We do something similar with pool noodles. Cut it about about 18”. Cut a piece of pvc and run through the middle. Tie a line through the pipe and to a three way swivel then tie a line off the bottom of the swivel with a hook. Drop them flat on the water. When a catfish hit it the noodle will stand up and you know a fish is on. Modern day jug fishing.
