This is a great design, I have built a few like this and it always amazes me how well they fly. Try swapping it over to an A tail (inverted V), you get even quick roll and having yaw for low level FPV comes in hand pretty often. Great video as always!
@AndrewNewton6 жыл бұрын
Never done an A tail but definitely will

Very nice Andrew. Almost perfect launch on the maiden, and into the acrobatics on the second circle around. Excellent scratchy, and great on board footage. Thanks for the vid.

Frequent Flyer you program the TX so you have hi and low rates on a switch then you can change at a flip of the switch , even my $60 flysky i6 will do this Andrew has some good videos on programming radios too.

Yep, friend, you've done it yet again! Think I'll take a break from my FPV quads and build one of these. I love the size and portability, and also I have no "boomers" in my collection. So cool, Andrew. ONLY YOU could scratch-build it and have it work so beautifully! I have to laugh because your maidens are always so "successful" and you're always so giggly and happy and and mine are always - "crash, adjust, crash, adjust, *many many swear words* - fatal crash, then go home with enough knowledge to make another one that WOULD fly well, but then get home and don't. lol You are the King, my friend. ;)

It is, and it is efficient from the videos I have seen. Some people are making little 3s 18650 packs and apparently getting over and hour of flight time. Have you tried this on anything?

Wind made it look tail heavy maybe. The first flight on 2S was probably the only one that wasn't nose heavy

Hey Andrew, I want to build a Micro Skyhunter myself but am not too familiar with depron wings so i want to hotwire one, do you have an airfoil template where your wing is based off? If not i will just try to replicate it from the picture. Great little plane I hope mine will fly that good too. Keep it up!
@AndrewNewton6 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I thought it would be too thin for hot wire cutting. No template

I understand bank-and-yank turning. But because I have a terribly basic radio, I have never learned about the abilities of a modern transmitter. Can aileron and elevator be mixed in a modern radio so that a left- or right stick movement activates both aileron and elevator? Is that what you've done here?
@AndrewNewton6 жыл бұрын
You could do that mix, or any mix you can think of, but it wouldn't be a good idea. Any roll corrections you made would also operate the elevator. I don't have any mixing on this plane. If it had a moving rudder I might consider aileron/rudder mixing for better turns
@d.jensen51536 жыл бұрын
My sincere thanks for such a cogent and useful answer. I'm very much tempted to remove the ailerons and add wingtip dihedral and a rudder to make a trainer version of the Newton Micro Skyhunter. :-)
@AndrewNewton6 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, interesting idea. Might try that myself. If I do I'll call it the Jensen

You have me at the edge of my seat... I'm curious what mods you're going to do. Do you miss the polyhedral (I don't know if it had any dihedral in the wing center) wing tips or the taper of the original? I love the twin boom layout, I may have to build something similar, but I may have to figure out how to slow it down a little, I don't often have access to the big open spaces and am much more of a novice in my piloting skill level.
@AndrewNewton6 жыл бұрын
I'm usually flying in wind and turbulence where polyhedral is more of a problem than a help, so flat wings are best. Thicker and deeper wings will slow it down, and keep it as light as possible.
@mpikas6 жыл бұрын
I just realized that we've had this conversation before, that you don't like dihedral because of the wind you fly in, I think that you even have a video showing the problem. As far as slowing things down, I'm currently experimenting with a pile of old HZ Super Cub LP parts that I had sitting around that I hot wire cut a new wing for that has a 1.5" longer chord than stock and a fattened up Clark y airfoil (it ended up something close to 1.3" thick) as well as some great big drop down flaps, ailerons and I'll likely experiment with vortex generators and/or leading edge slats. It looks like I'm going to be able to keep it very close to the stock weight (about 25oz) with about 25% more wing area, an almost 1/2" thicker wing section and flaps. Just in case that ends up being too much of a good thing I have almost 350w worth of power going into an 11x6 prop. Hopefully the results of that will give me a pretty good idea what I would like to do with the wing on something like this.
