I joined in with the whole flat earth debunking thing for several years, learning a lot of science along the way. I came to the conclusion that they weren’t worth my time, they were still making the same arguments despite all the evidence, and that they were having no impact on the real world around them. I feel sorry for the people who allow themselves to be taken in by the obvious charlatans, but unless they want to actually educate themselves, there is nothing I can do. Wolfie is one of the only debunkers who I haven’t unsubscribed from, due in large part to the way he has consistently used his own knowledge and experience to debunk their nonsense. The best reason to keep going is to not let them think they have somehow won, but I just don’t have the stamina.

You don’t need that many of them to have a sane outcome. Flat-Earthers only became what they are because they lack many such protective factors. You have to have a cluster like dyscalculia, bad epistemology, distrust of authority (interestingly not their own), grandiose delusions and ostracism (whether as a cause or effect) to end up there. This is also why you can’t ‘fix’ them by tackling this one problem, the way you might convince someone on the edge.

From the equator the sun should indeed follow a trajectory of 90° east through the zenith and 90° west on the equinoxes, as borne out by the sun and moon website which predicts the position of both celestial bodies at every minute of every day throughout the year for dozens of locations. With all those predictions based on fairly simple 3d geometry and a globe model it should be easy for a flat earther to show the predictions are wrong.

We have the southern equivalent of what happens in the northern hemisphere and to them the sun would pass directly over the Tropic of Cancer in their summer and our Tropic of Capricorn in mid winter in the northern hemisphere and our winter. The original video he used to "prove" that the Earth is flat comes from a user called "FlightInsight". I even exchanged some comments with Taboo Conspiracy regarding a conversation I had with FlightInsight. As per usual Taboo claimed that FlightInsight's response was "non-sense".

Nice work Wolfie. Looking at your HUD, it looks like the horizon drop is about 2.5°. That tells me you are about 6.25 km or 20,500 feet above the distant clouds. So 38,500 - 20,500 means the distant clouds are at 18,000 feet (roughly). Does that seem about right? BTW, I have to admit that debunking FE stuff has been educational and fun, so it's a bit disappointing that it's tapered off. I blame that on the political season, especially in the US, as being relatively quiet, so less disinformation-pumping coming from national actors. So now we're left with boring causes like climate change, homelessness, helping immigrants, etc.

Excellent example, Wolfie! It would be interesting to flip the scenario; be flying at 37000 feet and observe an aircraft ahead of you flying at 38000 feet. However, have the distance between the two being great enough that the other aircraft would still be seen below the level flight indicator, due to its altitude being relative to ground level that has curved away, downward. It's the same as seen on extremely long bridges, where two support towers have greater distance between their tops than at their bases due to Earth curvature and each having their own local vertical.

In fact the angle between horizontal and horizon is as predicted for the globe. Flight plans are calculated for the globe. GPS is entirely based upon the Earth being a rotating globe. All you have is word salad, and no amount of blue cheese dressing is going to fix that.

I used to be in aircraft maintenance in the Air Force about a decade ago and worked mostly on C130s. There were lots of pilots around the squadron and we would occasionally get the opportunity to go up and fly with them. I had always heard that when you see another plane and it is above the horizon that that airplane is higher than you and consequently if you see another plane below the horizon that that plane would be at a lower altitude than you. I'm not really tracking at all what you're saying in this video.

Flying easterly is odd thousands +500ft Westerly is even thousands +500ft Also we will generally fly area QNH and at FL altitude we fly ISA, so everyone in the area will fly within the same safe altitudes. Rob is Wolfie. He says when he went to the aircraft familiarization put on by Bombardier they showed him he needed to "snap" the hud into place (Probably so it doesn't get stopped short of its fully-deployed position). The company engineer wants the HUD moved gently into position so you don't risk breaking several thousand $$ equipment and putting the plane out of service until fixed. Thus the note. Seems to show a pretty fun corporate culture if they can run with those kinds of jokes.
