This video is a strong argument for becoming a patreon. I love the helpful tid bits from shorter videos, but nothing beats watching someone pain stakingly work through 'the ugly layers' in real-ish time. Outstanding video Lisa, Alyona sent me a set of the powder blender kit after I done a job for her and I have been trying lots of different combinations with UART paper from 400 - 800 papers and various pencils from Pablos, ProColour, Polychromos and Derwent Artists, which I know a lot of people hate but with this method, the Derwent Artist pencils are amazing because they are such a hard core and not packed with pigment so layering is a dream. However, as I am an idiot, I have been doing lots of things wrong and not getting the results as I hoped for. I have to say, I find it difficult using sanded paper, especially if I am working in the living room and my wife is trying to watch TV, I swear she is going to ninja snap my neck one night because of the noise from the pencil on the sanded paper, lol. Any way excellent excellent video and I have certainly picked up so many tips and ideas from you thank you.

Lachri Fine Art thank you Lisa, I now have apple juice running out of my nose from taking a drink just as your reply came in and laughing my head off. I just pictured me behind a fence making as much noise as I like with my wife losing her mind and not being able to get to me lol. I have to say my wife is actually really placid, I’m making her out to be a mad lunatic, which she becomes when I start using sanded paper, but any other time she is the most gentle soul, which makes it all the more funny. Thank you Lisa, I’ve not had a good laugh in ages, now I’m drowning in apple juice.

I'm so glad you always remind people that getting the values right is so much more important than colour-matching. My fiance is always getting on me, saying things like "oh you didn't do that lantern the right shade of blue". I always tell her it really isn't that important and that values are what really create realism but she thinks I'm just totally wrong on that. Also I like how you tell us about all your mistakes so we don't have to make the same ones. Most artists on youtube don't do that, they'll do things like cut the part out of the video where they made the mistake, and they definitely don't list the mistakes they make on each project. Thanks for your honesty and your helpfulness! :-)

I work a summer job that my pay cut is dependent on how much we sell in the 2 weeks we are open - this year, for the first time in 50 years, we sold out. Of everything. All items. I have a bigger than normal pay cut this year and so far I've spent so much on just art supplies! A big portion of it is due to your videos! I already had mostly everything I needed for watercolor and oil but I wanted to get into colored pencils and I've ordered a 60 set of Prismacolor, 120 set of Polychromos, and even a 120set of faber-castell watercolor pencils(more because I like watercolor haha)...I ordered the blended set to try it out since you were saying it's more like oil or pastels and I feel like that may be more up my alley than prismacolor. I'm so glad this year worked out for me money wise others I'd be itching to try these without being able to! This video is SO HELPFUL.

I have used this product and pan pastel with the Spectrafix fixative. They’re both VERY good, but I find pan pastel even simpler and faster. For anyone that’s new to this, Archival Lux paper has just come out and was designed to use with the brush and pencil products. It is the very best paper to use with colored pencil. The colors come out incredibly vibrant.

Hi Lisa! I hope your move into your new home is going well. Yep, this is the first time I've ever watched this video of yours. Thanks SO much for doing it! I just ordered some powdered blender and look forward to trying it out. I also ordered some of the Uart sanded paper you suggested. I've got my new Polychromos pencils too! So, I'm looking forward to diving into a new medium (for me)! I haven't been doing much painting at all for like 6 months. I haven't been into it at all, since my little shih tzu, Merlin, got really sick and died a few months ago. I'm just heart-broken over it. You probably don't remember, but you critiqued a painting I did of him, I think it was last year. Anyway, I am finally starting to feel a bit like creating art again. I really appreciate having your videos to help me learn how to use colored pencils.

I love the tracing paper method to transfer the sketch. If you don't mind the image being backwards... a bone tool or blunt tool can be used to rub the image straight from the tracing paper to the final without the second round of tracing. It only works once, till the graphite is gone.

I recently bought the powder blender kit, intending to use gessoed paper, since I was going to use the product for illustration and continually buying sanded paper is just not an option for my budget right now. However I'm having trouble getting the consistency and layers of gesso right, so I decided I would buy a pack of UART500 papers, and get a feel for the blender on them, and then go back to my experiments with the gesso.

Lisa, you're an amazingly talented artist! I can't tell you how excited I am about the new Powder Blender products. You have inspired me so dramatically I can't wait to get started. I ordered all the components for the Powder Blender techniques. I ordered about 15 sheets of sanded paper before hearing you talk about ProPanels. When you were talking about the ProPanels you quickly mentioned that you used to permanently affix your sanded paper to a board. So, how do you adhere the single sheets to a board? Would you please explain how you did this? What kind of adhesive (liquid, dry, film) and what kind of board (type, density, etc)? I'm going to have to do this with the sanded paper I already purchased. Thanks,Beth Ross PS. I've joined your Patreon; so looking forward to watching you work....A lot!! YAY!

I've been curious about this stuff. Just recently discovered how fun sanded paper is in general, but I've been just blending with a blending stump. I was wondering what it is you like about the UArt 500 compared to other weights? I got a pack of all the different weights to try them and so far I've tried the 400 and the 800.
