it with the least amount chance of freezing to death. Combine cook what you catch/shoot and get real MRE’s. A bigger tent and Banjo joining is a must! As for coffee, get an aeropress and just add hot water. Adding some more survival elements would be cool as well, like using only water from nature, boiled and use lifestraws.

I love winter camping, I used to go every year with my ex father in law. He bought a ginormous teepee from some tent maker in the Dakotas. Came with 23 foot tall lodgepole pine posts and a heavy canvas cover. If you wanted to go nuts they also sell a leather one if you want to go full on authentic. It slept 3 grown men plus my 110 pound Chesapeake bay monster. We had an army surplus stove in there and we were in tee shirts and shorts every night during deer season in indiana. Temps ranged from 40s in the daytime some years to negative nighttime lows in the tough years, but we were always comfortable inside. If winter camping turns out to be something you like I recommend going teepee

Our wall tent don’t come with a floor so if you want it make sure to say it but it does have a sod cloth ( a ten inch strip of vinyl the is sewn to the bottom of the wall to stop water or wind from coming in).If you are interested just let me know I would be honored to help.

Percolated coffee, like the kind you have in the blue pot, is the BEST coffee ever. It is too bad that it took so long to get it boiling, but I assure you it is bomb when it's done. Give it a try at home sometime, with the pot on the stove. I think the key is you needed more water (& coffee) - 2/3 of the pot or until it touches the grounds basket. Jake looked really, really tired. I'll bet he headed home for a snooze after this! Great video - thanks for doing what you do! Heather🇨🇦

The tent melted because it was supposed to be used with a stove jack. The square of light colored fabric with a hole in the middle for the pipe to go through, and you shouldn't burn in a stove the first time in an enclosed space, they have oils and whatnot on them from manufacturing that aren't great to breathe. I have that same tent, and it's works great here in Minnesota. Hot tenting will totally be worth it once you get the hang of it.
