It'll be interesting to see your PTR tests in the coming weeks and months where you don't hide what's being compared to what. It'll be also interesting to see how well the Flex rollout happens for the remainder of 2021. There's still tool availability throughout the year including Christmas and the repair and service info. Because tools break down how good will we be able to find and get service, repair parts, and service times? Time will tell. And we'll also see how well the other tool companies like Makita with their 40VMAX, or Milwaukee and Dewalt roll out whatever new tools they have planned this year. I use Dewalt for 20v and Bosch for 12v tools. A FLEX sales rep was at Lowe’s when I happened to be looking around at tools and had me sold. With the Lifetime warranty for anyone who buys the tools this year and registers them within 30 days is a no brainer for me. Been using them for nearly 2 weeks and notice how you don’t feel the tool vibration like you do with other tool brands. It’s more of a luxury tool and luxury tool feel.

There’s something I realized, you need to do a showdown on the flex hammer drill and impact driver against the dewalt power detect (hammer drill) and Milwaukee gen 3 brushless impact driver.

I lent my flex impact to a couple friends they actually framed a 1200 sq ft extension with them. No compressors no hoses they said they absolutely loved them. They built it in 7 days they were chilling 😎 they said it was very easy. From my experience the turbo impact really shine with lumber nothing can keep up except the mlwkee 2853. . . for interior commercial work nothing more comfortable & precise than makita xdt14 for driving self tappers & lightweight metal framing.

So Chervon got smart and rebranded the xtr kobalt line instead of trying to fix the kobalt name. Smart move that no one seems to have noticed. Batteries are the same, even the 24v text on the side is the same, just not in italics. And the recip saw is literally an XTR with the brace adjustment button moved. No hate, I run Red for work because of the expanded line of tools but I have XTR at home and it definitely sinks faster and harder. Guess we just gotta see what these new kobalt tools can do.

I'm a flex tool fan on the residential contractor and really like the tools but I have a problem now every time I go to Lowe's which I do everyday I noticed each week they have a too long clearance and it gets lower I bought it collated drywall screw gun originally it was 159 it was on sale for $79 so I bought a couple of them it would be $200 for the same dewalt gun. I want to Lowe's yesterday it was on clearance for $39. I bought for $399 the rear handle circular saw with the 10 amp battery. A few weeks ago they had it on clearance for $159 with the $280 w charger and a 10 amp battery The battery's worth $300 alone. I bought the tool sold the saw kept the battery. I'm just seeing more and more of these tools at Lowe's being on clearance really low it doesn't make me feel comfortable that they're basically being given away it makes me think combined tools that Lowe's doesn't want to sell anymore or is dropping the line they have a small display at Lowe's nothing big compared to dewalt or anybody else. It just plainly doesn't make me feel comfortable I don't mind buying them when they're really cheap and I have batteries and putting a $1,000 investment into these compared to my to my DeWalt investment that's tens of thousands of dollars. I'd like to buy the $249 tripod light but I won't spend that for it so I'm hoping that will go on clearance and then what I do is I buy a few of these tools each and it buy a lot of batteries and I just put them away. All I can tell you guys is go to Lowe's every Friday and see what they have on clearance and buy it. And the small print they have stuff that if you buy this tool you get this battery set or battery for free with it I bought the vacuum for $129 and it came with for free a 3.5 amp stack battery The stack battery is worth $179 do the math on that it doesn't work out right they're doing something to basically give their tools away to get people to buy them. Don't get me wrong I think that they're great tools but the downside of their tools are they're very heavy their batteries are really heavy. On some of the tools I use I wish they made a two amp battery or a 1.5 amp battery the 2.5 is even heavy it makes me go to my Milwaukee 12 volt tools and use it for amp battery and it's so much lighter. I will tell you this on the vacuum if you put a 2.5 volt battery on it it works good if you put a 10 amp battery on it it works like it's turbo or supercharged Good luck everybody I hope they stay around I'll keep buying the clear and stuff it just doesn't make me feel comfortable that two months earlier I bought it for full price or half the price and now it's at third the price oh nevertheless to say I bought a drywall cutter that's a little tool that's like a zip tool it's $99 I bought it on sale for $34 a couple weeks ago now they have it on clearance for $24 Go figure

You left out the two Flex tools I would actually buy (even though I have Milwaukee and Ridgid) the variable speed grinder and a 6 1/2 inch circular saw. A variable speed grinder seems so practical cutting and grinding everything from metal to masonry. And a 6 1/2 inch (In-line blade)circular saw with the same cutting depth of a 7 1/4 inch circular saw Would be so practical on the job site. Do you know how many times people refuse to use my Ridgid OCTANE saw because it was so big and heavy. Instead running an extension cord 10 feet in the air just to use a plug-in 6 1/4 inch circular saw.

I watched video about flex tools, done by another KZbinr. I won't mention their name. But he has a platform about the same size as yours, maybe slightly larger. But anyway, one of the first things he talked about was how he didn't feel that the tools were really geared towards pros, but that they "looked" & "felt" more like an "at home" tool line-up. But I must say that I don't agree with that, not at all. In my opinion the tools have a very good build quality, and seem extremely well put together. I also want to mention that the power they deliver, to me at least, is very impressive. I will say that the individual I'm referring to did also mention that he can't stand Lowe's, or something along those lines. Which I'm thinking may have skewed his overall opinion of the brand. Plus he didn't even have the tools in hand to do a review on, because in his words, he will never have flex tools on his show. Any way, thank you for what seemed to be a very honest and good review of these tools. Im definitely debating on switching to this lineup in the near future.

When you test these against Milwaukee, try using the high output batteries because they perform much better on those and I think the flex batts use the 21700 cells as well.

“1st generation tool”...Chervon bought the German FLEX brand 8 years ago. That company been making tools since 1922, and was renamed FLEX back in the 90’s. This is a different line of tools, but they didn’t just pluck it out of thin air.

It probably never caught on because it's not really practical, seeing as you're still grabbing the bit/shaft regardless and pulling the chuck and shaft as one smooth motion is obscenely easy with every major and most smaller brands anyways. Plus, it's another failure point. It's just smarter to use that spot for a light, or in the case of Makita's newest drivers, a quick setting button.

It's only because the collet sleeve design is absolute crap and vastly inferior to even the lower end Flex's collet, and genuinely hard as fuck to pull it and push in/pull out a bit/shaft. But it's useful this one time.

I think turbo mode buddy, is simply an upgrade of the battery, optimizing the power capabilities of the brushless motor that the flex tool has.

This is the comment I am posting everywhere possible: Bought this Flex pack out a few months ago. Used on three projects. The latches between the top box and the middle box kept hanging up or not locking. Soooo, tried to call company service to get a fix. Wasn't asking for anything but a tech to walk me through the fix(maybe a replacement latch?). First, good luck getting through, they DON"T answer their phones. After a half hour hold the message comes on offering a call back. No choice gotta grow old on the phone or give up. No call back, so the next day I try again, same deal, but this time I get a call back. Pleasant young lady hears the problem and takes all my info and says they are sending a new replacement unit!! Of course nothing took place, NO Replacement Unit, No Latches, NO NOTHING!!!! The product seems to be well made except for these few minor issues, however I would never recommend buying a Flex product. They have no customer loyalty. I no longer care to upgrade my tool platform to your products, as I was considering your power tool line. Not anymore.

Drill exact same holes all day long with my milwaukee fuel drill so not over impressed by that although do like the safety feature as nearly snapped my wrist up bad couple of times so that a bonus my concern would be size of flex as I'm used to squeezing my drill into awkward spaces wouldn't mind seeing a size comparison

@@gagejernigan5277 It is not about Lowe's, it is about the fact you can only buy it at Lowe's. DeWalt, Metabo HPT, etc, you can buy at a variety of stores. When you're a contractor on the job and need something, you're going to the closest store or to your independent local hardware store because it's the easiest and most convenient. You don't want to have to go online and check to see if a local Lowe's stores even carries what you want, then drive out your way past two other Lowe's to go to the one store that does.

Thanks for the show tonight guys! Enjoyed it. After watching the Flex roll-out on VCG it made me wonder why did they camouflage the other tools brands by painting them white? Why not show what other brand and model they were comparing their tools to? It sort of reminded me of those dumb Intel spots currently running on KZbin that go after Apple’s M1 chip. Instead of using actual Macs and iPads they use fake mock-ups! And overall that is how this felt to me, like Samsung going after iPhone “we are sooo much better” (not!). Competition is good, but the Flex prices are premium level and we know the big 3 brands are going to be having some awesome deals soon!

@@Protoolreviews I hope you guys do a real side-by-side test along with showing the specs compared to the top level DeWalt, Milwaukee, Makita and even Ryobi. To me there was a lot of hype going on and it all seemed a bit staged (the "other brand" guy didn't seem to push on the tools as hard as the "Flex" guy did). Also a lot of the specs are no better than other brands and in the case of the hammer drill, the same as Ryobi! (minus the "turbo" mode). Thank you as always!

Would you though? I get it they seem really good, but the pricing compared to fuel, and dewalts higher lines seems to be a bit more. Maybe they will come out with some deals, but the prices I saw at Lowe’s for their top line was up there. A buddy of mine just got the fuel recip fuel, 6 1/2 circ saw, gen 3 fuel hammer drill, gen 3 fuel impact driver, fuel jig saw, 2 5amp hour battery and the quick charger plus a work light for 699. And I’ve seen similar yellow and black bundles. I know flex is gonna have the lifetime founders warranty but I don’t know. At least with the established brands you know their track record. I think they should bring their pricing down a little if they really want to make a dent in this crowded competitive space

I would have had a lot more respect, and maybe interest in this brand had they come out of the gate being Honest. That's too bad, because they may actually be a introducing a decent tool. Heck, they do make great sanders/grinders and polishers. What I mean is that their introduction video was a major set up and they did not compare their tools to the appropriate competitors tools. On top of that, you could definitely see a difference in how the person using the tools were using the tools or holding back when using the competitors tools.

Plus they make a few claims that aren't quite true, like their angle grinder is the only one with variable speed, and their narrow saw is the only one that has blade line sights on both sides, when all circular saws have this feature.

I agree their initial ads have been a bit over the top aggressive and not feeling objectively honest, but historically that’s kind of been par for the course when it comes to power tool marketing. A lot of these brands play similar games, maybe they just get a bit more of a pass because they’re already popular? Or hopefully buyers are getting more scrutinizing and aren’t interested in that style of advertising anymore. That would be my preference.

Truth. I'm about to go out of brand for a new impact driver. I have mostly DeWalt tools but a few milwaukee tools and was going to go with gen 3.5 milwaukee fuel since I keep a M18 charger on the work van already and have a few batteries but the flex looks interesting. I'd like to see an unbiased comparison against the fuel and flex. The thought of having another brand charger on the van with the ones I already carry seems a bit of a turn off and all of this decision making would be unnecessary if dewalt updated with a new impact driver lol.

My xr with a 4amp with a socket adapter couldn't even get the lugs off my van. I was embarrassed. My compact driver drill stalls out with a 2 pound mixer put in the chuck - not even put into anything to mix yet

Some of their European stuff is available in the states like their dust extractors and drywall sanders. Oddly enough though those come in cheaper than Festool and Mirka but a new cordless line and they are marketing themselves as a pricier option on the top tier line anyways.

Flex this year is a fantastic deal. You get a lifetime warranty for all power tools, batteries and chargers. This is uncommon, to say the least. I would sway their way until December 31st. Any product registration after this year gets a 5 year warranty, which is still not bad. Long term? I don't know, it's hard for me to just wave goodbye to dewalt and milwaukee. We'll see.

What I have noticed with the big 3 is their quality control has gotten bad but that is what happens when you get big and lazy and rely on brand loyalist to continue to buy their products regardless just because of the name on the tool so I like the new competition that will force that to have better quality control.

I have to admit. They have a lot of tools coming out. When you look at Milwaukee, they release a teaser of a few tools before they actually release them and it's usually not easy to get them on whatever day they were supposed to come out. I am also NOT a fan of Home Depot when it comes to putting the stuff on the shelves because normally I just want it right away and sometimes it's hard to order them online as they flat out tell you it's out of stock. Chervon gives you an actual release date of the tools and now you can actually order them if you want them. For the most part, it appears that most of them are ready for order. IMO, Chervon handled it pretty well even though it still sucks to shop at Lowe's in store. I understand we are in pandemic, but I just feel Home Depot just flat out stinks now.

I get the hype over the Flex tools but they have been out in Europe forever and other major brands have competed fine against them. I cannot make myself leave my 18 volt Makita lineup for this. They used their premium tools against competitors mid range tools on their official intro to the USA which to me is messing with peoples money by not showing honest competition. Of course a Sub Compact Makita drill has less power than the full size XPH14 Makita model. Also people test these brand new Flex tools against competitors models that already have a lot of work behind them. Any mechanic or carpenter knows an impact wrench or impact driver will lose power after a year of hard use. My Ingersoll Rand has been rebuilt once because it was used all the time. I also oil it daily.

It's definitely going to be hefty and make the tool heavier. People don't mention very much that Flex is 6 volts higher than Milwaukee and Makita. I'm very impressed with the power I get from Makita and Milwaukee in the 18-volt platform and the tools are very compact.

It’s between 3.6 to 4 volts higher; either 21.6 vs 18 if going by nominal voltage or 24 vs 20 if going by Max. It’s one more cell in series so if everything else is equal Flex tools are getting a 20% power advantage in their batteries, but of course also 20% more cells per battery. This will help them out in power competitions but they’re entering a very competitive market. Hilti and Kobalt both already use this same 6-cell configuration and neither has been able to put much of a dent in against the “Big 3”.

@@kenshirogenjuro873 You are 100 percent correct sir. If you're going to try to take on Milwaukee's 18 volt line you're smarter to go with a higher voltage where you can still be considered compact. Milwaukee's tools are just very powerful and this is the only way that they could possibly have an edge.

Zip Zip, like butter, took no time at all! Absolutely love that you just push a button to change the blade, so quick and easy. I chose cordless because of all the outside projects I need to do, and most are too far to extend an extension cord to. Incredibly lightweight, and easy to handle. I will be using this all the time. There is a reason they call them Sawzalls , because they literally saw all the things you need cut. Once you buy one you'll kick yourself for not doing it sooner ~ Just make sure and buy the right blades for the job you want to tackle. The blades are not expensive, and there are lots of various multi-packs available.
