As a part of my journey to widen my perspective on all physical components of the human body, I want to experience as many activities as I can and interact with experienced and talented people around the world.
This is essential in order to develop a genuinely symmetrical understanding of all the factors that affect human performance and create the perfect training system that is balanced between scientific evidence and field-tested practices.
In this episode, I joint Eurodancers, the best cheerdance team in Switzerland, and also interviewed their leader on topics related to flexibility training. I hope you enjoy this episode!

Oh and the other thing, having watched the whole way thru: There is this tension around "what is a sport vs what is a performing art" I think anything that is judged by how good your form is is probably a performing art myself. This includes things like figure skating and gymnastics which are considered sports. If a judge has to use a rating system, it is an attempt to add points to the activity. Bodybuilding is interesting because it also is subjective. It would be nice if we could appreciate the movement of the activity as a performing art rather than need to rate for perfection. It can create unhealthy attitudes in a physical activity culture. Like perfectionism and eating disorders. But hockey is clearly a sport. How pretty your crossovers are doesn't matter as to who wins.
@otto3619
@otto3619 8 ай бұрын
How about boxing or most other combat sports? Clearly if you knock someone out your system would classify it as a sport. But if it's all up to the judges because no one got knocked out, then it would be a performance art.

this may be a lot to ask but i’ve been looking absolutely everywhere for a science based routine for morning and night to get back to being fully flexible that being having my splits hamstring flexibility upper body flexibility and hip mobility i really would appreciate it with durations/reps if you ever get the chance.
@dadapotok
@dadapotok 8 ай бұрын
Yannis has a relevant article published on his website. I suppose you have to either learn more to confidently customise existing routines or just catiously following any standard you get from the trusted source. Yannis sells a product called "side split 1.0", @calimove sells "mobility training" but they also have some videos and KZbin shorts on the morning routines, though begginner my struggle to follow them. @HybridCalisthenics has lots of free content and free routines but touches stretching only a little. Thing is - most calisthenics workouts trains your mobility and strength simultaneously.

Really cool to watch, also loved the ladies, ahem. Unfortunately I'm a lost cause when it comes to flexibility, I am the least flexible person I've met during my 48 years in life. Attempts to improve, even working on it for months, yielded very poor results. Not gonna age well I know.
@YiannisChristoulas
@YiannisChristoulas Жыл бұрын
Christos thanks for sharing this. Naturally inflexible people yield more results with active methods like the Contract Active and Passive Range. Your age is fine. This year I’ll have another 50 year old doing the side split. It’s just a matter of consistency on the right methods. You got this!

This is a good sampling of the population. There are 10 or more flexible females to 1 flexible male. Some say men are lazy and don't try, but I think it's biological. Our muscles are stiffer. Anyway, go Yiannis for representing the guys.

Sorry Yianis but these are young girls - no matter how flexible man gets even unfittest young girl or in fact any woman will be more flexible. Female joints are different. Female skin is different, female muscle and body composition is different - man doesn't stand a chance against women in this area. God bless
@vijayendranvijay457
@vijayendranvijay457 Жыл бұрын
Wrong. He already probably more flexible than 99% of women. You do not get as flexible as this without lots of training (unless you had some rare body condition). Even the director lady said so. Besides, there are many abnormally flexible men which no woman could be as flexible as.

@@vijayendranvijay457 The girls are doing it effortlessly while Yianis, is visibly in pain! Your 99% doesn't obviously include these girls - they're ALL more flexible by a mile. "... abnormally flexible men ..." - yes exactly - abnormal

My father is naturally much more flexible than me or my mom without trying. I'm sure there's probably an overall tendency towards flexibility in women, just like how men are generally taller than women, but there are short men and tall women- it's just a general tendency
@soundslight7754
@soundslight7754 Жыл бұрын
@@haleyalaym6231 Everything in our lives is based on statistics and probability. Pharmaceutical products, processed food, industrial processes, scientific studies and research to name a few. Your dad is one of exceptional men with such ability. There are also a few male contortionists around, but vast majority are females. If you look closely in ballet or ice skating, you see male and female type of moves and performances are very different. Yes, there is a tendency as you said, but the likelihood of female being more flexible in any demographic we look at is much higher. I maintain on balance of probability male flexibility isn't in par with female - much less. As a male myself, I wished world was fairer, but it is what it is.
