I remember when one person got chicken pox the parents would get all of the kids together and have a chicken pox party. This was to get everyone exposed to it and, hopefully, everyone would get it and then be set for life because you usually can only get chicken pox once in your life. We also drank out of the hose and had to go outside to play and not come back in until the street lights came on.

So when I was introduced to George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Redd Foxx, etc., we did not have the videos to watch the comedian. I would go to someone's house who had the album, and we would listen to the routine. Our minds had to fill in the image of the person or the scenario that they were conveying, which became more detailed with every listen. The old Cheech and Chong albums were quite good at building the image of the scene. When the videos became readily available, it was like frosting on a cake (like George's facial expressions). They were completed!! Thank you for this reaction and I look forward to seeing more comedy reactions!

George is absolutely right to how we built up our "immune system" back in the day by the way we did things & played outside as kid's, no bout a doubt it my friend's. Most of the time our mom's beat our azz beat for messing up our clothes by doing it. But in the long run it made it was all worth it looking back at it all now today for sure. Digging in the dirt, playing football in the mud, swimming in slimy creeks, diving off ledges into lakes & quarries, etc... was just apart of life & what we did for fun. And I still wouldn't change a thing or trade those good times day's for nothing. You 2 have a great show going on here that's quite special whether you know it or not. IDK about anyone else but I see a genuine insight on both ends of the generational gap, young & old(er). 😜 Not only the respect you have for each other's opinions but you've built a true chemistry between you together which is pretty cool to see, bravo! Keep on keeping on & keep your head up, ya dig? +Peace & Rock n' Roll 4 Your Souls My Friends+ 🤘😉🤘

When I was a kid (gen X here too) we used to have chicken pox parties. One of my cousins came home from school with chicken pox - all of us (cousins) went to stay at granny's house (she had the biggest house) until we all caught it. It didn't have to be a relative either - if a kid in the neighborhood came down with mumps, measles, or chicken pox, the neighborhood kids would go "play" with them so they could get it and get it over with. Fun times.

Rest in peace George. I had the pleasure of seeing George back in 1979 and 1980 at a little dinner club. For around $20 bucks you got a choice of a couple different meals and tickets to the show. I think my 1st taste of George was his album "Toledo Window Box" in the early seventies. I think that special was from the mid eighties, one of many on HBO.

Saw Carlin live in Tahoe in '86. What a show, what a treasure. His bits are so funny because they are about REAL stuff. Honest and true, just put in a comic light. OK, Burch. Now start her at the beginning. "Al Sleet, the Hippy-Dippy Weatherman" is the 1st character I remember well. Or his album, "AM-FM". Something more cerebral would be Steven Wright.

Gen Xer here too. The garden hose always was the coldest, tastiest water, we would regularly, somehow end up with mud in our mouths,......(tastes different than our mud at home). We rode our bikes (after our chores were done, first thing in the morning) all day, as far as we could go. Our play area was about 10 square miles, as long as we rode home before dinner. Of course, I still got my measels, diptheria, mumps, TB tests, German measels, and polio vaccines, plus it was mandatory that we all take our flouride tablet everyday of kindergarten. All the teachers had decorative paddles hanging on the wall by their desks with implied consent for it's use when needed. BB guns were popular items for "show and tell", teachers would allow students to "fight it out, a bit" before interceding. Our tolerance for rigorous activity physically and mentally was stronger, and bullies were something we all had to correct ourselves, as a rite of passage, a stage in growing up. All this bred independence and inspiration into our everyday lives. Anti depressants really started in the 90s, after litigation sensitized our schools. .............going to school with a foot of snow, and still snowing...waking at 4:30am to do your chores (without being told) ..........those were the days.

when i was five or six my parents took me to a "chicken pox party". yes, apparently a kid in the neighborhood had the pox so myself and other youngsters were told, get it now while your young 'cause if you get it later in life....? that would be horrible. i'm talking party hats, noise makers, cake and ice cream, pin the tail on the donkey, door prizes, the whole nine yards. we were encouraged to share the noise makers, spoons, bowls, etc. etc., and get as close to everybody as you could. sure nuff, i got the pox. just a mild case. maybe just twenty or thirty poxes, maybe forty, over my entire body but manageable. and low and behold, the following weekend the party was at my house. a whole new set of friends that were not at the first party, some that were but had made it out pox-free. when it came time for my younger brother to attend such a party, i went with him. call me a party animal, but i was told/knew that you can only get it once. so i went out of my way to ensure Stu got it. and boy did he! could not tell if it is was one pox or three. his entire body was poxes. man he was suffering. i felt bad 'cause..... well, i made sure he had gotten it. but he survived and is doing quite well today. that was 50+ years ago. perhaps i shoul attend a "shingles party"???????? lol
