Del Bosque was like the senior accountant in a company who's been there since he left school. Quiet, unassuming, competent, and respected by everyone who worked with him. Boring? Perhaps? Reliable and exceptionable? Absolutely.

Nah Carlo's dismissal at Juve was justified. Won no silverware (Intertoto doesn't count), choked the league in the last match against Perugia in 2000 and choked it again the next year against Roma despite being 2-0 up in their last h2h encounter played at the Stadio Olimpico. Add onto this a CL group stage exit with embarassing losses to Panathinaikos and Hamburg, also including a 4-1 thrashing in the UEFA Cup at the hands of Celta de Vigo. His dismissal made sense then and it makes sense now.

Bobby Robson being sacked was the worst decision in Newcastles premier league History. The bloke came in when they were bottom. There teams confidence was shot to bits. He guided them away from relegation and led them to 3 European positions on very limited funds by the owners. The owners thinking they were again part of the elite began taking over. Signing players without Robsons consent and selling players like Gary Speed who Robson didn’t want to sell. They began making the decisions, the players became overpaid brats. Then they said the old man has done enough let’s get rid. But to rub salt in the wounds they signed f*king Graeme Souness. He fell out with every top star at Blackburn and they were battling relegation and had fought relegation the season before. Not only that. They give him more money than Robson received over 5 years in one season and he spent it on injury prone players or flops. He guided the magpies from 4th,3rd and 5th to 14th. There was no logic begging it what so ever.

A few others off the top of my head: Bobby Robson 2004. They were literally like a top 6 side and they sacked him for Sounness! Club went into freefall after him. I also think Sam Allardyce being sacked by Newcastle was harsh. I think this was where Mike Ashley lost control of Newcastle by listening to the fans. I actually rate Sam and was a very good defensive manager like Mourinho. The problems at Newcastle were just enormous and they got relegated under Shearer after. They were never going to be a top 4 side and having the man of glass, Owen, didnt help.

Football fans hate watching Allardyce’s football though. Fans shouldn’t have to pay to watch that shit. I think people assume football is all about results, but it isn’t. Look at Postecoglu, he can have shit runs of form and people forgive. Mourinho types; they can win trophy after trophy and people will still turn after 3 losses on the spin because he’s a depressing bellend. Allardyce makes football unenjoyable and doesn’t even win things so he can never complain about getting the sack, regardless of other issues.

Del Bosque getting sacked was and still is truly stupid from Perez. After winning La Liga in 2003 he got the boot for no reason and that started a horrible trend of Madrid going into mediocrity and disillusionment in the Champions League. Plus he sold key players like Hierro and Makelele to accommodate Beckham and Owen and the Galaticos went up in smoke. Just imagine if Del Bosque remained and Perez built a well balanced squad instead of buying shirt sellers like Beckham then Madrid would dominate Europe for many years to come including winning the treble along the way. Instead, Barcelona achieved that feat and not Madrid while Del Bosque dominated the world with Spain.

As a Leeds fan, the Bielsa sacking was criminal and heartbreaking. I knew it at the time. He dragged a midtable Championship team exiled from the PL for 16 years to a title challenge in the 1st year and promotion in the 2nd. Finished 9th in his first PL season. All the while playing the most outlandish, ambitious football in the country, his players running themselves to death every game, transforming journeymen into stars, getting 17 PL goals out of Patrick Bamford. And, in his 4th season, performing miracles with a tiny squad besieged by injuries, having 12 senior players for most games, keeping us out of the relegation zone and on course for survival. All the while still playing the same brand of entirely unique, and uniquely entertaining, football. Hitting the woodwork about 18 times, having a 21 year old GK who was a hologram (with the worsts shot stopping stats in the league) on top of everything else. And conducting himself like a Saint, uniquely loyal (would have never left for another job, he never has, except to manage Argentina), never once complaining about injuries or a refereeing decision or transfers or the state of his squad, taking all the responsibility on his own shoulders. Stabbed in the back with 12 games remaining, and the club briefing a mess of propaganda about him to the press (all of which has since been disproved, despite Bielsa never saying a word in response). Meanwhile, the owner was in the process of selling the club and bidding for another club as we were being relegated, and putting up our stadium as collateral. As for O'Leary. It's complicated. He failed to get in the CL 2-3 seasons in a row (it was only 3 places back then). Which is why we went bankrupt, basically. Ridsdale gambled on us getting into the CL. O'Leary also did stupid things like releasing an autobiography that pissed off some of the players.
@keithwellerlounge74

I love this. The media were always scoffing at Bielsa because Leeds conceded goals. Real football fans understand why Bielsa is so popular. He is a total antidote to the Puels, Mourinhos, Pulises, Allardyces, Moyeses, Rodgerses, etc. He actually likes football. I would love to have him at my club because it would make me actually want to see a game again. Football has become dire and soulless from a spectator point of view.
@heldinahtmlhell
@heldinahtmlhell 8 ай бұрын
Yeah, and it was even a myth that his teams conceded goals. We had the best defence in the Championship when we got promoted and the ~4th best in his first year. We had the best, or second best, defence in the PL in the last third of our first season, when we got our players fit, and Bielsa tweaked things by putting Dallas as an 8 to balance the midfield better. And even in our last season, we conceded a goal per game when Kalvin Phillips was fit. We only conceded goals against top sides when we had key players missing. Sorry, defending him is an addiction of mine lol. British pundits are atrocious. They're xenophobic and hate attacking, high risk football or playing out from the back. And they don't even watch games outside the top 6, so base their opinions on lower down teams on their games vs the top 6, which are unrepresentative. They legitimately spout crap about Bielsa such as "what has he won?", "I don't get it", "naive", blah blah blah. While lauding all the British dinosaurs like Moyes, Fat Sam, Hodgson, Warnock, Pulis etc, who have won almost nothing between them. Not even tinpot cups. @@keithwellerlounge74

A lot of credit that should go to Leicester’s title miracle should be Nigel Pearson managing to get Leicester from bottom of the table to 14th at the end of the season; winning 7 out of their last 9 games. That run of form, going into the next season, was the catalyst for their title win.

I’d give O’Leary a bit of credit. That Leeds team he had in the early 2000’s was one of the most loved teams in the league mostly because of how young the players were and everyone just assumed they’d all end up superstars. They really were that team that hoovered up all the young talent in the PL and championship so people really got behind them me included. Then O’Leary left and not long after all the players left and not long after that the majority of those players weren’t getting up to a whole lot 🤷‍♂️ only Ferdinand and Keane you could legit say lived up to their potential. You can go down the list and say Paul Robinson bang average, Ian Harte bang average, Danny Mills, mid table player, Woodgate may have become a great player if not for his injuries but still never lived up to his potential. Bowyer mid table player, McPhail championship player, Seth Johnson same, Kewell bang average but had injuries, Bakke bang average, Smith had injuries but he was destined to be a bench player for United. Even Viduka spent his late 20’s in a bang average Middlesbrough side and wasn’t setting the league on fire. So people need to look back and say O’Leary massively overachieved with that team and give him more credit.

Definitely, it goes down as a great era for Leeds, and a very harsh sacking. I used him and the other managers at the beginning as examples to show that you could see SOME logic behind their dismissal, whereas with del Bosque I can't. I for sure give him credit, in fact I might do a full vid about his time at Leeds.

@@flashbackfootball1367 for me as a teenager in the late 90’s/early 00’s you had Leeds and a couple of years earlier West Ham as the “what if? teams” because they had a bunch of young guys and then they lost them all very quickly. But at least in West Ham’s case you can argue that practically all of their young guys delivered away from West Ham. Cole and Lampard spent the majority of their careers at Chelsea, Carrick and Rio won a tonne of trophies at United, Defoe is a Spurs legend and Glen Johnson played for Chelsea and Liverpool. They all did better away from West Ham but for the most part, the guys who left Leeds in their early 20’s never really got better elsewhere.
