Moving on from Endicott Arm we make our way to Juneau and nearby Auke Bay before forsaking the Inside Passage and heading for the infamous Gulf of Alaska and beautiful but treacherous Lituya Bay.

Wow, what a birthday present , Another Venture into Lituya Bay . We lived in the bay when the tsunami hit. Only missed it ,because mom had to go to Juneau to give birth to my little brother. So our lives were spared. It's so beautiful. Thank you.

You were lucky indeed and you obviously had fate on your side. There was another story I heard about a group of Canadian climbers who were camped on the edge of the bay and supposed to be picked up by float plane the following morning. But the pilot was concerned about the weather and came the night before and picked them up just a few hours before the wave.

@@FlemingYachts Most remarkable, was Harold and Sonny Ulrick riding the wave up over the trees, and it set them back where they had been. We always anchored with Ulricks. Dad said it was the only safe anchorage in the Bay. Dad was on the radio with Mickey and Orvil on the Sunmore when they went down. He was still out fishing.

Thank you so much for this portion of your journey. The Norweigen Sun is the last cruise ship that I have stepped foot on since -- well since everything went away. I took my now late husband on that ship departing out of Cape Canaveral in December 2019 for 3 back-to-back cruises, 5 days each. The staff were incredible with my husband's health circumstances and I am so glad he was able to go on this ship. Cruising was part of our journey together and previous to this trip, we were on RCCL Harmony of the Seas and then previous to that one MSC Divina in September 2019. So 5 cruises in the span of 4 months. I know that his ❤ would be filled with joy to watch your videos if he was still here. Most especially the Alaska ones. We both talked about going there, but he did not handle the cold, so it was not an option. Again, thank you. Many blessings to you and all that you do.

I was a Co-Captain for a good friend of mine who was a delivery Skipper Back in 2015. We were moving a 75' Motor Yacht from Cordova AK back to Seattle. We had hoped to anchor for the night in Lituya Bay. The Gulf of Alaska had been kind to us and with a big blow due we chose to get back inside at Cape Spencer while we had the chance. We throttled back as we went by the opening to Lituya Bay and wondered at the power that earthquake released that fateful day.....thank you to the crew of Venture for sharing the Beautiful Views of one of Nature's Wonders.

I'm surprised that Venture II's anchor chain has not been painted in the standard, mnemonic to help seamen remember the order of the colours go: Rub - Red, Your - Yellow, Balls - Blue, With - White, Grease - Green. Or the simple >30m vessel - two-colour system using just red and white markings!

Of all the great characteristics of stainless steel chain, such as stacking well, mud shedding and staying clean, and good looks, one thing it doesn't do well is accept paint. Chain counters are needed.

-- QUESTION -- Any idea what the running fuel cost on this? Is it 2 MPG? is that the way to approach budgeting for a journey? Certainly worth it for an extended cruise.
@FlemingYachts
@FlemingYachts Жыл бұрын
I don't know where you got the idea we are using Venture II. We are still using the original Venture which now has over 71,000 nautical miles under her keel. Venture II was built to European spec and remains in Europe. She was sold about 10 years ago and I believe she is currently in Greece. Fuel consumption depends very much on speed. Venture burns about 1.5 US gallons per mile at a cruising speed of around 9.5 knots.
