love watching you fish off the ohio river. boat fishing is the best but I live in an apartment and no where to store a boat. so bank / shore fishing is the best I can do. great to watch.. keep it coming..

Hey Steve, just letting you know that I have enjoyed your videos. Last winter I watched a lot of them and guess what. Try a drift sock
@SteveDouglastheCatfishDude9 жыл бұрын
Jimi Mallard as cody said a drift sock will help or you can go old school and cut a couple 2 inch holes in the bottom of a 5 gal bucket and tie a rope to the handle and pitch it out behind your boat about 6-8 ftt and tie it to your cleat for stability. it will help keep your rig straight. good luck

Hi Steve, great video. I was wondering if you have any experience fishing the Ohio river stretch between salt river and otter creek. I'm thinking about trying my luck out this year. I usually catfish at Nolin Lake, but the prospect of a monster fish from the Ohio is pretty tempting to give it a try.

I have a question for you sir: why were you using the bait clicker with the first fish and not the second one? I am not a fan of them personally. I have lost some good fish because the hook didn't set correctly. Also, (and this is the more important one) how is the new boat working out!? Looks great, I would love to have a setup like that!

Steve. Great videos. I live in south central park and do most of my catfishing in Conestoga river as I'm limited due to not having a boat. Want to try more areas like the Susquehanna river but tough when its only bank fishing I can do. Been catching some decent flatheads last couple weekends at night in Conestoga. Didn't realize they were in there. Usually caught channel cats but this year flatheads. I have been using green nightcrawlers and doing well. My bait shop sells salted shiners and suckers for bait. No luck yet with them. Maybe I should cut them up? About 4 inches long. Use the Carolina rig mostly in there. Thinking maybe start using Kentucky rig. Any suggestions? Conestoga water level is low so been trying deeper holes just off rapids/current. Primarily late evening in through night. Bite seems to shut off around midnight lately. Suggest keep fishing at that point? Thanks

I'm gonna order some rod holders and versa Trac bases real soon. FYI I live close to markland dam! You the man Steve! Caught my first respectable flathead last weekend came in at 28 1/3 pounds. Not quite up to your standards I'm sure but dang good for what we got going around here. Good tips with the adjacent water during the day. So would you target the deep during mid day then in the afternoon move up to that type of water before moving into shallow cover at night? And also would you drift in that adjacent water during that time of day or when is usually the best time for that? Thanks!

out of curiosity do you ever use live bait?
@fireshine9119 жыл бұрын
idk if youll answer this or not....benn fishing ohio river for 15 years and never evn caught nothing big...maybe a few small carp but thats it...what weight line? what weight weights and what size hook and what kinda rigging you using? id really like to be able to catch i big one before season ends....>>>>> I am off Findlay side of river so its too shallow for boats so I am bank fishin in all spot I see deep water...nothing but snags snags snags....
@SteveDouglastheCatfishDude9 жыл бұрын
+fireshine911 first off i would use some 60 lb braided fishing line with an 8 oz sinker with a 8/0 circle hook and i would make sure I knew where to find the deep water because thats where the big ones stay. here is a video i shared whith my subscribers that shows you how to find great fishing places from the bank here's the link.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5nGk2Stp7GLepY next catch you some shad or bluegills and cut them up and throw it out in the deepest spot you can access. You will lose some tackle but that just means your in a good spot for a big one. use a whole bluegill head. Good luck to you (Fireshine) I hope you have a great success.
@fireshine9119 жыл бұрын
+Steve Douglas The Catfish Dude Thank you for answering so fast woah!!!! Do you know the law here on using blue gills you catch in a small pond and freeze up to cut bait like you do In your vids? We dont have places to buy freshies at all and they dont sell full bodied head and all fish anywhere near me Here in Findlay Ohio and I dont know why, but I can never seem to catch any blue gills in the river at all...>>>
@SteveDouglastheCatfishDude9 жыл бұрын
+fireshine911 you will have to catch your bait in creeks or ponds and take to the river, but thats half your battle if you want to fish for big cats is bait collection. im not sure of your states laws but im sure you can find that out at your DNR website.

Why you choose to use baitcasting reels over spinning reels, and what kind of reels and rods you like to use? What actions rods, test of line size of hooks? Thanks I used to catch nice flatheads in Illinois biggest 48lbs. Ive hooked what I feel were bigger ones but you don't always get them all. Sometims all you get is a nice fight or a swurl in the water then snap goes you line.

monsterman27 its just what ive always had but there is nothing wrong with a spin casting combo, they actually give you a better feel in the fight. You guy's catch some real good channel cats. I mean real impressive. I commented on on of ur videos, and I hope you didn't think I was trying to be a jerk. I was just tryin to help you know how to tell male channels from females. Females never have huge heads or big mouths with fat looking lips, or are bluish in color. Males are almost navy blue when they are spawning. Ask a D.N.R. biologist if you believe I'm mistaken. God bless.

Steve would love to see ya fishing in a smaller river I'm in the foot hills of the Blue Ridge east side and the rivers are smaller. I fish in the beginnings of the Pee Dee. I have to use a long tail to get about but we have some big Flat Heads but hard to catch.

Steve Douglas The Catfish Dude Fished the 12th couldn't get any cat fish to bite but got 3 Large Red Horse Suckers they fight good and made the trip worth it. water temp is 73 so I figured they are beden so for a few weeks fishing will be more for Smallies, Suckers and Trout will start night fish to. we eat the Bull heads and Channels. they bite well at night. The Suckers caught are froozen for Flat head baits. I use a G3 guide Boat with a 16hp long tail cheap and works well.. Fish all day on 1 gal. gas. Top speed up river in strong currents with 400lbs. + gear is avg. 11mph. down stream 20+.
