The Carolina Hurricanes 2023 Stadium Series jersey leaked... again! So I sat down with the guy who has two different versions of the sweater-before it’s ever been officially released.
In this episode, I’m joined by ‪@lbjerseys‬ to break down the minor changes made from the version that leaked in 2021 to the one the team will finally wear outdoors in 2023.

The strict 2-colour jersey trend for Stadium Series feels like a massive limitation to creative jersey designs. Kind of gives me a modern All-Star jersey vibe.

I don’t know how strict it is but teams do seem to be enjoying the experimentation with tonal jerseys.

I think it’s cool it gives it a very modern look which is what stadium series jerseys should be

@@stormyguy Should have said colour instead of tone - feels like since Pens v Flyers in 2019, teams have committed to predominantly 2 colours in logo and jersey. TBL and NSH last year, even LA and COL before that. WSH jersey is rumours to be predominantly white and blue - just feels like a weird limitation to me. I agree that tonal jersey add a modern look and thats what Stadium Series jerseys should be.

I like the simplicity of the jersey itself, but I kind of wish they would have been a bit more adventurous with the front of the jersey. I love how creative some of the other SS game jerseys have been. Seems like an opportunity for teams to go kind of wild with their kits.

I think they could have done better. It’s not bad but could have experimented with a new logo or jersey layout. Like Nashville and Tampa did. If they added a red storm flag bottom to it then I would have liked it better and would be in favour of that being an alt going forward

The pattered stripes have been done....it's already old and tired. I But, I don't mind it as far as monochromatic sweaters are concerned. I've always enjoyed skewed fonts on non-traditional hockey sweaters. Hopefully the Caps unveil something unique to them and we don't have 2019 Pens and Flyers all over again.

I like the side by side photo of the Aeroready and Primegreen. The Aeroready has a darker logo. Other than that, they look the same.

Well like Matt pointed out, the crests are indeed the same color, just use materials which reflect light differently at certain angles.

@@icethetics True. Which do you prefer? And I'm ready for the All Star jerseys. I think we're getting a Reverse Retro of the beautiful jumbo star jerseys from 1994 - 1997.

The longer the design has been out the more I've come to respect it and I honestly am going to buy one, but it'd honestly be something if they pulled a "gotcha" on all of us and dropped something completely different. I doubt it'll happen but that honestly is something Dundon and the crew would do!

I would honestly not be surprised if that does happen. You are 100% right that this ownership & marketing department has a history of that, and they have been so leakproof in the past, it would make sense if they made the old jersey on the new template to throw us off, and have something different cooked up. that being said we do know that they are using that same logo, so it could be as simple as the one we are seeing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I can tell the difference In size and fit between primegreen and areoready. They fit smaller . The reverse retro 2.0 is even smaller fit . I noticed the reverse retro ones where made way back in may and June

I noticed that too, Steven! I thought maybe I had just ordered the wrong size at first. But it was just a smaller fit. I don’t know that it was related to PrimeGreen vs Aeroready, though because my other Kraken jersey was also PrimeGreen.

I continue to be disappointed by this design. I was once so excited to see the stadium series design and thought it was going to be a day 1 purchase. Like with the RR 2.0 though, I might grab one for $50 when they go on sale next year if they still have my size. If not, I won't lose sleep over it. Such a disappointment. At least the anniversary jerseys look great.

My Theory is that the Caps will have the same thing as the canes, but the base as white with navy blue and/or red stripes. Or they'll do the same thing or similar to there Other stadium series but with white as a base and replacing the logo, and the white shoulders and red striping with Navy blue.

With the customizers already sewing the Canes logo upside down accidentally (Seth Jarvis in Dec 21 game), this one will definitely be more easily screwed up! Haha.

No they did it upside down intentionally for that game. They did it for some upper deck thing so they could later cut up the jersey

Nope. That’s just a story someone made up. 😅 The Hurricanes themselves confirmed that particular jersey just had a factory error that no one caught right away. It was not intentional.

I dunno how their fans feel about it, but for me the 'Canes are one NHL team I think could use a complete rebrand. They've always had fake team from a movie vibes, and not like the team the movies about, but like a team that team beats in a montage while they work their way back into contention. I kinda feel like if they'd never won a cup we'd have already seen something fresh.

I think they're going with a soft rebrand. Going with the Double-Flags logo on their home kits and on the shoulders of their away and RR jerseys with them being incorporated on the "Canes" script logo. I think it's hard to abandon the traditional Hurricanes logo because it's so old and tied to team history. But, it's also the logo they used when they won the Cup in 06. But, a soft rebrand like what Ottawa did in the mid-00s seems to be what they're doing. Slowly phase out the primary logo and shift to the modern "fan favorite" full time. But, what's old is new again so it'll come back in vogue once the novelty of the Double-Flags wears off with their hurricane logo being mostly just used in promotional pieces and the odd throwback for a few years. Fans will demand the OG logo back.

@@Wexter0083 I think it's definitely the memory of that cup win that will keep that look afloat. As an Ottawa fan, I hated that slow rebrand so much. I remember when they put out the Black third jersey with the gold trim in '02, and it would've been so good with the 2D logo, but instead they doubled down on the ugly Senigoth.

@@alexanderfysh410 I know what you mean! I liked the original Senogoth as a kid, but when they rebranded full time to the 3D logo in 07 I had a pit in my stomach of "ohh... The old logo is completely gone...". Glad the team came to their senses and the old 2D look is back full time and looks sick on the RR 2.0. I wouldn't mind seeing the 3D logo back on the odd heritage classic or stadium jersey... Just never full-time ever again!

I think it depends on the team. I think for teams like Ottawa, Pittsburgh, Boston and Philly where Black is a core part of team identity it works. But for the Canes whose traditional colors are more Red, Black and Silver it feels limiting. I think going with a black jersey is just part of their soft rebrand to the Double-Flags look (black, red and grey). This jersey seems very inspired by that jersey as well which I think makes it feel more boring than it is. It is a very nice jersey on its own, but next to the current home feels more like an alternate kit.
