The woman in the video is Carla DeVito, but that's not her voice. That's Ellen Foley. She did the original recording, but couldn't go on the tour because she was already on contract to appear as a regular on the TV show Night Court. Carla actually did sing out on the tour, but this whole production was just for the video so they went with the song as people knew it. All of the songs by Meatloaf were written by Jim Steinman who plays piano in them. Jim and Meat both passed away within months of each other, may they truly find the peace in rest that was so elusive in life. This particular album literally doesn't have a single bad song on it and is one of the best selling albums of all time. The songs Bat Out Of Hell, Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad and Heaven Can Wait are particularly masterpieces. However, the crown jewel of the album is For Crying Out Loud... perhaps the single greatest love song ever written

Oh how things changed from really wanting her to praying for the end time just in the length of one song. Oh, those teenage hormones, lol. Meatloaf, birth name: Marvin Lee Aday, “I got it when I was four days old ― not the ‘Loaf’ part, just the ‘Meat,’” he says. Born in Texas, Meat Loaf says his father was the one responsible for coming up with the first part of his moniker. “I was born bright red, so the doctor suggested that they should keep me in the hospital for a few days. My dad actually spoke like this...” Meat Loaf says, switching to a deep Southern accent. “’So, uh, I want you to name my son there ― because he looks like nine-and-a-half pounds of ground chuck ― I want you to put a name tag on the front of that plastic crib and it say ‘Meat’ on it.’” The hospital staff complied. “They stuck that printed card [that] said ‘Meat,’ and that was it,” Meat Loaf says. The second half of his stage name came when Meat Loaf, a sizable teen football player, was in eighth grade. “I stepped on a coach’s foot and he screamed, ‘Get off my foot, you hunk of meat loaf!’” he says.

The entire album was written and produced by Jim Steinman, who had a background in musical theatre. He wanted to write a rock opera, like Tommy, and this was originally part of the story. Meat had recorded a couple of albums before this that didn't go very far, and Jim picked Meat, in part, because of his musical theatre background. They caught lightning in a bottle and this was the best album either of them ever produced, up until BOoH II. The play-by-play for the ball game was done by baseball Hall of Fame broadcaster Phil Rizzuto, who broadcast games for the New York Yankees on radio. It's not taken from an actual baseball game, though. Jim told him what he wanted, how long he needed it to be, and Phil went in the vocal booth and did it off the top of his head.

Micheal Lee Aday - AKA "Meatloaf" was a husky boy growing up... supposedly his father nicknamed him Meatloaf for his size. He got into musical theatre in college and was actually good enough to earn a part in the Broadway production of the 1970's rock anthem, HAIR. He was an incredible theatrical presence and could belt out very complicated lyrics and songs... he earned a role in the ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW and would split his time between acting and music. For a while there, Meatloaf (the band) was considered one of the LOUDEST performing bands in the world (to the point where Michael was visibly seen bleeding from his ears on stage). It wasn't long thereafter that the lines between the BAND Meatloaf and Michael's identity as the SINGER Meatloaf started blurring and Michael would just stop being called by his real name and people would start calling him Meat Loaf (Mr. Loaf, as it were). He would continue performing and acting throughout his lifetime... appearing on the TV reality show, The Apprentice and in the film Fight Club. His performance style is often referred to as "Rock Opera" with incredible theatrics on stage and in his music videos. Personally, I *love* his entire body of work ... there's a certain sad tragedy to many of his songs which reflected his own personal demons ... he always felt like he never measured up, he wasn't good enough to be a "star" - and his self doubts caused him great psychological turmoil (at one point, he couldn't even perform anymore because his vocal cords would lock up - and it turned out, he was mentally blocking his own performances because he didn't think he deserved the love and adulation he was receiving on stage)* *From a VH1 interview and biography I saw on his life He's got SO many great songs... I've spent DAYS listening to them over & over.

When this came out, albums didn't always include the lyrics, and mine didn't have them. Some singers were not easy to comprehend, so it was more about the arrangement of the music and whatever lyrics you could decipher. The title and cover gave parents fits. He's been referred to as the Godfather of Rock'n Roll.... very much adjacent to Queen/Joel. During one of the first times I stayed at my Dad's house (for an entire summer) so he could get to know me, realized I liked Queen, and asked if I liked musicals. He nearly flipped when I pulled out my jean backpack and dumped a decade's worth of cassette tapes and walkman and most of my music was RHPS, Queen, Phantom of the Opera, Elton John and MJ, he turned about-face and walked away without saying a word. I thought I insulted him, or maybe he just hated the theater. I was suddenly a bit self-conscious about my music collection. I was 11 or 12, with spiked hair and ripped jeans, and about as graceful as salmon going upstream.... I had very little "cool" in me, as my original Milli-Vanilli tape can attest to. A minite or two (and a puddle of nervous sweat later), my Dad comes back in the room and hands me this cassette with this guy on a demonic-looking motorcycle, with a big old grin on his silly face, and urged me to give this a shot. I was INSTANTLY HOOKED... and later raised my daughter on Meatloaf. She can hear a few lines of any song and know which one I was listening to when I turned the car off last time. Now (like Battlestar Galactica) it's just required listening... not gonna sit on my couch and havent appreciated even ONE part of it.... it's a damn shame to be standing for quite so long. 🤣 ... if people only realiized how serious I am about it! 🤣 But Loaf....has a completely separate place in my heart. His passing hit hard.
