Great fix!! I was looking at $40 to print those parts and didn't really want to invest that into the Nano Talon, so thanks so much for this!

You Newton-ed the hell out of that bird mod! Brilliant as usual Andrew. Love it. Now I know how to mod my Nano Talon!

Good idea to ditch the dihedral. My simple mod was to rip out all of the spare box bits except the fuselage plates. I then sliced out the top of the outboard wing spar boxes and epoxied a carbon tube into the trough. The aileron end was done pretty much as you describe. I find the rudder function pretty much useless as it flies best as a plank using the short coupled elevator more as trim.

Now that's an interesting mod my friend I look forward to getting down and handing you the reins to my talon This should be an interesting experiment and maybe we can also fly together which should really show the difference Good job again buddy 🖖

Yes we will do that. Just need less weather

Thanks for the great video Andrew. I'm new to RC planes. A guy from the local club here in Bakersfield, California gave me a Nano Talon & I've had nothing but trouble with it. I seems to like hitting it's nose on the Earth at every launch. :-(
@AndrewNewton6 жыл бұрын
Hmm, it shouldn't do that. Are you using the stabiliser? Elevator moving in the right direction?
@farminglifeaustralia67166 жыл бұрын
We experimented with dihedral, sweep, and all the so called inbuilt stability stuff 30 years ago in full size aircraft and found that although they all work to a degree, if you are trying to build an aircraft with neutral stability which in my opinion is the way to go they are not a good idea in the case of dihedral and sweep they are constantly correcting so flight while overall is somewhat stable the air craft is going through the air like a dog sniffing from side to side while rolling its head. The other thing is that lift acts at 90 Degrees to the airfoil and weight is always straight down so in the case of dihedral the more you build into an air craft the more you decrease lift because lift is not acting directly opposite to weight. If you asked most aircraft builders why they use dihedral they will tell you it adds stability they don't think about it or their knowledge of aerodynamics is not up to the challenge. The other thing is we are used to seeing dihedral in air craft, the boffins put it on the aircraft so it must be good. If you look at the old time free flight aircraft they had heaps of all that stuff and they flew around slow and like they were a bit drunk and that was ok you didn't have control so the slower the better but with an aircraft you can have control over most times dihedral is not a good idea. In the case of designs like the talon being so shortly coupled makes longitudinal stability difficult as well. John

Makes sense for slow flying gliders and RET planes, but flat works better for me in less than perfect conditions

Who needs a 3D Printer..?....Not the older generation thats for sure...lol....Nice work Andrew, now the Stabilizer works WITH the plane, not against it. The king of Dutch Rolling is cured..!!!! Such a schoolboy design error, the original designer is probably mortified by his naivety.

Maybe the designer is not permitted to leave the cubicle and test the design

Haha "twitchy in manual mode"... Sounds logical if you remove the inherent stability and let stabilisation mode do that for you :)
