TL;DW Don't get me wrong, the ship has some glaring weaknesses that build upon each other, huge long size + weak torpedo belt + weak AA = An unflattering combination that's practically begging to be exploited. But on the other hand, with intelligent use of Hydroacoustic search you can still push in with a terrifying 12x 420mm gun platform that fires shells every 28.2s with a velocity faster than the Yamato's! Is this ship going to de-throne the Yamato though? No, no chance. As you can see from my volleys at the angled NC at around 25 minutes, the GK, just like the Montana, can't deal well with angled BBs. A Yamato is so faceroll that it shoots straight through anything angled and still remains the only BB able to do so, meaning it's by far the most superior BB. Is it as bad as the community in general has made it out to be? No, not in my opinion. The sheer firepower it has available makes it impossible for me to ever consider it truly weak, and anyone who has been on receiving end of one of its 420mm AP volleys will most likely agree. It does however scale with player skill more than other BBs, as the weaknesses it has must be countered with intelligent play (proper use of hydro against DDs, sailing with cruisers to help counter AA weakness, positioning highly important against HE spam), and the average sniping BB player will most likely not enjoy it that much, as the large size makes it easy to hit at long ranges while isolating yourself in the back renders your hydro useless and leaves you victim to CV strikes. Yet when this ship hits live you will no doubt see players slap a range module on it and attempt to snipe from the back, with disappointing results I might add, and proceed to complain about it, never comprehending that they are fundamentally misunderstanding the ship. As for buffs, the biggest thing the ship needed was a significantly better torpedo belt to help cope with the size of the ship, I don't know how much the HP buff they gave will ultimately help, because it pretty much just translates into being able to eat one more torp.

What advantages do you see in the Currywurst compared to the Montana? Hydro aside, which I admit is damn useful, what else is there? As far as I recall, the 420mm are straight up slightly worse than Montana superheavy 406ers, with worse Krupp and weight (and 420mm doesn't actually overmatch anything relevant better than 406mm), and Monty gets slightly better fire rate and much better turret angles on the rear guns to boot? I mean, I haven't played the Kurfürst obviously - do the guns really feel more punchy than on the Monty?

The turtleback should definitely help in up close engagements which is what this ship seems to be designed for. That HP buff is nice to have but seemed unnecessary given how difficult it is just to citadel it. Flamu gave plenty of broadsides throughout this video but all those fat German bulkheads ate those incoming shells like spicy bratwurst.Overall I like the overall intended playstyle of the ship but one should wonder WHY WG had advertised it as having "advanced torpedo protection" when it's barely inexistent. Training room with a yamato and kurfurst. Both with full secondary built. 2 rounds: against a swarm of destroyers ( no torping or main armament fire, so a competition of who can sink the dd's the fastest). Second round versus each other (no main armament fire).

There's no justification for the garbage torpedo protection on German BBs. The wreck of Bismarck demonstrated clearly that it did what it was designed to do, namely absorb the damage OUTSIDE the inner torpedo bulkhead. In other words, you shouldn't get a flood at all, other than minor. But the whole damage model on this game is FUBAR, with IJN magic fire starter 8" guns despite them historically having the LOWEST HE bursting charge (the bit that makes the 'bang') of any 8" naval shell of WWII. WG making shit up for 'flavour' as usual.

(69.67 kg) So for AP, the Colorado has a little larger. For HE? The Colorado has 57% LARGER. North Carolina and later have 18.55kg in the AP. +xflamousz which is why they need to buff it's torpedo belt. grosser kurfurst is an h41 battleship that was modified by wargaming with triple turrets to make it more competitive. and h41 was supposed to have great torpedo protection and h42 h43 and h44 would have even better. i spelled it grosser kurfurst because i don't have a german keyboard.

This type of review is what I love about Flamu. Unconventional and sticks to his guns no matter what others are saying and then backs it up by proving it in real games. I actually get along ok in the Monty and actually enjoy playing it more than my yammy in some respects and this looks like it may be a better Montana. Only saved up 550,000 FreeXP so I still have some grinding to do and am on a business trip so not gonna be able to get this ship until the weekend but looking forward to it.

The size of the Großer Kurfürst tells me it is based off the later H series, H42-44. yamato was jjst shy of 280 meter long, the same size as the H41. Honestly it's probably based off the H43 which was 330 meters long. (H44 was 345) Yet its guns belong to the H41, the H43 had 19inch guns.

Yeah i've heard lf that, which makes sense. The yamato's guns were oversized in real life, putting paper ship guns even bigger than the already oversized guns of a real life ships is a slippery slope. Probably why they put x12 16.5 inch guns on the H43/44 hull. (now i'm leaning towards it being the H44 hull, considering the H44 had a speed of 30 knots like the Großer Kurfürst while the H43 had a speed of 31 knots. Though i don't think the Großer Kurfürst is 65 meters longer than the yamato, 50 seems more accurate. Really it just seems more like WG chose a chimera of the H41-44 rather than a spesific variant. Which really begs the question why they chose to give it (and other german BB's) such poor torpedo protection. German battleships were known for two things, accurate guns (though vulnerable through it's rangefinders being knocked out) and heavy/good armor (which WG did right) and good torpedo resistance (which is blatantly false in WoWs) The 16.5 inch guns really needs to differentiate themselves over the 16 inch guns. The damage is the same as the montana (unless it has been buffed, the 16.5 inch does 13500, montana's 16 inch guns does the same) Maybe the AP values are better, though there is no metric given for this in the game, we only know of the overmatch mechanics. At least it got a 20k health buff, which makes sense if the ships displaces more than 100k tons and is 330+ meters long.

The Yamato was 263 Metres long. (Just 2 metres longer than the Hood). The Iowas were 270 Metres long. The Montanas were designed to be 280 Metres long, the same length as the German H39s (Friedrick Der Große). The Großer Kurfürst was based off the H41 which were 320 metres long.

TheGeekWithNoChill Yeah i did not remember correctly. That said, the H41 was to be 282m long, not 320. So Kurfürst cannot be based on it. And Friedrick Der Grosse (don't have the double s key, too lasey to copy paste it yet apparently not since i'm writing this) is way bigger than the H39 series which were about the size of the Bismark/Tirpitz. As far as i can tell, now that some time has passed is that the German t9/10 BB's are chimeras and not actually based on one single ship design.

Thats exactly my Tier 10 Ships list :D i can recommend you the Minotaur if you like to play as a big DD großer Kurfurst is in my opinion extrem hard to play and no fun at all because you get a ton of damage from all hits... even DD hits Moskva is my recommendation... extrem damage and very good armor + movability Same as the Zao but a bit better in my opinion.

BTW: How does a secondary build work for these ships (Bismarck and up)? I used to run it on my tirpitz, but switched to concealment because being the biggest DD ingame has produced incredible amounts of fun. However, the new german BB's trade i ntorps for ranged secodnarys, soo... how is that working out? Tirpitz secondarys were good when they got the chance to be used. My Yamato runs secondarys (including the t5 skill) and its good at brawling. How d othe German bb hold up? Or would it be better to run em all at full conceal?

montana is faster and more versatile. yamato having the biggest guns and good armour. and grosser kurfurst and many german bbs are based solely on armour. montana= jack of all trades yamato= the big guns grosser kurfurst= a bigass fuckin tank. i couldn't pronounce it as it is due to having a non german keyboard.

The length of that ship comfirms my thoughts: it's not based on H41 but on H42 at least. So it should have had 480mm guns...not 420 or tiny 406mm. But WG sticks to their phylosophy Yamato's 46cm will be the biggets guns...so they had to come up with thise triple turrets...and they made the turret cases so big to make it visually more authentic. But that won't fool me. >.>

It's not based on H42. You can't compare lengths of ships from regular camera view, the perspective messes with things. You need overhead CV view. It -is- longer than Montana, but not by much.

I'm a little surprised to hear you say that 420mm makes such a big difference. I mean, Montana still has a bigger dpm - both shells do 13500 dmg, and Monty has a higher rof. The only REAL reason the 460mm of Yama is such an upgrade is that it can (just barely) overmatch 32mm of armor, but 420mm still can't... and apart from that, you score very few "broken-up-on-impact" hits in a Montana as is. So, you trade away some range, your AA and even more turning (already disastrously bad on the Montana) for hydro - you are less afraid of DDs, but more afraid of CVs. Montana is very weak on the side, but you say this ship is no exception to that, you still can't risk showing broadside. So my question is: is there something you do here that you could not do equally good or better in a Montana?

Kurfurst has huge 33% damage zone. Even if a yamato showed broadside you have to be careful where you aim to actually do damage, while against Kurfurst just land shots anywhere at the belt and you'll get pen.

I think the thing here is that some of the ships in WoWs demand certain playstyle and taste. Not everything is for everyone. This is the case with the Greater Bratwurst here. Its different tastes, builds and playstyles and also skill level of the player. There's usually the ship that caters to most ppl, thats most powerful on the main guns and survivabilty. Then there's a ship that caters to lots of ppl that want a all around good ship thats isn't too op on any category. And then there's the one that has special niche things here and there that you can capitalize if you have the experience and skill.

I know WG loves german stuff, * sarcasm out * Flamu dont wants to disappoint you about this ship, but i think with his skills he could easily show us 250k+ dmg with a GOOD BB. I see terrible firing angles, meh dispersion (irl ger accuracy was good, jutland, Bismarck vs Hood), an abyssmal torp belt (irl Bismarck couldnt be sunk by rn torps. Dont get me wrong, i dont want ger stuff op). All in all just a big nazi-thing to rek with a awesome soviet railgun pening every armor superduper BB (when released). You know, how they shitted on the Gneisenau and the Scharnhorsts 28s. Königsberg, Nürnberg, Yorck and Hipper are just huge citadels to destroy. And those rainbow arcs and awfull dispersion wich every semi-good player dodges. You are too dependent on rng with those ships ! Yep. That's what happens when the people implementing this ship into the game have to put wide triple turrets with 16"/16.5" guns into positions intended for thinner dual 18" turrets. And we all know why they are forced to do that. Because the Yamato HAS to have the biggest guns in the game. ;) I would have prefered to see the choice of guns on the Großer Kurfürst be between triple 16" turrets that are smaller than the ones available now and have better firing arcs, and dual 16.5" turrets with much better arcs, better turn time and faster RoF(faster than the triple 16").

I was REALLY hoping to finally have a functioning secondary build at T10, but why would they give the Großer Kurfürst, which is much larger than the Yamato, worse secondaries? Wtf?

Whether that's true or not, that's not the point. The ship can be as big as it wants to, I'm fine with that. What I'm not fine with, is that it doesn't have the best secondaries in the game, even though that's supposed to be the German thing...

The Bismarck, Tier 9, and GK all can be specked to 10.7 kilometer all HE secondaries. Very overpowered with manual secondaries

Your two games have very aggressive opponents. This is very much out of the norm in the current meta of the game. The HP buff was justified based on WG's way of creating the HP stats of a ship. Displacement = how long it stays afloat before sinking = HP. It is crazily stupid to make a ship 1/3 longer and heavier than the Yamato but not give it the HP as well.

When I look at the comparison between the Großer Kurfürst and the Yamato in the beginning of the video, I can't help but facepalm for minutes. Look at the turrets... LOOK AT THEM! The huge triple 18" turrets on the Yamato are 25%(or even more) THINNER than the triple 16"/16.5" turrets of the Großer Kurfürst! WHAT IN THE NAME OF FUCK?! Simply put, this is beyond retarded. They should reduce the turret size of the Kurfürst and by doing that improve the turret arcs. THAT would be a real buff. Also, WTH is up with the position of the aircraft catapult on the Tier 9 and 10 german BBs?! ALL H class design proposals had the aircraft catapult in the space between the 2 funnels... *because that is where the damn cranes for moving the aircrafts from the hangar to the catapults are!* I'm tearing my hair out looking at these 2 ships, how can Wargamings design department fuck up the visuals(and by extension the turret arcs) SO BADLY?? And the worst part is that what they did is not even explainable at all, by any argument. Marcel Ebert omg finally someone that understands how i feel! The turrets on it are for the 19" guns it was supposed to have, but since they didnt give it the 19" guns, we get these peashooters instead with shit arcs. And the ship looks sooo fucking baren! like its much bigger then the Yamato and yet most of its space is this gorgeous hardwood flooring ffs fill it with more 55mm and 128mm!!! This entire ship is what happens when they see a design they could use for a ship, but realize itd be stronger then the Yamato, so they nerf the shit out of it!
