This portable chicken coop design is incredible! The step-by-step instructions were so clear, and I love how you explained every detail along the way. It's such a practical and innovative solution for backyard chicken keeping. I can't wait to try building this myself-thanks for sharing your expertise and making it look so manageable!

Had to see this again...I modified the design to fit a premade coop on top of your design which is amazing...a three story coop. The linolem is now part of a second story nesting area. Now I am builing your frame design again to add to the original for an estimated 12 foot bottom run area becase the sun hits in the late afternoon and I needed to give them some dirt and shade. Thanks again.

Wow! Great job! I am thinking about building another chicken coop for my girls and I have been looking at some of these movable coop models. Yours is a lot stronger than the ones on the market. God bless and thank you for your instructive video.

Thank you, I will say in hindsight it would have been better to use an actual set of chicken tractor tires which lift the coop and provide a little more clearance.

Thank you for this project and plans. The cost may be a bit more compared to big box/Amozon, but this is better wood than chep pine or common that they seem to use. Quality is perfect. I use presure treated for everything. Especially in Louisiana with the humidity, storms, and termites. This is perfect and will last. Thank you. Love your work and craftsmanship!

This is a really nice setup. One important thing I would change would be adding more ventilation. Chickens really only need wind protection so the upper portions of the house should be more open so the waste gasses can escape quickly and easily. Their poop can become toxic to the birds and you won't really know it until they die

Great job. Can you give me an estimate on how much the lumbar cost to build this coop? That will help me with my budget.
@E_Fleming
@E_Fleming Жыл бұрын
The lumber would probably cost about 300-350, but with the roof, linoleum, chicken wire, and door hardware it’s probably up near 600

Hey thanks! I didn’t show it in this video, but there’s a demo in the coop tour video for this build. Honestly, I’ll probably need to get a proper set of chicken tractor wheels to give me some more clearance. As it’s built now, it does move but it should be easier.

Great work! Best home for chickens. Is there anyway to build simpler?
@E_Fleming
@E_Fleming Жыл бұрын
Hello yes you could simplify this design. Build only one access door on the coop and one on the side of run (instead of two which it currently has). You could eliminate the “x” on the coop access door which is merely aesthetic. Paint everything one color (trim, coop, and run). Eliminating the linoleum and the trap door would simplify the design, but I wouldn’t do either of those.

@E_Fleming
@E_Fleming Жыл бұрын
Hey! Yeah, I would say this coop is perfect for 3 chickens, maybe 4 if you’re able to let them free range during the day. At this point I am planning to keep this coop, but I have contemplated building them to sell. As you can tell, it’s a lot of work and it’s hard to compete with the prices at amazon and tractor supply. 🫤

any rough idea of how many 2x3x8s i would need for this project? trying to see if this will be below the cost of a prefab coop
@E_Fleming
@E_Fleming Жыл бұрын
Good question, I haven’t done a supply list for the coop / run, but I would estimate the total cost of this project to be between 600-650. The lumber / t1-11 was probably only half of that. Chicken wire, hinges, door hardware, shingles, and paint all added up very quickly. I can guarantee you it will last a decade or more, and the same can’t be said about a lot of prefab coops.

@E_Fleming
@E_Fleming Жыл бұрын
Hey, I built it last summer when lumber prices were still very high (I think they’ve come down since then). I would say you would be lookin at about $550 today. Door hardware alone was about $100 of that. Chicken wire about 60. 2 sheets of t1-11 at $40 each. About 40 for screws. And on and on. It adds up quickly 🫤
