Learn how to make a simple homopolar motor and how the right hand rule predicts the direction of spin in the wire based on the orientation of the magnetic field and the direction of the charge through the wire.

I'm sure this guy knows his stuff.....but there's so many confusing things in this video....in particular the RHR. At around 13.15, unless I'm mistaken, the image clearly shows his Left Hand with thumb pointing upwards....I thought this was supposed to be the right hand rule🤔. Also...there are so many videos describing the RHR differently....some show the thumb as the force/direction and others show a different digit.....all confusing 😠.....maybe someone can clarify this rule ?.....please 👌

I can't remember if I messed it up in this video. I can summarize a little for you if you like. The RHR is designed for.a positive charge (which is a little annoying because negative electrons are the thing moving). If you imagine a positive charge moving through your wire then your thumb can be the direction of the charge through the wire. The magnetic field folks do different ways, I like using all my fingers (cause often times we draw multiple B-field lines and we have multiple fingers). Your palm is the direction you apply force when you push on stuff so I use that to symbolize the direction the the wire feels the force when moving through the field. My favorite spot to check this out is on ophysics. It is.a rad little site. You can shoot some charge through field and watch how they bend and practice the RHR. Sorry about the confusion!

I’m still not satisfied with the explanation everyone keeps giving. The right hand rule tells us there is a force, and predicts the direction of the force, but we’re already AWARE of its existence, and know what direction the force is headed. What it still doesn’t explain is WHY the force is there, what the force is, and why it’s continually moving in that direction

The stronger the battery, the more the more the force.
