At that time, I was not translating the chapters anymore, I was just reading like everyone. But the page where Pain was standing in front of Iruka, I just chilled. If he killed him there, Naruto would never heal. I screamed when Kakashi saved him, only to realize Kakashi is not Jiraiya. He was also in a very lethal situation. Few weeks later, I rejoined the translating team for some motnhs (Until this arc was over). When "pain" came to Konoha later, I remember it was the golden week just before, so the most awaited chapter of the manga was delayed. Our japanese sources were delayed, of bad quality, pages out of order etc... it was like 5 times the usual work. People were harassing us in DM on the boards. But how boy did that chap delivered.

From all the Naruto arcs this one was the one that hit harder on me. The Pain invasion is something else. I remember being a full grown up (my early 20s) and start crying after "some stuff". No one is really safe in this direct attack, really no one. Common people, Children, Senseis, "main" characters or supporting characters. Anyone can die here. Kishimoto was really savage. My fav character was taken out in this arc 🥲. Get ready Flexie. This will be hard.

love how the whole PAIN invasion starts, a nice chill atmosphere at first and then BANG! its proper chaotic and the destruction is on full display :) props to Sakura for protecting the king :D Tsunade got to shine as well first by putting the elders in their place and then protecting the people via Katsuyu, she is a proper Hokage :) and then ofc there is Danzo who is just a rat xD Kakashi just being badass as per usual :) - the 6 Paths of Pain are based on the six Buddhist Paths of Reincarnation, each body was named after one of the different Paths: Deva, Asura, Human, Animal, Preta, and Naraka, here the Deva is the Yahiko body, Asura is the puppet guy, Human is the soul sucker, Animal is ofc the summoner, Preta is the guy who absorbs jutsu, and Naraka is the one who summons King of Hell - The King of Hell is based on Yama, known in Japan as Enma, the judge of the dead who rules over the Narakas (Hells or Purgatories) in Buddhism, he is said to preside over the cycle of Samsara, determining whether the dead will be revived into a positive realm or a negative realm upon their next reincarnation, him yanking out the souls here in a form of a tongue is a reference to a Japanese superstition used to scare children into telling the truth: "If you lie, Lord Enma will pull out your tongue" - each of these Paths, or realms, represents one of the realms a being is reborn into after death, determined by the accumulated karma of their past lives - while the two lower Paths, Preta and Naraka, are hellish, and the two higher Paths, Deva and Asura, are heavenly, all six are considered to be Paths of suffering because they perpetuate the cycle of Reincarnation; the only way to break it and ascend to a higher state of existence is to attain enlightenment

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas! I have been really distracted by the holiday but it is great to watch your videos again. I wish I could be closer with your community but because of a bad virus experience I am always hesitant to go to websites other than KZbin. I don’t expect a response on every comment I make but I hope I am still considered a part of your community. You said you didn’t know anything about Danzo but believe it or not 1 of the 1st things said about him was that when the 3rd Hokage was chosen he came in second place! And according to “Tobi” the 3rd, Danzo and the other 2 were the only ones who knew the truth about Itachi. I dislike all 3 elders but Danzo is the only 1 that was completely out of line in this 1 case. I agree that we should believe in Naruto and should see him as more than just a Jinjuriki. However, there was some major risks that shouldn’t have been ignored. It was stated specifically that Akatski already had most of the Tailed Beasts. If an enemy already has most of the nuclear launch codes bringing Naruto back is the equivalentnt of bringing the last of the codes right within enemy reach. There was also the matter that they don’t know how far Naruto’s training has come a month ago Naruto would still have been hot headed and wouldn’t hesitate to charge into battle with the guy who killed Jiraya but would have been beat in a minute. Also It is not compeletely unrealistic that Naruto would willingly trade himself if it was the only way to save a friend. That said Naruto has accomplished enough that people should take his value as a ninja into closer consideration which the elders weren’t doing at all until Tsunade gave them a scolding. I also like how you said that the elders were feeling shame; they have done bad things in the past but they do have shame. Danzo is the only 1 who has no shame! Jiraya was very important to Naruto but I think Iruka and maybe Kakashi were more like responsible fathers to Naruto and Jiraya was more like the irresponsible uncle or grandpa especially considering how he never met Naruto for the 1st 12 years despite having named him. I remember back in OG Naruto how you were constantly complaining about the village’s bad security and it was hard for me not to spoil all this security that actually had but Orochimaru and Itachi specifically were among the very few who knew how to get past all the secrets undetected.
