I'm betting it will take an entire squad to maintain a single carrier. With so many docking bays it must require huge farming to keep up. Thus creating a need for players to come together.

That would be a dumb decision considering many commanders fly solo. Fdev already stated that upkeep (maintaining as you say) will be very minimal.

This carrier thing seems awesome! However I have some questions about it which honestly is making me seem quite worried about it. 1. How much will this cost? My biggest concern is how much will its cost be. I have a Conda with about 17 Mil right now, and to get there, took me well over 48 hours. Just trying to imagine how much something that huge would cost! It might be upwards of 50 BILLION credits! Now yes, there are Commanders who could afford this, but me, and plenty of other people, could not and I can foresee us never being able to. It seems like such an amazing feature, but i'm afraid that not many players would be able to experience it because of the price. 2. How hard is it to get? I already said something about the cost, but thinking about getting it in general. Is there some sort of requirements you have to get first? Do you have to be a certain rank with a certain faction? Faction grinding is more annoying than it is actually painful to do, but it still is concerning. 3. Will this update make Elite as itself "Grindier"? Think about it, there is a massive fleet carrier that can do all these things, you have to take some things into consideration. Its cost, requirements to actually get it, how long it will take to get it, etc. Elite is already a VERY grindy game, and as much as I love it with my 600+ hours, I have to say it is very grindy and actually made me loose interest in it for a while because of it. Now I know you guys at Ghost Giraffe don't have all the answers, but if you could perhaps enlighten me on what you might think would answer my questions, please say so! ~CMDR Tribble Kibble

any word on the cost of these ships? a conda costs 146 mil, unmodified, and hearsay says a fleet carrier will cost 500 Billion credits. if true that would be nearly the same cost ratio as going from a sidewinder directly to the anaconda. it just seems a little extreme for an individual pilot who isnt part of a group. maybe having an introductory price of 75 billion and then having upgrade costs and refits cost more just like outfitting a normal ship

@@mrb6144 Double Panite mining is extremely profitable. I think the low end of not trying hard is like 100M/hr. Some people though have taken the effort to provide maps (well series of screenshots) of the good panite astroids in some of the rings to get even better rates(looks like around 250M/hr). It is definitely profitable, but like Void Opals it can be monotonous, though nice thing is it's all laser based mining making things simpler. From Void Opals I got my Beluga and Conda, Painite though funded my Cutter and a decent Trade build that can handle eliminating most NPC pirates.

It sounds cool, but I don't really get the fleet carrier - support ship relation. I thought carriers were for squadrons and support ship could be purchased individually? But if both are individual, why not simply have one line of ships? There must be more gameplay around this than we know of I guess

@@kentanakamura89 Not really. An engineered Conda with an FSD Booster can easily get 90ly jumps. With a neutron boost, that's ×4, so 360 ly in a single jump. Riding the neutron highway, there would be a neutron star like every jump, and that's with normal fuel, not some insanely expensive resource.

I hope this thing will be ludicrous expensive, and I mean ludicrous in plaid expensive, to buy and maintain. So I hope that fore one commander to buy one it will incorporate some sort of donation system. Like I want one and so I can set up an Investment opportunity. I want one for a forward resupply base far out in deep space for fellow explorers to be able to use. So you the explorer can donate and thus get guaranteed access to the ship. Either something like this or just have it be ludicrous expensive.... Because there are many many commanders that have been playing this game everyday since launch and are now sitting on huge amounts of creds and the awesomeness of this vessel will be pretty diminished if you all of a sudden have three, four or more in every system you jump in to. Right like everywhere you go now you only see the best of the best most expensive ships and so they are all now kind of 'meh and I don't want this for the carriers. I have spoken....
