Lisa, you have been, are, and always will be AMAZING. This work is so fantastic. You are indeed a master of the 'color pencil'. you not only create wonderful work, you have a gift on how to demonstrate what you do and a talent to teach your techniques. I have lost track on how ling I have been viewing your work, but you get better and better each time I view your work. Lisa, we all appreciate what you do and how you do it. Have a great day.

I have seen a lot of your tutorial videos and this is probably my very favorite end result. I love the way you use the lavenders and oranges in the bird and the way you abstract the water! Thanks for the powder blender tips. I just started using the medium and I appreciate your insight and tips!

Lisa, how do you deal with the nerves before starting a new painting? I'm working on three concentrations that tie into each other, and I've done all my research but it's rough. Getting started, actually started with the paint (oil on canvas) really stops me from comfortably getting started.

with the texture fixative does it matter if you spray over the paper you haven't drawn/coloured on yet. I see you spray often over your drawing but I worry about the paper not drawn on. Lovely piece Lisa

Nope, it doesn't matter at all :)

Is there another way of applying the gesso without using an airbrush?? And would I need to buy all the supplies that are listed on the website for my first time using it??? Such an amazing work!!!
@Lachri7 жыл бұрын
You can paint it on but you can end up with uneven brush strokes that way. It's much easier to just buy some sanded paper. The uArt 500 is pretty good and not too expensive if you're looking for lower cost alternatives :)

Cara Thank you for a wonderful demo of a brand new (to me) method. I bought the whole kit, followed your instructions and have finished my picture. Now I have questions about the final fixative spray. Does it waterproof and protect my work so that I do not need a glass and can just put it into a frame? If not, how do I attach a mat to the heavy sand paper board? And on my card under medium, do I "put "polychromo colored pencil onProArt Board"? Help!

can any other workable fixative be used for powder blender if textured fixative is not available?
@carabrinkley52867 жыл бұрын
Lisa, I am so excited to have found your site. I have been doing colored pencil for years sometimes using OMS. I have ordered the oil based pencils and the powder blender kit. Can't find the Fisher 400 Sanded Paper Premounted. Where do you order yours? In my "impulse purchase" pile I found an Ampersand pastel board and a textured clay board. Would either work? Cara
@abupip41406 жыл бұрын
Question... I just ordered the powder blender as it looks like it has an awesome effect! You mention using sanded paper or gessoing paper as it needs a non-absorbent surface. I have gessoed mdf panels already. Would these work just as well with the powder blender? It would be non absorbent, but perhaps would it be too hard a surface compared to gessoed paper?

Girrrrl you're costing me a lot of $$$...bought OMS, a full set of polychromos (I have a large set of Prismacolors too), now just bought texture fixative and touch-up texture/titanium white... 🤣 It's a good thing, though..I was getting "stuck" on some things and am eager to try the texture fixative, etc. Loving the polychromos. Hoping your back feels better! Thank you for the videos, they are so informative!

Hi Lisa, I have a question. In your opinion, would Grumbacher workable fixative work in place of the texture fixative from brush and pencil? I just cannot afford the $18 plus $14 shipping to get the brand you recommend in the video. I want your honest opinion though, even if it's gonna cost me more. Thanks for all you do.
@KatheLewis7 жыл бұрын
Hi Lisa, I saw another demo where you talked about not using this method on normal paper, only on sanded board or gessoed paper. But I would like to know, does the textured spray work on normal paper? in general, how does these products work on oil pencils vs wax pencils? Getting hold of the products in Europe is impossible because of the spraycans that can't be sent by air mail. Can't get sanded paper here or prismacolor pencils either Wish they would sell it in pump atomizers whitch would eliminate that problem.
@corvuscorone77357 жыл бұрын
you can order prismacolors on amazon. I did, and I live in Germany. And Boesner (German art supply store, also on the internet) sells sanded paper.
@KatheLewis7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! But my question to Lisa still stands..
@corvuscorone77357 жыл бұрын
Apparently, Lisa is in hospital at present, so she can't reply. She says that the powder blender works well on oil based pencils like the Polychromos, not so well on wax-based ones like Luminance. The texture spray should work on them all. HTH

Do you prefer Odourless Mineral Spirits or powder blender?
@deathwish7667 жыл бұрын
Sweeney stainpain H84U Ummm... No. She uses odourless minerals spirits and the powder blender for two different things, because they achieve two different things. If she had started off the drawing using odorless mineral spirits and then changed to powder blender would that then mean by your logic that she preferred the powder blender?

Tanvir Kaur Dhillon She usually draws the subject on a separate paper and the transfers it to the canvas/paper

@mackybarr7 жыл бұрын
Tanvir Kaur Dhillon If you are in doubt about what to choose it could help you to Google examples of the mediums you have in mind, so you have an idea of the effect that can be achieved with said mediums (and how much detail you can add with each)

You can either freehand or use the grid method if it is paper that you are drawing on. If it is canvas, use transfer paper or a projector to project the reference pic onto the canvas. 😊👍🏻

how do i know what medium i use for an idea that i have? do I just pick one that I feel like?
@mackybarr7 жыл бұрын
Adriaan van Pijkeren It would depend on how comfortable you are with a medium, the end result you want, and the subject (if you are using references)
@rofete7 жыл бұрын
I love it, it's beautiful...
@AfshanCKArts7 жыл бұрын
Adriaan van Pijkeren If you like paints. Use paints. If like them to dry faster then use Acrylics. If you don't want them to dry faster and want to do a lot of blending use, oils. If you holding pencils and love working for a looong time, by making several layers and blending them. Use colour pencils. Also watch video on how to use each medium on youtube. Lisa might have them as well. Finally make a decision and buy a small set if your preferred medium. Use it 😊 And when you can buy another medium to try again.Hope it helped👍🏻

You are very talented however and I mean this is the best way possible, I feel like a lot of artists on here aren't taking the time to do real time teaching of the PROCESS of how they get these amazing works rather more of a showing off of their skills in a sped up manner. I watch to learn things and as soon as I see it's going to be a sped up version I end the video. I think it would be more beneficial to viewers if you were to show your techniques in real time, don't edit out your mistakes being made, show and name ALL colors ur using and how ur applying them, how your blending, when you switch mediums ect... I don't know about anyone else but I want to see a real time painting video where it's right up to the canvas so we can see every detail even if it takes several videos to do one painting rather than seeing a lightening fast sped up version. I absolutely love your work and would love to see more in depth teaching I guess is what I'm trying to say!
