When a game is free, and cheats costs less than the cheapest cosmetics with the punishment is you have to make a new e-mail to play again, there's nothing discouraging cheaters from populating the game. A full priced game that had everything available with a smaller playerbase seemed much better at punishing cheaters.

Hours ago I played Sombra. I was invisible, alone, and a Cassidy headshot me from like 30meters. There was nothing behind or near me, he wasn't aiming at anybody else. Great experience!!

I’m obsessed with Overwatch cheaters getting exposed. Years ago at this point I had a friend who got caught by me rage cheating as Ashe in one of my games. We drew the game, my whole friend group of almost 100 people mass reported him, he got banned and then we all blocked him on every social media platform. It’s one of my favorite gaming memories. Edit: seems like all the closeted OW cheaters are mad that we cut off our friend for doing that. Skill issue. Just don’t cheat.

The only instance of cheating in Overwatch that I've encountered wasn't even in-game. Someone I just met said she plays Overwatch, too. I asked who she mained and she said Soldier. I wasn't suspicious at all. After all, there are legitimate Soldier mains in the wild. Got around to talking about strategies and teamwork when she said that she has none. She just goes in and kills everyone. I'm no pro player. Matter of fact, I'm only high gold. However, "just running in and killing everyone" is not an effective strategy, especially at the rank this woman claimed to be... Which was Master/GM. I asked how the hell that works for her and she just casually drops that she has a strong aimbot and wallhacks. I have never lost my respect for another gamer so quickly without ever seeing them play before. I have never talked to that person again.

Young kids are getting Visa gift cards from grandparents. I'm sure that's why you're seeing a big increase in cheaters. These kids think they can get GM if they had good aim but mommy and daddy won't give them the credit card. But now they have a shiny card that can actually get those cheats they've wanted. They don't need to spend it on anything else because parents/grandparents already buy them everything they want. They just aren't willing to pay $50+ to someone on discord for cheats.
