Fun fact: The black strongman who beats up Batman in this scene is actually inspired by/based off the Joker thug who beats up Commissioner Gordon in Batman: The Killing Joke before Gordon was kidnapped. What I love about Tim Burton and co's approach to this version of Batman is that the climax drags on a little longer with an additional action scene that takes an unconventional route of being both hard core and dark, and yet whimsical. The uniqueness and unconventionality of it all is all done to such an astounding effect. And that Danny Elfman tune is awesome!!!

I really don't get the hate some people have for this scene. The reason why Batman gets beat up in this scene is because he's wounded and bleeding. He literally just survived the Batwing crashing and exploding with him inside it, and he just spent the past ten minutes or so climbing nearly an endless feet of stairs. There's a reason we see blood on his face and walking all slowly. He's not in the proper condition to fight. At the end of the day he's only human, he's not perfect. Earlier in the movie when he took on the Joker's gang in the alley he owned them like a badass.
@BestInTheWorld3655 жыл бұрын
@Luke Grace the other guy explained it perfectly. He just survived a plane crash and walked up a tall flight of stairs. He has blood on his face, so he isn't at 100% percent.

Fang Gangsta Coyote I personally love this sort of stuff, like when Spider-Man is battle worn and he’s almost killed by the Green Goblin at the end.
@z-rex60685 жыл бұрын
Luke Grace Whilst that is true, Burton etc had to incorporate a proper final fight/ showdown scene as it’s part of the structure of all films. And since Joker’s not really up to Batman’s level of strength etc it wouldn’t be much of a challenge to Batman in a fight so giving him a proper challenge w the henchman in the final fight for Batman to overcome makes more sense from the writers’ point of view.
@fanggangstacoyote7125 жыл бұрын
@Luke Grace sure but it's also possible that some of his weapons could be damaged from the crash. Plus he didn't really have much time to react considering the bad guy took him by surprise and how close they are while fighting.

Such a cool scene. I love that Batman met a stronger opponent who exploited Bats' weakneses and gave him a proper beating. The sounds of the goon's grunting and his fists landing in Batman's abs and face are amazing as well as the close-ups of Batman's bloodied hopeless face. My favourite parts were the headlock slides and the punch-to-the-balls and kick-to-the-face combo. Total domination over Batman :)

Props to the only man in the Burtonverse who was able to shoot the fade with Batman. Quite successfully i might add. I like to think that Bats was so impressed with him and respected how hard he fought that he gave him a quick death.

The juxtaposition of a ball room waltz and Batman attacking joker’s goons is a perfect example of the film’s tone: loaded with dark humor
@joshua555510 ай бұрын
were those punches hurting Batman? because Joker punched Batman's body armor and almost broke his hand. I always assumed Batman was wounded and exhausted and just let this guy exhaust himself and it would make it much easier to take him down.
@jakebman907110 ай бұрын
Joker is not a physical threath at all in this movie. And he punched the batsuit where it's the strongest (bulletproof as you can see twice before). The big black goon was not only a stronger boxer but also smart. He started hitting Batman in the abs, but then changed the punching to the cowl and below the belt. Batman is probably less protected there so he felt those for sure

I haven’t seen this film in a long time, and 1:22 threw me off. It’s so smooth and seamless, but I always assumed the batsuit is very restrictive and doesn’t allow for much agility, but seeing him duck and dodge 4 times in a row really wowed me more than it should.

"Did you ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight" being one line that set up an interesting and well-done take on the batman narrative of his family's killer, the "reminder moment" and this scene with weakened batman after the crash taking some time to get to the joker whose dancing with girlfriend (total joker moment) was brilliant. I know there's matches malone and whatever and in "Gotham" the tv show I liked that narrative a lot as well. However, the handling of it was actually pretty weak in Batman Begins, even if "accurate to the comics" way more to me (and batman begins is honestly my favorite nolan batman film, even if all heath ledger joker moments are my favorite scenes from that series).

The big muscular black joker goon had to be at least 6’4 230+ pounds too. The way it was filmed was just silly honestly. If this was any other media of Batman, Batman would’ve ducked out of the way, before letting some random goon throw him around like a rag doll…The cartoonish dancing waltz music in the background made the fight seem goofy too.
