What exactly does klipper firmware mean ? Sorry I'm a mid level into this printing just bought me one of these bad boys and it coming in tomorrow
@802Garage
@802Garage 11 ай бұрын
@@PRFcory Most printers for several years were running Marlin firmware. It was installed on the 3D printer's board and would process the G-code to run the printer and create the print. It is lightweight and can run on very low spec processors with little memory usage. Klipper is a more recent firmware development which requires more processing power, but is more powerful. It can be run on a device separate from the printer and send all the processed commands to the printer or it can all be integrated into a single printer package. Think of it sort of like a flip phone vs a smart phone. Both can make calls, but one can do all sorts of other fancy stuff too, it just takes a lot more power. So Klipper can track a lot more info mid print, can alter plans on the fly like canceling a single item to be printed, and it can perform more advanced printing calculations. That last part is important because it enable pressure advance which is what most people rave about. Basically because Klipper software can take advantage of data like machine resonance and very precise flow rates, it can send commands which will generate a higher quality print much faster. It's not that Marlin can't send the same commands really, but more so that the advanced calculations require so many commands that the more basic hardware will generally get overloaded. Klipper also has lots of features and add ons to enable actions like WiFi printing, print queues, camera monitoring, and more. In the case of the Adventurer 5M printers, they have a version of Klipper built in, but it was a customized and locked version by Flashforge. By allowing base Klipper to be installed, it opens the printers to use all the other add on software and mods available to the public and for open source bug fixing.
@Rcschim

@@PRFcory 802Garage already answered it perfectly ;) in short: your FF5 already has klipper on it - but locked. Good thing is, we dont need the open klipper since the stock installation runs very reliable - and with the latest beta of orca slicer I also got the feature of WIFI printing (which until now meant I would need the open klipper). (see the seperate video I did 2 days ago if you need that feature).

I love using this printer. It is so painless. Most all nozzle clogs are a result of filament not being changed out properly. When I realized that a proper change was a problem, I haven't had one since. One foot if filament to save me from a headache is great! Flashforge has great after sales support. Their Dev team does listen to the end user.

Yes! It’s my most reliable one. That being said, yesterday I had my nozzle clogged ;) changed from petg on the 0.4 back to pla. Didn’t work, skipping gears sound from the extruded. In the end I swapped in the 0.6 nozzle. Now I need to see if I get the last few bits of petg out of the nozzle, or else by another 0.4 nozzle to exclusively have one for petg? That’s their recommended way…. The other day I had filament stuck in my k1 extruded gears, because I didn’t have enough patience on filament changes. But I found a great video… Greets, Mario

I really like that it stopped when it scraped the bed. And I really respect that you took responsibility for not clicking in the nozzle instead of blaming the printer. While I was watching the video, I knew immediately that was going to happen before it did because it appeared that you didn’t re-level the bed to calibrate after Nozzles. I also worried that the left and right tabs on the reality build plate would make it not slide into place as level as the flash plate but it seems that wasn’t a problem.

Yes, the longer I use this printer (and I do so because it works really well), the more I like the filament changes. On other printers I do some additional extrusion after filament change anyways... The only downside I saw so far here: on my 0.4mm nozzle, I had PETG and wanted to change to PLA - and this nozzle clogged so bad, I couldnt get it free. So now I just use the 0.6mm nozzle ;) They suggest to use a seperate nozzle for different materials...

A very capable printer and very insightful review. Like that it has quick change hot-end. Bad luck that it failed on first layer, but now we know to double-check. That it's using Klipper firmware is also a real plus. Klipper has become dominate in 2023. I hate cloud service models, and prefer to have devices be fully functional on local network. Nice call-out to "Aurora Tech", they are amazing with reviews and provide great insights/tips. I found your projects of making a mount for a printer camera, and for your filming setup most interesting. These appear to be great solutions that really improve your workshop experience. If you consider On-Shape video(s), I'd suggest building on "Teaching Tech" series/playlist. A basics focused for your audience could be good, or showing how you tacked a personal project would be interesting.

I bought two of these printers and they work flawlessly. My bed adhesion issues were mainly due to temperature. PLA requires 60c temp on the bed and 220-226c for the extruder. No more issues. Use the checkbox on the printer to Bed Level during the print. Yes it slows the process but your printer will know what the bumpy PEI coating looks like after removing and reinstalling a spring steel bed that has a randomly sprayed bed coating.

This is currently selling for £450 in the UK and with a coupon can be had for £426 with free shipping. Seems like a bargain for what you're getting. I would be really interested to see the progress of the remote printing which I've seen you have already made a video on. The only question I had was do you still need level the bed before each print and is the gcode functioning in orca?
@Rcschim
@Rcschim 10 ай бұрын
It's still my fav printer (among 4 others) and hopefully they will officially support the wifi printing soon. that's the only downside compared to creality printers (where the open klipper works flawless), but on the other hand, most times if I print something I would need to go there anyways to insert the right filament etc. bed levelling isn't neccesary often. if you want to do it before print, you can just "upload" instead of "upload and print" - then you have the gcode over there and when manually starting the print you can check the levelling box. Or you add the Gcode for bedlevelling in the orca settings of the printer (I think I did this for another printer). Oh: one other downside I found so far: if using PETG on a nozzle, swapping filament to PLA or TPU back can be a problem (clogging). They actually suggest, you stick with PETG on this nozzle, and use a different one for other material type. This is easy since their hot swap nozzle is really great, but also ~ 35€ (you get 2 nozzles with the printer).
