It's been a long two years and this is the first thing that's felt like gentle permission to let it all go, forgive myself for falling apart, and start healing. I don't know if I've ever had a song hit me this hard. A balm for the soul, ethereally beautiful.

It does. I still remember the first time I heard White Winter Hymnal and how I walked six miles to buy the album based on one song. Even though I was all the way on the east coast when I bought it, that album will always remind me of biking out west, with nothing but sun, wind and rain behind me. This track gives me the same feeling.

... What a perfect encapsulation of coming to terms with life; to what it's been. The war, everything "always distant, always off".. The world/life many of us pine for seems almost impossible to ever attain.. In that notion, we begin to feel lost within, hopeless. And then "Somehow I see, it's free." Hope... Grace.. Light... Love. All we can ever do is begin... Begin to forgive, to believe, to feel again... Begin to open the folds of our hearts to this great unknown. .. May that one warm day wrap its arms around whoever needs it right now.

Pet Sounds was the third album of my dad's I ever put into the CD player, at age 5 it was probably the most amazing sounds I'd ever heard. Almost 20 years later I've come full circle to land on this beauty. On the off chance you check replies, I'd love to pass on some good music to someone with clearly similar interests. If you have the time, you should check out an Australian band called Sticky Fingers. "Land of Pleasure" is an album that might just change your life.
