The funny thing about the Yardrat bit is that it's closer to canon than Garlic Jr., whom you suggested. That brief flashback was crucial to explaining why Goku learned instant transmission
@johnzahm1932 жыл бұрын
Even so there's no saga for it in the manga or anime, plus a lot of casual fans don't even know what is and isn't in the manga (I haven't read much of it but I can pick out filler pretty well) and for those casual fans the creators honestly could have included garlic Jr and I even thought it was canon when I was first getting into Dragonball, I even used to think the movies were canon until I figured out that they can't be with the exception of maybe 3 that could fit into the main timeline, and of course we all know that the movies weren't written by Toriyama and I wish they would include that saga in one of the games cuz I actually enjoyed it even though it's easily the weakest of all Dragonball filler and hated by a lot of fans
@lotuseater21842 жыл бұрын
@@johnzahm193 Okay, it's not that Toriyama didn't write it, it's that it cannot happen within a logical timeline. The events of Dead Zone are supposed to occur after Goku has Gohan yet before the events of the Saiyan Saga. During the Saiyan Saga, everyone at Kame House makes a really big deal about the fact that Goku has had a kid in the time between their previous meeting. However in Deadzone, the movie starts with Garlic Jr. kidnapping Gohan and Goku going to Kame House to get Bulma, Krillin, & Roshi to help him track down the location of this child they've apparently heard of before. More importantly, Garlic Jr. uses the Dragonballs to become immortal, which can't be true because Goku has already gathered 3 Dragonballs by the start of the Saiyan Saga. Deadzone can't take place before the Saiyan Saga because Bulma, Krillin, & Roshi wouldn't have known about Gohan and the Dragonballs would've been inactive, it can't be between the Saiyan Saga & the Freiza Saga because Goku would already know Kaioken, & it definitely isn't after the Freiza Saga because Goku can't turn into a Super Saiyan in Dead Zone.
@johnzahm1932 жыл бұрын
@@lotuseater2184 I know that the dead zone doesn't fit, the movies that can fit into the main timeline are the cooler movies that take place during the 3 year training period, Bojack unbound and wrath of the dragon

I did really like the local co-op and finding collectables / exploring the levels (even if they're linear) for Z-Coins and stuff, but overall it was just OK-ish. This is definitely one of the more forgettable titles, and I put it with Taiketsu, which I did not really like growing up, and they both score rather low on review sites too. I'd say it's fun to play once with a friend and just laugh about it; the story is rather short and the replay value is kinda bad, and it definitely doesn't age well but still holds a spot with me solely for nostalgia.

Since I played Sagas before Legacy of Goku 2, this game gave me exactly what I wanted out of a dragonball game back in the day. I wanted an adventure game, instead of a ruddy fighting game all the time. To be fair, I love the Budokais, I have all 3 and infinite world. I have all 3 tenkaichi games. But I also still keep Sagas in my collection for some things they tried to do that may not have worked as well as we'd like, but were still pretty fun. Parts of my favourite aspect of these games were adding these little new segments like the Yardrat level. I know it's probably absolutely nothing like how Goku's training actually went on Yardrat, but it helps play with your imagination and lets you think that you're actually doing something on Yardrat this time. I also would have appreciated letting you play as the villains in Pendelum Mode... and have the Broly fight in the story mode somewhere. And the Bardock story in the story mode somewhere like the Trunks arc was. I also like that the Saibamen have various colours and each colour represents a certain different power. Some colours fire these toxic blasts, others self destruct, others hulk out, etc. I liked that variety. I also kinda enjoyed an Android Army that Gero could have also made to terrorize cities that you had to fight through before meeting the main Androids. The RoSaT levels kinda felt like tutorials for learning how to fight that you probably should have had at the start of the game somehow like mission 2 have a Piccolo trains Gohan or Kaio trains Goku segment where you're learning the movesets and stuff but... I guess that was too much to ask for. But every single character as you'll quickly come to notice has the exact same fight animation (although... so do the Legacy of Goku characters pretty much), fire the same generic ki blasts (Legacy of Goku?), and have various recolourings of a beam or a blast type attack for a special (Oh hey! Legacy of Goku, how ya doing?). Maybe it's my inner cry, crying at the loudest for my dream Dragonball Musou game. But this game comes as close as I'm probably gonna get to that. One Piece got it! Naruto had that Uzumaki Chronicles 1 and 2 thing (Which I also have. AND LOVE! THOSE GAMES ARE AWESOME!) which was a pretty good adventure beat em up style game! Why can't Dragonball get a GOOD adventure game? I dunno, man. I have a major soft spot for this game. I played it the year it came out renting it from blockbuster and managed to beat it the week I rented it back in the day. I was struggling on the Cell Fight but ironically, contrary to how you did it, I COULDN'T beat it single player. I plugged in a second controller so that I could build ONE of the gohans' ki up while I fought cuz I kept messing up and having his Ki keep draining while as a SSJ so I couldn't reach SSJ2. It took having my Ki freeze when swapping through co-op to be able to build up enough Ki to manage to do this with two controllers sitting in my room. I absolutely love. And hate. The Pendulum Room. Sure, you can form your dream team of Yamcha and Broly. But only Broly (or other characters with a transformation) are going to amount to anything in this game. Cuz characters who can't transform are going to do frag all damage to bosses, who are far more aggressive with their attack spamming, and you'll eventually fail, or take a reeeeeeeeeeeeaalllly long time to win. You should also mention this is also the only game with a PLAYABLE one-armed Future Gohan. While Future Gohan has been playable in other games (WITH A BLOODY MOVESET CENTRED AROUND USING ONE ARM!) he always has two arms for some reason. This is the ONLY game that gives you a One Arm option. And I LOVE it for that. They even SLIGHTLY modify his moveset so he attacks with one arm! For THIS game, I have to give it credit for THAT! In Conclusion, or Tl'dr: Dragonball Z Sagas represents the wasted potential of my ultimate dream adventure game that tided me over until I got to play Legacy of Goku 2. I loved the aspect of a slightly open area to run around in, an adventure style beat em up game where you could fight your enemies how you like. Did they stick the landing? Did this come even CLOSE to Dynasty Warriors 4? Oh, my, no. No. Hell no. But it's the closest you'll ever get to that type of game. I'm still holding out for a Dragonball Musou game. Can you just see it? Dragonball: Saiyan Warriors

I was 6 or 7 when I got this game. I loved it, and spent many days of my childhood playing it religiously. Beating the game and unlocking ALL of those additional characters really was a highlight of my younger years I remember when I was 10 I started reading reviews for it online and saw how everyone hated it. It confused the shit out of me. Did we even play the same game? Tried to go back when I got older and realized everyone else was right.

The problem with the endgame unlock mode was the characters were scaled accordingly. For instance Broly could one or two shot most enemies while Yamcha could be one or two shot by most enemies. And the ones you unlocked depended on the version of the game you had... I think. That part I only vaguely recall

I have a ton of nostalgia for this game, playing co-op with friends while they tear through everything with Broly. It was also my first PS2 game (or maybe it was Naruto: Uzumaki Chronicles), but that added to it being a nostalgic game to me

Lol saw the thumbnail and immediately knew it was sagas. Funny enough I absolutely loved the game as a kid. Played it nonstop, especially when I unlocked Broly. Tried it again as an adult and holy hell kid brains are weird cause this game is...well its a game.

As a kid, me and my brother would play this all the time. We didn’t have a memory card for our GameCube so every weekend we would speedrun to the end to unlock Broly and then play it again. It was easier for us to play the regular levels coop and then have one of us do the boss fights, it was prettt fun

I do have good memories of playing through the Future Trunks saga as a kid with a friend. It was cool as we both loved both Gohan and Trunks at the time and we used to geek out over which could win in an all out duel. We knew even back then that this game was frustrating but it was the only co-op Dragon Ball game up till that point. So if we wanted to play Dragon Ball together, this was it.

I never played this, but even though it's clearly bad, I can see some sort of a charm in the game. I can imagine how it would be nostalgic.

I remember this game fondly. I remember getting a PS2 for Christmas with Budokai 1 and Sagas. I remember finding the game frustrating, but thinking I was just bad at it. That being said, I think back fondly on the adventure elements. But how did I never notice that there were only two tracks??!!

I played this game when I was in Elementary School. I didn't know much about the storyline, but I thought it was so cool I could play with my friend. I do remember the Cell fight being one of the most difficult parts of the game for me.

I played this in middle school with one of my friends. We got through the Frieza fight where you have to wait for Piccolo by falling out of the map.

I still remember this game as one of the only remaining sources which acknowledge the fact that Future Gohan actually loses an entire arm other than the actual anime. So glad that Kakarot fixed the nightmare that was Future Gohan with his limp noodle arm.

This is a good example of how much a game can be carried with even the barest inclusion of local multiplayer. I only remember the good times of playing with my cousins and playing so much to unlock everything and replaying levels with different characters. When kids can share something with a friend, the quality matters a good bit less and those kids will remember it fondly because of the company they shared. At least that's the case for me and my memories of this game.

I played this game with my brother and we were having a blast together. We got up to the Frieza fight but Frieza glitched out and never actually spawned in. So we just ran around the battlefield for like 30 minutes waiting for something to happen. We finally decided to cut our losses and reboot the game but it turns out our save corrupted so we were going to have to start from the beginning. We never played the game again after that.

I adored this game as a kid. My cousin had all of the Budokai games, but I was terrible at those, so I tried to get him into this game, but he was woefully underwhelmed. I do remember him laughing uncontrollably at how Bardock says his own name in the most ridiculously nasal way, and how you can kill Frieza in about 5 hits as Broly. On a less fun note, I also remember that I got so obsessed with beating Vegeta when I first got the game, I turned off my mother's alarm and she was 2 hours late for work as a result. She wasn't happy.

I loved playing sagas as a kid. My favorite games were story driven platform adventure games; especially when they were based on movies like Spider-Man or that hulk game that wasn’t based on the movie. The only thing I didn’t like was that the beams each character blasted never clashed and struggled against each other

I hated this game but it was one of the first games I owned for Gamecube, so I ended up playing it a lot with my younger brother but it frustrated the hell out of me and my younger self destroyed my original Gamecube controller getting pissed off at this game. I do still have nostalgia more from the time I spent with my brother playing it, less because I actually liked the game.

I saved up my own money to get this at launch. It was so bad that the only nostalgia I get for it is when I’m reminded of the enthusiasm my friends had when rejecting offers to play it with me.

I was so pumped to play this game as a kid. I was expecting it to be a massively epic 3D version of Legacy of Goku it was gonna be perfect. I got my brother to co-op with me, and we were so surprised how plain and short it was. It wasn't a bad experience, just super underwhelming.

I remember when I was a kid I had Budokai 1 & 2 for the GameCube, there were multiple times where I saw this at GameStop and considered getting it but never did. As I got older I realized I dodged a bullet.

I would have to say my enjoyment of this game, even today is from nostalgia alone. My cousin and I were Dragon Ball fans growing up, and we would often play the budokai series. As a child being able to team up with my cousin, instead of beating each other and playing ping pong with ki blasts, was a nice time.

I remember somehow grabbing Vegeta right as he unleashed an energy shot permanently attacking him to one of Goku's hands like a spikey haired sword. XD I thought it let you configure/remap the button layout? Anyway your complaint doesn't apply because I had no problem playing it.

I remember playing this as a kid on the gamecube. I got it borrowed from a friend and I even played on the PS2 in my cousin's house. Does anybody knows if the south american market was so small back in the day that just didn't count? Or maybe it was counted as the same as North America for some reason?
@blugetsbusy45082 жыл бұрын
I’ll never forget being like 8 years old. My cousin bought it, and we played it when I went over…we didn’t even make it past raditz and I just paused the game and politely asked him “why didn’t you just get Budokai?”…he said idk..I gladly gave him back the controller. That’s how ass the game was back then and it’s still ass now baby.

PS2 is more of local multiplayer oriented game console compared to the current ones, so back in the day if there was a game that can make me and my brother play together at the same time instead of fighting to decide who gets to play is really a blessing and that includes this dragon ball game. I actually remembered that i had a great time playing it, it actually is the game that made me understand the power levels of the villains such as raditz with 1200, nappa 4000, vegeta 18000, captain ginyu 120000, so it really had a special place in myself

I remember getting this game with my cousin on a roadtrip home from mexico (we stopped in texas to visit family before going back to illinois) We were so excited to play it and I can honestly say we enjoyed it for the most part. I even replayed it a few times in high school still having some nostalgia for it before putting it down. I definitely remember having a lot of issues or desires with the game but not having a playstation growing up I didn't play the "good" dbz games and just accepted it as (games are still not quite there yet) and go back to playing Halo lol

I had it as a teenager. It was never my first choice of DBZ game. I only played it when I got sick of Budokai 2 and 3, but I remember unlocking Broly and using him everywhere the game would let me after that point.

I knew this game was terrible as a kid but flattening almost any opponent in the game with one strike from Broly will always be nostalgic. This game was my introduction to dragon ball when I was about 3 years old or so, crazy where interests come from

This game is my first ever intro to dragon ball, and it changed my life. The first time I heard the Kamehameha, mind = 💥. I had zero complaints about the game, loved the cut scenes but I was young and didn't know. But I still look back with found memories.

As a kid I loved this game. Me and my brother completed it maybe 10x over the summer. It's not great looking back on it. One thing I would want to point out is the gripe about them adding an original boss that you complained about. People really play games and want it to stay true to what they already know? New content is usually a plus

I remember renting it, and I remember not being able to have a long sitting playing this one without getting stuck worst part is when I played a bad game I always thought I was the one who was playing it wrong so I keep giving the game a chance, but never found it any better

I liked the game since when I played when I was a kid some of my family play the game with me and we had our fun The only bad part that I REALLY disliked was the gimmick about needing to transform to hurt the bosses, it really make the fights way longer
