@Thedanclan776 honestly a bit of a mix, I played Overwatch on and off but after playing OW2 for a couple of months didn’t get the same feeling as before. Also I’ve played a lot of rainbow 6 over the years and that game has had a similar feeling of going from fun to way too competitive even in a casual game. Even sports games that 10 years ago I would play with my mates and just relax now feel like massive sweat fests. The only games I’ve managed to play recently that give me some fun are single player games like the Lego games and stuff like that because it’s more of a nostalgia wave. But yeah mostly multiplayer games just are no where near as fun to me anymore and feel like they have to be played seriously.
@Mrkilla955

@@JWB05WHU Ignorance is bliss. To know enough to see why you're losing but not enough to get better at it is when the 'competitive drive' kicks in that makes us want to improve and makes playing these things feel like a job. This is the hook of every competitive game, inflating our egos because we're better than someone else at it, and it's sadly human nature. The way around it is not playing games that make us challenge that ego, or approach those that do with the mindset of not caring whether we win or lose and remove our ego from stake. I've found that if you do the latter it reveals just how miserable everyone else around you is that's caught in that "I have to win" mindset, because they're the ones yelling and getting angry at teammates (funny how it's never themselves isn't it? Ego.) Breaking that mindset and training yourself that it's okay to lose is the largest challenge that even after 10 years of "not giving a sh*t" I still have to remind myself from time to time.

The first Portal game is still the most balanced game I've played, when it comes to enjoyment vs time consumption. I'm not talking about speed runs and crap like that, but what it was like when it came out; before people had done guides and such. It'd take about 4-6 hours, depending on how quickly you caught on to techniques. *_And_* it was still hilarious and somewhat challenging - to a large extent because most people hadn't really seen anything like it. Once it was over, it felt like you'd accomplished something, and not like you'd just gotten off work.

I’ve never seen this guy’s videos but remember seeing him on feed one time. Seeing this video now reminds me of my slow realization of me getting a burnout during lockdown in 2020, I was playing the same thing for several months without any change of plans and it just hit me that I was just getting extremely bored, playing and doing the same thing again. Then, once we were out of lockdown, those same quality of games ceased to exist almost and it just sucks as in the games just don’t hit the same as they used to because of the lack of actual care within the depths of the game’s core design and mechanics and instead are being mostly stuffed with just extras of essentially nothing for people to waste time on but have no real purpose or goal to it.

It does suck having games all be so big because it means im never gonna finish my backlog. When you look at the backlog and see cyberpunk, final fantasy games, elden ring, indiana jones, tears of the kingdom, baulders gate 3 etc you just know youre never seeing the end Also the reason you get bored with multiplayer games flats is because they are built on repeating the same couple minutes over and over again for thousands of hours. Plus theres not even anything really new or creative about them.

I've grown to like handheld gaming more than playing most games on the big screen. As some others have alluded to, we lost something when the 3DS was succeeded by the Switch, you had big and small companies alike making smaller games for pocket sized devices. And you can still have some big experiences playing them.
@ppvsonicspy
@ppvsonicspy 20 күн бұрын
I love what Nintendo did with BoTW and ToTK actually, because the game is only as long as you want it to be. You can either go straight to the final boss in the first couple of hours of gameplay, play only through the main quests of the game while doing a couple of sidequests and stuff that are on the way of the main objective and be finished with the game in more hours but not that long at all, or you could explore every single nook and cranny of the map and take over 100 hours to finish the game. They legit delivered exactly what they promised with the Switch Zelda games, you can approach the games in any way you want to. I would also like to point out that, to me at least, even if I spend over 200 hours(that's my actual playtime in BoTW btw) in those games, everything you do in them does not feel like a chore and is actually fun.

This is the reason i love monster hunter. All title updates are free in until the expansion which is pretty much a new game. In the past The g rank expansion(harder difficult master rank) was a new game. The only micro transactions are cosmetic unless its the preoder bonus which is pretty much useless. But i have hope for February for the new game. Minimum play time of content for the base game is 100 hrs and another 100 for the expansion a year later

if anyone is looking for a short good game id HIGHLY recommend sheepy a short adventure, its free, super short only about and hour, and has BREATH TAKING music, GORGEOUS environments, 3 weirdly intense boss fights that really shouldnt be because theyre easy but the way the game is set up and presents them they feel so much bigger than they actually are, its mainly a platformer and i would 100% recommend to anyone and everyone, like i said earlier its free and only about an hour so please give it a try

this is how im feeling with elden ring right now. not far into the game, feel clueless majority of the time, and its my first soulsborne. my issue is that it just feels like there is no direction. great visuals, combat is fine, and im sure if I get to the end ill be satisfied, but it feels like im at a disadvantage just because i never decided to play any souls game before. which to me is dumb. excited to play baldur's gate at some point, that seems to be a long game but with more direction and actual missions that i go to which is what i prefer

As someone who’s played through elden ring several times, I miss not knowing stuff, my first play through, yes, you don’t know anything or where to go or what to do, but that’s where you choose where to go and what to do, find random sht and keep going, your stuck at a boss? Go take a walk find something else and then after a bit go back. Elden ring is often considered the easiest souls game because of that freedom. The others like dark souls kinda has you banging your head against a wall until you kill the boss. Basically I miss when I was how you are right now

Warframe is just fun for an MMO. But it does take a LONG time to get to everything. It personally took me over 1,300 hours across a year to finally get caught up. But the key to this game is PATIENCE. You play a little per week, do the weeklies (which are getting much easier as you progress), and eventually you reach the "end" (of current content). And if you finally decide to play it (which is really beginner friendly now, they revamped a bunch of core UIs and old quests), it is best not spoiled.

@ I would gladly consider Warframe to not be a cause of this problem, since it always deliver on content that you can play at your own pace for however short or long you want. I feel like Baldurs Gate opened the door to showing that a game doesnt have to be a million things to be amazing. It was a wall polished game that they released extra content for a year with a very open ending to the content. Sven also SLAMMED companies for doing this shit and I love him for it. With 850 hours on the game, i know that the 100 hours of gameplay i play every single time i go from start to finish will be the same but different. I love that and it sucks i will never get it back.

I find it insane that he lists Gotham Knights (a 25 hour game for 100% completion) and Desth Stranding (a game literally advertising its 100+ hour playtime from the beginning). Like i get it, those 6 hour games can be great, but sometimes i reslly do just want a month straight of this single player open world vibe. Minecraft servers stay up for years and years and years and thats normal but god forbid Hideo Fucking Kajima wants us to lock in on his next game. If you dont want to spend forever in a world thats fine, but to say that big games are a problem because backlogs and this and that, then that really comes back to you. Fr, if I don’t have time to play a longer game at that moment then I don’t. But when I do have the time and can sit down and immerse myself in a great experience and story, the longer play times become a great factor and really connect you with the characters and game. Like the witcher games are all pretty lengthy depending on what you do and imo I would hate for them to be a second shorter than they are. I just think sometimes longer games aren’t for everyone especially in a time where a lot of people want things immediately. Like if someone doesn’t like longer story telling and games just don’t play them. But don’t complain about it. Not every game was made for everyone. But also some games do just suck ass sometimes lol

This is exactly why games like Resident Evil 4, the original Last of Us, and the og Uncharted trilogy are so goated. They have no filler. You play them for like 16 hours (Uncharted is like 10 at most) and the best parts are right after the last part of the game that was also insanely goated. People talk about Resident Evil 4 specifically and don't have a consensus on if the village, castle, island, or lab parts are the best in the game. It switches up the gameplay and enemies so often that you can't ever really get bored of it. It's very very rare that a game can be as big as Red Dead Redemption 2, Elden Ring, or Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and be as consistently great as it is. I would rather have a game like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle which is 12 hours long and consistently great versus Starfield which had some really great content and moments but good luck trying to find 80% of it in between the manually generated planets that have literally nothing happening on them. Will I ever play Starfield again? Idk, maybe but probably not. Will I play Indiana Jones again? Yes. Absolutely. I can see myself hopping back into it when a sequel is about to come out or some DLC.

Literally completely fine. Expectation vs deication issue. Same with gotham knights, you dont have to stop and craft every single time you fight something, just when you start to get weak, id play for hours and only switch my armor and weapons like 2 or 3 times. Plus barely anyone played it co-op which is how it was intended to be played. Wild that we as gamers can ask for a nice co-op pve experience and when we are given that (a batman melee game built on borderlands style upgrading systems) we say its not fun and too grindy when the real issue was overmanaging your stats and playing alone cause you have no friends.

A game that i really enjoy is xenoblade chronicles 1,2&3 they are fun JRPGs. the first one takes at most 120+ hours with all the side quests and bit of level grinding for max level. They have amzing storys and can be played in what ever order you want since they are in different universes (even if 3 combines xc1&2 it has its own story) all i can say is that is my favorite game series and its worth to look at even if its just a lets play or a few story videos if you dont want to buy it and not knowing if its to your liking Edit: The battle system is quite complicated at first and takes a while to get used to since all 3 have different types of combat styles but if you memorize and understand what to do then its quite easy

I feel like I'm obligated to recommend this game because it quickly became my top two favorite game BECAUSE the experience is so fleeting. It's called Outer Wilds and it's an indie game released a few years ago with only like, 10-20 hours of content depending on how fast you play. It's the type of game that you can only play once because it's all about knowledge and learning about the lore and the world around you to uncovering mysteries just to figure out what you need to do, and if you already know what you need to do, you lose that experience. anyways, please play this game i would love to watch it

ill give you a game that has a ton of content, community hosted servers, is still getting new updates for free and costs only 5 bucks on steam, whilst being completely free and AD FREE on mobile, all developed by a single person: Mindustry its like minimalist factorio with sectors you need to capture, either by surviving waves of enemies or destroying an enemy base with your own units. These sectors are all about 1.5 to 5 hours in actual playtime (depending on how much you optimise) and theres 36 of them... plus over a hundred optional sectors more, some of which are even harder than the final level of the base game. and i didnt even mention the INTEGRATED MOD BROWSER (which i find absolutely mindblowing for a small indiegame) with a highly active modding community and additional high quality content probably more than twice that of the basegames length. (i am a huge fan of the game and think it is very underrated, so ill use every opportunity i have to promote it, whereever its apllicable)

I also have very little time to play because of full-time job and family and friends, and I mostly manage to play by reducing my sleep time. So when like yesterday night I play 2h of Marvel and OW, and literally get rolled and have absolutely no fun, I wonder if I shouldn't have gone to bed instead, or played another game.

The problem is, if we wanted more content, dlc is the way to go, not every game has to be a 60+ hour experience. Like i love fromsoft, i can play through darksouls 1 or 3 in 2 or 3 days for a run, meanwhile as fun as elden was, clearing it a third time is a massive chore. If i wanted a long game, I'd play an mmo or an online pvp game. But the issue for those is that those games are old and I've missed too many "you had to be there" events and items that i can no longer get. No one wants to sit there and get "oh damn that skin/weopon/mount is awesome... and it can no longer be obtained because you had to play back in 2010 to get it" Another issue is battle passes and shitty monetization practices. Like the only way ill play rivals is with friends because there's literally no reason to play solo. Its either sit and grind missions with characters i dont like or buy and i hate both those options. Oh, you want this skin? You have to either buy it full price or buy the battle pass and get a bunch of things you dont want to grind to buy the one thing you do want. Which is why im loving indie games more than AAA games these days. A play through of terraria, hades, castlevania esk games like blasphemous or hollow knight, etc are much better than buying a $70 half baked mess that'll take me over a month or two to beat since i have a life and work to do.

thats the difference between zelda and elden ring from most of those other games, it never bogs you down with a check list of shit to do, you do the extra shit bc youre genuinely curious, and if youre not youll forget about it and move on with your day. games like far cry, hzd, god of war, etc literally assign you chores that are so hard to ignore sometimes i just zone out and stop playing

If games weren't being announced so early just to make investors happy it would allow devs to get their game done without the constant urging of impatient gamers.

I think Horizon, Days Gone, and Ghost wire are perfect the way they are. Complaining that side objectives and quests are filler is obscene imo. They are there to do if you want, you can by all means rush through the games main stories no problem. But if you want to hang out in the worlds, doing random quests, then you have that option. Which imo is perfectly fine, not every game needs them though.

I agree, and at least in the case of Horizon (I haven't played the other two titles) I think the side quests do actually add to the world building. I liked getting a hands on experience with the different cultures you can find. Was honestly really confused to see Horizon being mentioned in this video.

Something I've realized is that, at least for me personally, MMORPGs kinda aren't fun unless you've been playing since release. You'll see high level players with super cool skins or OP weapons and gear and think "I want that" but then to actually get it you have to grind for hours. It's exhausting. Especially in a game like Warframe where everything has a material cost and a crafting time.

This is why Eldin Ring was the greatest game I ever played. It was a complete game that you could rush or take your time with and it had no hand holding. I also saw people in his chat saying cyberpunk was a disappointment, when they fixed the issues it was one of the best games I ever played

9:57 The Zelda games, I think, are a little different, specifically the Breath of the Wild era, while they can get players playing for long times (My mom has nearly 5000 hours on BOTW, and is counting on TOTK), but they don't have an ulterior motive to keep you playing. There isn't anything that Nintendo gains from play time since it's a one time purchase, it isn't live-service, and the two DLCs in BOTW are one-and-done. It gets big hours because of the "open air" approach they've been taking recently that encourages people to engage with the gameplay loop rather than by hypnotizing you. I'll put it this way, it's easy to get distracted, rather than playing because you feel obligated. That is my subjective opinion, anyways. The game itself isn't long, you can finish the story within a few days probably... if you don't get distracted. Which if you aren't having fun, you won't get distracted, it's really as simple as that. Disclaimer, I massively prefer the older Zelda games which didn't have stuff like this, but I thought this was an important distinction when talking about "Games with padding."

I will never complain about a game being too short because at the end of the day you own the game and can replay it whenever and however you want. Resident evil has unlockables that allow you to play the game with less fear and steamroll those enemies that scared the shit out of you mere hours ago, dmc has tons of challenges, the original gow trilogy had skins, challenges, power ups that made the games feel fun and different between playthroughs. SPIDERMAN 1/2/MM HAVE SOO MUCH REPLAYABILITY just because of the suits, combat styles, etc. etc. you wanna play spiderman, but want it to be different? Try a complete stealth run! Video games are what you make of it. W yapsesh

6:31 basically the developers fault, they dont teach the player because they don't understand it themselves, and they want players to love and explore it. So for those toxic players they end up frustrated over things they don't know essentially.

To add to the games that are relatively short but have a bunch of extra stuff, Elden ring lol once I learned where to go and stuff I was able to beat the game in 4-5 hours but it has so many side bosses that you get lost in the game. I think it’s a good thing for that game but it’s very intimidating for people that don’t have all that time

Yknow, the return to single player is absolutely valid. Currently multiplayer just feels too stagnant and youre very incentivized to compete with others for items or progress. Even some games with banger single player experiences that allows multiplayer like RoR2, you're competing against your squadmmates for loot so you dont get left behind in your build. So far my most fun ive had in multiplayer is base building/survival pve with a bunch of friends as youre not tied to play it multiplayer only, while allowing the game to have emergent gameplay loops from interacting with other people. Basically, a lot of basic fundamentals in games are overlooked in favor of feature bloat and the most long lasting fun things are usually the least developed features of a game.

this is actually a crazy react, because MMO space is the opposite right now. the biggest argument is that everything is handed out too fast and to easy so there is no sense of accomplishment. Games have become a treadmill and not a Journey. Hes right I don't have all the time in the world anymore, but something is absolutely lost by removing content that gets you out in the game world.
