Nice! These buses really do sound like the old ZF ecomat stagecoach ALX400's that we used to have in London. Awesome throwback!

That thing is a beast, I had no idea that any operator in the UK had E500s, these sound a lot like the late ALX400 tridents

Cracking sound indeed!

Great ride my friend. More of these should have been built and perhaps some dual door ones for the busy routes of London instead of the NRM's in my opinion and ADL make some nice buses and are better than anything MCV makes :). All the best and keep up the great videos pal.

wow, I will hopefully be out on these when I get back. Doubt I will get a driver like this though.

Indeed, very lucky this turned up. Was expecting to end up with a E300. Which i didn't want as i had already filmed two out this way

God damm how loud that radiator is. Even louder than the same model in HK. And we missed the Kickdown of these Ecomat 4 Enviro 500s so much because only a couple Euro 4 Enviro 500s left the kickdown on while the otherelse had removed and installed a stupid TopoDyn program on it.

It wasn't actually too bad, if i'm being honest i didn't even notice the fan was "roaring" until i watched this video back. When we got to the terminus of the route though if you stood near the engine you could feel the heat coming off of it. All 25 of our E500's (New in 2009) are fitted with kickdown, although on a few it no longer functions. As these were built post 2006 they have TopoDyn also. The physical switch on the pedal acts more as a forced override. Personally speaking sister vehicle 38210 is better. She has a pretty musical gearbox for a Euro 4 Enviro500, not to mention it's a joy riding on her while roaring up some hills! kzbin.info/www/bejne/nafFYoOoqauEi7c

Just watched this video again and I am really loving the sounds. I am seriously thinking about preserving one of these buses and I will bring it to Northern Ireland. Would you know roughly how long that these buses are to remain in service with First? I know in Hong Kong, those operators keep their buses active for 18 years. So I was wondering if its the same for First? I would appreciate any information on this.

I'm considering looking in to preserving one when they're done too. There's no confirmed date for how long we'll keep them other than the fact that they still have another good 5-10 years of service with First. So plenty of time. First typically replace their vehicles when they get to around 15-17 years old, however some types (such as B10BLEs) are still in use despite the fact that all of them are now 18+ years old and one of the ones recently withdrawn had just turned 22! The E500s should have quite a while though as they'll be due to head for LEZ conversion soon (Aberdeen is bringing in a LEZ zone at the end of 2022).

@@ABZBuses That's grand to know and at least we both have enough time to plan ahead and save up for when the time comes for these buses to retire. I would assume that these buses will have EGT (Exhaust re-Generation Traps) added to upgrade them to Euro 6 spec. That will be two in preservation as I hope that you too can save one of these beasts from the torch because these buses are very unique outside of Hong Kong. I have plans to bring a 2002 ex-NWFB/Citybus HK Dennis Trident Alexander ALX500 bus to NI for preservation but I do not think I will be able to pull it off in time before they get scrapped by the end of the year. Some KMB ones though are staying until 2021. I will let you know how I get on with this project anyway mate. All the best

No idea why but it sounds really strange comparing to a same model in HK. I can't really hear the ZF shifting sound comparing to this kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6vcen6Mhbuca9E ah btw it should be ISL instead of ISM, and on 1:20 it sounded quite like a LT10 Engine lol

It might be because this video is filmed from the rear whereas the video you've linked is filmed from the middle. Quite a number of the E500s here have louder ZF Ecomats however even then if you sit at the very back the engine noise very much drowns them out. It could also be because one of the hopper windows was open so there was more external noise being picked up? Edit: The change from 2nd to 3rd was picked up quite well at 1:40 38210 for comparison has a louder Ecomat, here's a video filmed mostly near the middle of the vehicle - kzbin.info/www/bejne/nafFYoOoqauEi7c Indeed these have the ISL, i'm not sure why i put ISM. Description amended!
