Thanks to a lot of information I've learned watching this channel I now clean cast iron for myself and two estate sale companies. I recently received a lid that was impervious to electrolysis and lye. This was the first time I had encountered anything remotely like this. I say that to say this, add Purple Power to your list of cleaning tricks. I soaked the lid in Purple Power (in the automotive section at Walmart) for two days and it came clean. It will also cut crud on enameled cast iron or anything that shouldn't be in electrolysis. I poured three gallons of Purple Power in a five gallon bucket with a lid. I put the pieces in the bucket inside a pillow case to act as a filter keeping the Purple Power cleaner longer. This will work in your electrolysis tank as well.

I call mine Brenda. Good to see you well and finding things you like. Correct me if I'm wrong, the Made in USA marking dates it to mid- late 60s and later? Some sort of federal regulation of that era regarding country of origin?

I don't know if it was an actual forced regulation or a suggested thing but that is correct on the dates.

I have one oven with the "tab" Handel and I think it socks. Very hard to use a pot hook when you have coals on it.

Heya, Stephen! Got a quick question for you... I had a neighbor move a couple of months ago, and when they left, they gave us their old grill. It's one of those Char-Griller steel barrel grills. I haven't done a lot of grilling lately, but we have some tenderloin filets and I thought I'd clean up Dave's old grill and fire it up. The problem is this: all of the cast-iron grill grates are rusty! How do I clean and season these things? Thanks!

Fire it up good and hot. Burn it clean. Wire brush it after it cools. Scrub it good with soapy water and spray it down with some Pam so it doesn’t get rusty, wipe down the cooking surface. Throw down some burgers and dogs for a test run.

I have a lodge Dutch oven #12 , but my lodge camp Dutch oven #12 lid won't fit it do I need a lodge #12 skillet lid to fit it?

Usually with lodge, the Dutch oven is a little bit of a different size then the skillets. Dutch oven covers usually do not have pour spout covers while the lodge skillet covers do. The lodge chicken fryers are more likely to be the ones that will fit the Dutch oven.

I have a ~30 yr old 5 qt camp oven (with a 10 on lid) and a pretty new 5 qt standard dutch oven (domed lid + no legs) that uses a 10.25 inch lid. The camp oven 10 (inch?) lid is sized a bit larger. It does not fit quite right on the new one, but my new lid will loosely fit on the camp oven base. On the other hand, today's new manufacture camp and standard dutch ovens may be more standardized on lid sizes from glancing at their website listing.
