I am the type of person who wants and needs a plug and play 3D printer. I primarily use the 3D printers to make components for the products I make and sell. I first bought 3 Adventurer 3 Pro machines in August 2022 and when the ADV5M Pro became available, I bought one and when I saw how great it was for my use, I bought another one. The 5M Pro makes production of making the components twice as fast as the Adventurer 3Pro machines. In fact, in the future, I plan to replace at least 2 of the Adventurer 3 Pro machines with the Adventurer 5M Pro machines. I have only used Flashforge printers. I am very happy with not tinkering if I don't have to. I am also glad I don't need to build my own 3D printers.

I have been 3d printing for 12 years my Third printer purchased was a Creator Pro which I still use. I checked and compared the Bambu, Creality and the Qidi. I watched this video and then a few others and with my Creator Pro being reliable for the last 8 years decided on the 5M Pro. I have been test printing different filament types since I received my 5M Pro and the quality and speed of the printing is great. I have switched between using Orca and Flashprint to compare and although Orca has more features I have found that setting up my own slicing profiles for each material in Flashprint has gotten faster and better prints. If you load an Orca print from the USB you can still connect with FlashPrint and view the camera. I have had no issues with the build plate the only thing I changed was the PLA bed temp to 60C. I also am amazed at how fast I am able to print TPU. I am printing 3x faster than my other machines and getting great prints. I can not be happier so far with this printer so I decided to come back and comment on your video.

Mine just arrived yesterday, The reason I went with Flashforge is because of customer service and parts availability in my area (they ship directly to my area unlike many other brands). Also, I can still get official parts for my 9 year old Creator X so long term parts support is a plus for me (in exchange for noticeably less community mods/support/third party parts so it's a tradeoff). That said, I do have a Bambu Lab X1C which I love. But most of my older Creator Xs and Creator Pros will be replaced with 5M Pros. The Flashforge formula (their slicer history included) has always been "get up and go and keep going till something wears out/breaks" at the cost of features and customizability. My Creator Pros are now dated and have been a little basic even when they were new but I haven't needed to relevel it in 5 years considering it prints almost 24 hours 5 days a week 12 months a year.

I upgraded to the Flashforge Adventurer 5M Pro, coming from a pretty old DIY (Prusa i3-style) printer. I love how my Flashforge printer just works, without me having to check all the settings every time and manually checking if the first layer is printed correctly. I just hit print from FlashPrint, and it works. Sure, the nozzles are not cheap, but they are not expensive either.

My wife is exactly who this printer is made for. She wants an appliance that prints what she wants then sits quietly on a table until its needed again. She has a Flashforge Finder I bought her in 2018 that she uses 2-3 times a month, sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less. I leveled the bed once back on Christmas day in 2018 and I've never touched it since. No heated bed, no ABL, a minimalist slicer, and nothing else except what Flashforge decided she needed. It's exactly what she wanted in a printer and works perfect for her needs.

Awesome review. Regarding the "closedness" of the printer: I loved my Ender 3 S1 Pro and the SonicPad thanks to your videos. I always love to play around with stuff, setup my home automation and all these things. I got fed up with prjnts being messed up and after my Ender 3 decided to not print a first layer after being shut down for 6 hours, I was bothered. Tried everything and in the end I gifted myself the Bambu X1C. Yes, spare parts are more expensive. But they are available. Every single piece. Need a ribboncable for your bed? It's available. Need a stepper motor? No Problem. How about a replacement cover for the hotend? Sure. I had bent leadscrews on my Ender 3 S1 Pro. How can I get replacements? I can't. They are not Standard Ender 3. I would have to cut them myself. How? That's my Problem. "Closed system" is a mixed bag. I would love my printer "offline at home" but then I lose app access. But the webcam feed is sometimes bad because the cloud is slow. So yeah... No real opinion on that right now. But the hardware and the machine just freaking work. No messed up first layer. Just print and go. And this to me is bliss because I need to move the printer to the basement (third floor appartment) due to space requirements. So it MUST be reliable and remote controlled. And my Ender with a Sonicpad was not thst trustworthy for me.

I'm honestly shocked by how good this printer is for it's price point. I picked it up to compliment my P1S and I'd say it's on par with it. I mostly make functional non-cosmetic prints (optical component testing set-ups, brackets, storage options, etc.) and it has been wonderful for this purpose as I don't really need a larger volume size for the types of things I print.. I tried a K1C but didn't really enjoy the experience so returned it and picked this up.

As someone with a couple Enders on a Sonic Pad (with help from you!) and now a Bambu P1S owner I agree with your sentiments on these new machines. I'm loving the P1S and it is cranking out great prints right out of the box, but there are some basic QOL stuff it just doesn't have (yet anyway) due to it's locked down software. Want to reprint a file you previously printed? You gotta walk up to the printer and do that from the tiny screen. There is no going the file list in the Machine tab in Orca and telling it to reprint remotely. Also macros would be awesome. My Enders are using KAMP which is so much better than having to probe the entire bed every print. It really is the little things.

As for not being able to tinker with the firmware.. i have never felt the urge of tinkering with the firmware of my 2D printer either.. 😆 thinking of the 3D printer as a CNC machine.. i dare to pose the question, Can you modify the firmware of any CNC machine except 3D printers?.. NO.. on some machines you can write your own Macro's, even to such an extent that you can basically write your own programming language.. for me, that is important because i don't want to depend solely on CAM software (like a slicer is for a 3D printer), I want to be able to just key in some code, and get a part AT the machine, instead of needing a 2D or 3D Computer drawing to generate the code.. But that is because of the way i learnt to use these CNC machines.. For Complex parts, a CNC Mill is just like a 3D printer in reverse, you start out with a hunk of material, and cut away what you don't need, and programming that with CAM software is almost as easy as running a 3D File through a slicer, But sometimes, you need a simple part, of which there is no drawing.. you decide how to make it, and program the operations as needed to the dimensions you just measured with Calipers.. a 3D printer must just be that for me, a "Printer" i.e Open a file in the slicer, like the preview and printer properties for a 2D print, just set everything, apply and print.. Wether that is over the Network, or walking over with a USB stick doesn't matter for me.. You will have to check if there's the right filament in there, and enough to print your part anyway.. for me it is just like any other CNC machine..
@peterle987 Жыл бұрын
As a Sonic Pad user with all its possibilities, I totally agree with your negative. I don't want to be limited by the manufacturer and not being able to use my slicer, which I am familiar with, leads me to the same decision as your title says. A great printer I WONT buy - thank you!

Beginner here - regarding the filtration, do people usually put their printers in a shed or garage while it's printing? I assume that it's bad to have a 3d printer printing in a closed space around people?

I noticed you made this video some 8 months ago, but I only watched just now. Do you know whether Flashforge have opened up their firmware in the meantime?

Can you wipe the flashforge firmware and install vanilla Klipper on the flashforge or is the hardware too proprietary for that?
@RickyImpey10 ай бұрын
Apparently you can now but I haven't looked into it yet.

Unlocked Klipper mod is now in beta phase for this machine. You might want to take a new look at it.

hi , after over 1 year of successful printing, my flashforge 5M Pro is stuck on the initiation screen (just says flashforge on the screen) without the little beeping tune or progressing to the menu. Do you know what could cause this? Firmware corruption? Hardware broken? I have dowloaded the firmware zip file but I dont know how to open it to the USB and place the correct files in the root of the USB.

The lack of customization and lock down of firmware means it's an absolute NO for me. Great review.

Strictly speaking in terms of quality/speed, how do you find the 5M Pro holds up against the P1S? I agree with all of your points - I'd really like to have the freedom - But the price point for the 5M (not the Pro) is what appeals at the moment. Moving up from an Ender 3 S1 Pro. I would also like to use OctoPrint with the 5M. Is this possible? I know version 2.0 now supports Klipper. Love all of your videos - You have been my 3D printing master for a while now!!

Wait how are they closed source and using klipper firmware? Is this not a clear violation of the GPL licence?
@jazb431721 күн бұрын
They made firmware not be able to be changed to non official versions. They can make changes to klipper, publish them, but that still doesn't mean the hardware can accept any unsigned firmware.

Have you tried printing it at max speed 600mm/s , did you find it effected the quality of the print significantly or it still functioned well doing so? Thank you

It seems they don’t trust their market to be able to make changes 🤷🏻♂️ I just invested in a Qidi xmax3….ive had it 3 weeks now and Qidi now have me, I’ll be getting a 2nd one in the future. Fast reliable prints, great customer support, and a non toxic FB community. Great informative vid as always mate 👍🏻

Interesting that you love the X-max 3, I have the X-Plus 3 now. I like Qidi's approach to klipper, even if the hardware is possibly not so polished.

@@RickyImpey I get that last comment, mine was delivered with the early version hotend shroud and bl touch, so I emailed them and they sent me the revised hotend shroud (it has 2 small fans in there) and an inductive probe with magnetic sheet. But I’m going to keep the BL on as I’m reading on the qidi groups that the inductive is not so great. But it prints Asa awesome with ease, thanks to the chamber heater.

I started with a quidi and it wiped all my files from the official usb stick and made it read only randomly. Saw an Amazon review that mentioned exact scenario but dismissed it as a fluke. Flashforge has better software but 0.4 nozzle broke in a day and their support has refused to respond to order status request on order I placed two weeks ago for nozzles.

I got a question, I'm planning on buying my very first 3d printer and I'm going for an fdm type like this. Does these enclosed printers usable in a basement and not worry about the smell and fumes? Or do I have to vent it out?

Just some PLA being pushed through a nozzle that was too hot for PLA. My fault, I selected the wrong material. No damage done, just didn't need to be that hot.
