URGENT! Belgian Draft Horse with severe eye injury was scheduled to go to slaughter needs your HELP!

If you are new to this channel Cory and I purchased a 43 acre farm in February of 2022 and rescued 6 Belgian Draft horses from shipping to slaughter. Since the original six were rescued we additionally rescued two others from kill pens as well. Check out some of our older videos to see our story.
However, this video is very personal to us because we need your help! On Friday March 17th, while scrolling through Facebook I came across a horse that was scheduled to ship on the next slaughter truck to Mexico. The reason this horse stood out to me was because he has suffered horrible abuse and his right eye has been poked out! I started networking to see if someone was going to take the horse and as of 3:30pm on Friday no one had paid for him. I was not going to let this horse end up at slaughter so I paid for him and rescued him. There were groups that said they would pick him up but he was not paid for...therefore he was not safe!
A Coggins test was done on Friday and results should be back on Monday. We have scheduled transport for Tuesday and made arrangements with our vets office to bring him there on our way home from Kemp, TX. From the pictures our vet thinks his eye needs to be removed but she will not be able to tell until she sees him in person.
BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!
Over the last few months, Cory and I along with three amazing women that I don't know what I would do without them in my life, Jeannine Residori, Kara Wray and Michelle Raney...we have all started the Big Hoof Foundation! We will be rescuing horses like these who have been abused, neglected and dumped at kill lots. Our goal is saving more lives! We have been approved for 501(c)3 status and are a certified non-profit. We are working to get the foundation off the ground and more details on the foundation will be given soon. Right now we are focusing on saving lot#269 and getting him the medical care he needs.
We need your help to raise money to cover the costs of lot#269 (who needs a name) and getting the foundation moving forward. Donations are going to be temporarily accepted on the Fletcher Farms Amarillo website on a page dedicated to the Big Hoof Foundation since we do not have a website created yet.

Bail - $1,175
Transportation - estimate $300
Eye surgery - Estimate from the vet $300-$800
Aftercare - Medications, blood work, etc. ($ amount unknown)

Alfa Pro is $17.50 per 50lb. bag plus tax at Rancher Supply and $18.25 per bag at HF&C. WE go through about 2-1/2 bags per day to feed all the 8 horses. We also purchase hay and alfalfa from Ranchers Supply which is used to feed the horses and donkeys.

I am going to donate to your foundation. I do want you to know that there are other foundations that rescue the "big hoofs". You might want to research them as they can provide you help and advise. I do know from watching Horse Plus Humane that have rescued many belgians may can help you. I do know that many of their one eyed horses adjust and don't need a pasture buddy just for theloss of one eye. Even blind horses can adapt. Please get in touch with HorsePlus Humane Society in Tennessee. They can help walk you through alot of what is involved in rescue and probably help you to get a grant. Tawnee and her husband Jason have been rescuing for years. They do auction rescues every month, have a full time vet on staff, and a wonderful group of both paid employees and volunteers. Your vets bills are so cheap compared to the UK! Luckily for you and your huge beautiful horses! I wish you well in your mission to stop this happening in USA, UK doesn't slaughter many horses per year now and the rules are so tight around health, transport and condition of horses going and the slaughter houses have big penalties for not keeping to the rules. I am amazed how many horses are heading to slaughter in the USA, on social media channels that don't have any meat on them to gain the cost of the fuel transporting them to Mexico and Canada. There never seems to be any accountability in America on the people who let the horses get and suffer in that sorry state! Here they'd be given suspended sentences, even jail, massive fines and banned from keeping horses again for life, same with dogs etc. I hope you go for an Animal Rights Bill and just don't stay on you tube, dragging in donations and never reporting the previous owners, auction houses, people selling these animals, like some youtube non profits. Go to congress and you will standout from all other youtube channels, if you get changes pushed through. Good luck to you! I hope you don't start rehoming and splitting your original herd up, I'd be heart broken!

Horse Plus Humane Society Rescue in Tennessee rescue and “ rehab” so many animals. Many of them are “ broken down big hoof horses”. They are given THE BEST CARE POSSIBLE. They could,& would be great people to help you with the “ ins and outs” with the wonderful rescue you all starting. I love to watch them, Horse Plus Horse Plus Vets, Horse Plus Humane Society, & other titles I am not thinking of at the moment. I wish you both great success with your rescue mission 🙏🏼

Julie I have been trying to pull up your website to donate towards the treatment of this poor horse you rescued but it keeps telling me that it can't reach that page. Any idea what could be wrong? I checked the spelling and it is all correct so I don't know what's going on. It just breaks my heart to hear about this beautiful soul having an eye injury and I am so impressed that you did not hesitate to save this horse from slaughter. What is being done to our horses is atrocious and heart breaking to me. I been following you guys since you started, I live in Texas down in Conroe and I have loved horses my entire live (in my 70es now) God bless all of you that have made the decision to help creatures that are in desperate need for help, saving them from cruel and unnecessary slaughter! @@FletcherFarmsAmarillo I have written letters to government officials over the years besides making phone calls to them as well, telling them to stop this unnecessary slaughter and downright abuse of our wild and domesticated horses, burros and mules! It just makes me sick and breaks my heart what is happening to them but it doesn’t seem to do any good, these politicians don’t care or give a rats rear end about any of it! They pat themselves on their backs for having outlawed the slaughter of horses in the US but yet continue to let these animals being sold for slaughter to Mexico and Canada which is disgusting and outrageous!

My grandfather being a farmer during WWII sold two 2 year old colts to a buyer. After the buyer loaded the colts, he took a punch to their eyes out since they were going to be used in coal mines. My grandfather immediately told the buyer never to stop at his farm again, you never treat animals that way. Can't imagine the pain those animals endured from that sick buyer.

Your Vet is amazing, but Texas A&M University Vet School may be able to help you with medical problems. You are doing God's work. Also Horse Plus, another You Tube channel, can give advice and grants. They have been doing this for a long time.

Horse plus humane rescue assists rescues on some medical procedures. They are the biggest horse rescue in the United States. They are located in Tennessee. They issue grants to help organizations.

Blind horses can still be ridden with the right circumstances Horse Plus rescue deals with blinds horses all the time. You can find their videos on utube

Yes, the grant program they had was for established foundations in business for over a year so we did not qualify. But I will reach out to them to see if they have some this else.

They just showed a video clip of the original land they bought 20 yrs ago and where they are with it today! They love helping other rescues and will help in ways besides the yearly grants…which you will qualify to enter soon!! You and your hubby are the best for these gorgeous animals!! And the donkeys🥹

I am not a fan of the Amish or Mennonite people. We have a number of them in our region. Cows are kept inside constantly so never see the light of day. Animals are used only for their convenience & then discarded, which means kill pens or auctions. And puppy mills are quite common. I don't know why our government doesn't do more about these people. They should have to follow laws just like the rest of us & not be allowed to hide behind their religion.

I have just had an eye removed from my 27 year old cob. He is doing great and it's only 3 weeks ago. Eye injury or illness in the eye is very very painful and sadly not all horses actually show how much pain they are in 😢
