City should be ashamed what they have done to not only his career but a few other young promising players . I'm a city fan . There were never any intentions of him playing in the first team , at Fulham he had opportunities . He was brilliant for Celtic , saw him a few times when watching hearts , but I think that would've been the easy option for him . As big as Celtic are , 6 big games a year and European football for a few months doesn't develop him any further . Imagine the knock in confidence, from the high if joining city , to moving around on loan . Was there even any profit in buying and selling him ??! 🏴✌️

People scoff at the thought of Roberts back to Celtic not realizing that one U21s match he played for us before joining the first team squad was one of the shrewdest moves we could have done. If you look at him in terms of physique, he is probably a little more muscular than Bernard silva but similar stature. You watch Bernardo silva every game, and you see not only an outstandingly talented one but one with the hunger of a footballer who just broke into the first team on that day. He contributes in attack, assists, scores goals, but then there are times you see him chasing back into his own penalty area to nonchalantly win possession back etc. He plays on the right wing, and yet pops up in almost every position to hustle, harry and be the true epitome of a team player. It is all about mentality. In Pep's team, everyone bar Haaland puts in a shift every game. To be successful in today's game, there is simply no such luxuries as 'free roles'. We see that here in Milan with Leao. He literally gives the team almost nothing out of possession. And that in turn has him susceptible to criticism when he doesn't score/assist. To succeed in this modern game (actually win the top trophies), you need 10 outfield players that are like hounds chasing a rabbit. Otherwise you'll be left behind.
@DemonetisedZone20 күн бұрын
Pep's "special inhalers" probably help, dont forget Pep was banned for drug abuse (steroids) as a player, the doctor got suspended, Pep then became coach at La Masia years later and got same crooked doctor to prescribe Growth Hormones to a child (Messi) who was 2inch below average height

@handsolo120928 күн бұрын
No, he defied Pep, and that is what ruined him. He had been on loan to Celtic, came back and Pep wanted to send him on loan to a PL club (I think it was Southampton). He refused and said he wanted to go back to Celtic. Pep saw that as a weak mentality (Southampton in the PL is a much tougher place to go), so that finished him. Roberts is loved at Sunderland, I'm a season ticket holder. He needs the right manager it obvious. For the right manager he's a world beater. But don't be thinking for 1 second we don't love him & want him playing in our starting 11. He suffered with injuries last year. If you look at our form. Without him we dropped like a ton of hot snot.
@Demondoink111 күн бұрын
It’s not a broken loan system. It’s just that Robert’s wasn’t good enough, or mentally tough enough to earn a permanent contract after each loan. Diallo, who you mentioned in the video, is now getting games for Man U after his Sunderland loan. Malik Tillman, after being on loan at Rangers, ripped it up in the Eredivisie and won the league with PSV and got in to the CL knockouts. Just cos one player failed after several loans doesn’t mean the loan system isn’t effective. He just clearly lacks mental toughness and doesn’t have a good enough work rate.
@xdvanced712028 күн бұрын
As much as he didn't live up to the "English Messi" hype... He's adored at Sunderland, he hasn't particularly got the goal output we'd like but he scored one of the most important goals in our recent history and is a great player to watch, everybody here loves him. Also I disagree that his future is up in the air currently. The only way I can see him leaving is if a better culb comes in for him with a lot of money and he wants to leave... Any manager with a brain knows he is our best right winger and should be starting every match he's fit

Excellent video. The first conclusion I draw is that young professional players should play each game as if it is the last game they will ever play. It is easy to drift into bad habits, gain an injury or allow doubts to grow in a manager's mind. The second conclusion is how too many loan deals can permanently damage a player's career. I would say two years max. The player had great speed and skill. However some of the shots of him playing in Scotland and in the Championship/Division 1 show him being given an amount of space that he wouldn't receive in the EPL. Sounds like he also gave his opponents a lot of space to play in too. Perhaps only a doctor giving Roberts a medical could answer this. Did playing so much as a youngster against bigger and heavier players give him longer term injury problems? The media often measure players by how young they were when first training with or playing for the first team. Often it is better for a player to build up his strength first.
