You're so right Lex, I'm 56 and I've been listening to that song my entire life. I lost both my parents thus past year. My youngest son had moved out just prior to that and I'm feeling like I heard this song for the first time, whole new meaning, I'm so teared up! omg! You'll find songs take on different meanings as you go through the stages of life. Same thing happened when brother died 20 years ago. Sad and happy songs hit you hard. 😢Thanks for the interaction. *The interaction at the end...likely had everything to do with the history between the two. Lindsey and Stevie joined Fleetwood Mac together...coming from their own group: Buckingham Nicks. The two had a ''relationship/love affair'' which ended during the recording of the Rumors album period. This concert is one of the Reunion concerts...so the look was likely for the two being in a better place with each other.*

"The Dance" which was this recorded concert was a reunion show of sorts. Great album. As always great job guys! They were a couple long before joining Fleetwood Mac. Stevie was only in the band due to Lindsay saying he would only join if his girlfriend at the time (Stevie) was included. Many of the songs from this band were about the relationships in the band, the breakups, the all kinda slept with each other after the marriages all fell apart. Great story.

"I've been afraid of changing because I built my life around you." Been listening to this song for almost 20 years, and that line for me personally has referred to both good and bad friends, heartbreaks and loves I had to let go, and family. Which I guess make sense since the song is about maturity, time, and relationships. Incredible.
@julieholbrook53022 жыл бұрын
6 years after this tour, as they performed this on stage during the 2003-2004 tour, Stevie announced publicly that the song was written for/about her time/relationship with Lindsey. He had taught her to play the guitar she used when she wrote it. And, it was written during a time when Polydore dropped their album, and Lindsey went on tour with the Everly Brothers. They had had a fight, she was dropped off at a friend's house in Aspen where she thought about the direction she wanted her life to take. Even though they had just been dropped from their label, and were struggling romantically, she decided then and there that a future in music with Lindsey was the vision she'd fight for. At the time of this 1997 performance, their relationship was on a trajectory they'd not experienced since they were in their first band together in their late teens...friends, musical soul mates, sobriety. Their shared history is incredibly complex, and bittersweet. They have been to hell and back. In 2018, they split professionally again. Someday, a biopic of Fleetwood Mac, at least, and their half-decade relationship at best, will grace our screens. Until then, a deep dive on Buckingham/Nicks is a frigging rabbit hole of endless drama.

Stevie Nicks is a wonderful songwriter. The end…. She wrote this in Aspen. Lyndsey had left to go tour with the Everley Brothers (which ended up not happening), they were in a band together but just hadn’t made it. She was waitressing a couple jobs, Lyndsey has never had a job, and they weren’t getting along. She was contemplating going back to college. And she wrote this song about making that decision. She was out with friends one night, at a house that she did t know the people & they didn’t know her. Her friends left and she decided to stay at this house, a d asked them if she could stay and write a song. It was 1975, at a stranger’s house in Aspen, she sat in the middle of the room on the floor and wrote this song. Are you able to withstand the landslide that is happening in her life. I think she gave herself a timeframe, maybe a month or so to make it and if not she would go back to college (and have a normal life). That’s when Fleetwood Mac called them and asked them to join the band. The rest is history. This song is one of the most covered songs in history. Stevie is my favorite songwriter.

Heya Brad and Lex. Some of your feelings here reminded me a poem by Robert Bly. It goes something like this: I never intended to have this life, believe me- It just happened. You know how dogs turn up At a farm, and they wag but can’t explain. It’s good if you can accept your life-you’ll notice Your face has become deranged trying to adjust To it. Your face thought your life would look Like your bedroom mirror when you were ten. That was a clear river touched by mountain wind. Even your parents can’t believe how much you’ve changed. Sparrows in winter, if you’ve ever held one, all feathers, Burst out of your hand with a fiery glee. You see them later in hedges. Teachers praise you, But you can’t quite get back to the winter sparrow. Your life is a dog. He’s been hungry for miles, Doesn’t particularly like you, but gives up, and comes in.

Check out some of the early albums (“Oh Well”, “Rattlesnake Shake”, “Coming Your Way”, “Black Magic Woman” -made famous by Santana-“Shake Your Money Maker” etc) … then they went through some “bad winters” and emerged as the Mac most people know now (Rumours album and post that) … a “survivor” band for sure. Many ups/downs and they carried on, somehow….

Great review again guys! Lex great analysis of the music.. You should listen to some original "Peter Green - Fleetwood Mac" "Man of the World" "Albatross" "Black Magic Woman" and a few others Totally different sound and band (blues!) Fantastic group on a par with Cream and Clapton in the 60s but then Peter Green lost it after a bad acid trip in Germany and didn't perform for decades right when they were at their height. He (Peter Green the lead guitarist and singer then/originally/the founder of the group) named the Band "Fleetwood Mac" after "Mick Fleetwood" (the Drummer) who's with them to this day as he didn't want the limelight and also because he had issues I think and knew he wanted to be able to let the band be independent after they became successful if he left.. and weirdly he did indeed leave due to force of his mental health issues even became homeless and went from being the best blues guitarist in the world to not playing a guitar in decades until about the 90s or 2000s I think he finally was found and started to get his life kind of back on track even performed in his final years but was never the same and looked TOTALLY different to his heyday with Fleetwood Mac! You should definitely check out Peter Green Fleetwood Mac from the 60s "Man of the World" "Albatross" "Black Magic Woman" and a few others as they're hauntingly beautiful blues music, vocally lyrically and virtuoso guitar also from Peter Green.. Cheers from London England 👍😎🏴

When she sang about seasons - it was about season of life - like childhood, adult, parent, senior, etc. - not about the 4 seasons of the year. Stevie and the guitar player (Lindsey Buckingham) were partners even before they joined Fleetwood Mac. In fact Fleetwood Mac wanted Lindsey to join the group to be lead guitar after Peter Green left the group. Lindsey agreed on condition Stevie could join the group ... and the rest is history.

2:32 Brad realizing what Lex meant about the aging thing is definitely my favorite moment ever on this channel.

When Nick's and Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac they brought so much to the band. New songs, new sounds, don't get me wrong I loved the old band. This change made them more commercial, fantastic. Thanks y'all.

My take on growing older.Life experiences can really help you gain a lot of wisdom so you can make better decisions and avoid mistakes and bad choices you might make when younger.I'm also more content,at the age of 57,than I was in my youth. When I was younger I always wanted to be hanging out with people and doing something.I appreciate life more and simple things like getting a cup of coffee and driving to a park to take pictures of the sunrise feels way more rewarding than it would have when I was younger.I appreciate the beauty in nature a lot now too.

In another FM review, Brad said he thought he heard a banjo. It was a guitar, but played by Lindsey Buckingham, who uses a unique finger picking style. You need to watch him play to 'get it.'

I'll say it again for the nth time . . . I love that you two seem to really enjoy Fleetwood Mac. But if you wanna stand out from the pack, react to the studio version of *_World Turning_* . Highlights exactly how similar Lindsey and Christine's voices are, as well as how under-rated Lindsey's guitar work is. It is an excellent example of Mick's innate understanding of what a song NEEDS from a drummer. Often less is more. The song is half over before the beat drops and at the end there is a drum with a head on it that allows him to control the head tension AS he plays it. Radically cool song and often overlooked by all by the truest of fans.

You have to listen to the studio version, on the album -- from when Stevie still had her upper register -- it's sublime. This is good too though.

Love you both listening to the music I was raised on. Lex is my girl getting into the music!

I think this song was partially about when Stevie and Lindsey were about to get record contract, and then it fell through. She saw her reflection on the mountain, and a landslide brought it down.

Check out the Dixie Chicks cover from the early 2000s. It's very good! Smashing Pumpkins as well. Good pickup on Fleetwood hippie vibes, Lex! You are right. They did a lot of folk rock in their music.

She was only in her mid 20's when she wrote this song but was considering giving up on a music career. So when she said she was getting older she meant she was getting too old to chase the musical career dream and time to get a "real" job. But soon after she joined Fleetwood Mac and ...Boom!
