@FalconRadFPV2 жыл бұрын
The Rad Li-ion build? It should be fairly tough but you should consider learning on something a bit lighter. The heavier a quad is the more money it costs to repair after a bad crash. A light crash, no worries. But if you are new a 3" - 5" build can really take a beating if made well. So can a 6 or 7" but only with a small battery. As soon as you strap 600+ grams of battery on top it will damage the gopro or whatever else when it crashes. If you're set on building a 7" don't let me stop you, just know you better spend a bunch of hours on an FPV sim before flying the real thing. Everyone usually smashes up one or two quads at least while learning to fly. Sim time early on can help minimize it. Its just tough to get a hang of at first, then it gets more fun!

Hope it works well but time will tell.

Amazing footage and great advice commenting during the flight. I have been wanting to dabble in long range since I live near Yosemite. Love how you post the go pro, analog, and self portrait in this video. What kind of antennas are you using on your goggles? I see no more omni. Probably best to keep both directional. thats a cool spot, awesome pools at the top, which is where my pulse starts to hit the rev limiter hehehe. anybody who has tried to fly a half mile away knows that build in tension, i've actually hurt my neck trying not to move when i'm far away lolol. having a spotter like this would help so much, its always such a surprise when you actually see the topography up close, its never what you think and adjusting to the new reality is a lot to do on the fly....... i will hand myself into the pun police immediately hehehe
@FalconRadFPV3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Well said "its never what you think and adjusting to the new reality is a lot to do on the fly". The change in perspective as well as the added difficulty in assessing scale and speed since the surroundings are constantly different. It's hard to show in a video.
@minkorrh Жыл бұрын
Have you changed over to ELRS yet? I found that Crossfire was crap in comparison where range was concerned. I initially flashed my R9 stuff to ELRS and have been contemplating going to 2.4 ghz due to how cheap the receivers are (I have 23 quads) but I'm more interested in long range, so I think I'll keep the 915mhz stuff. So glad I found your channel. Lots to enjoy and knowledge to absorb. Thank you.
@FalconRadFPV Жыл бұрын
I haven't had a failsafe on crossfire in about 2 years. So I'm happy sticking with the gear I already have. I'm loving the 915 for long range, it always out does my video which is what you want.

Amazing again, is this doable with DJI AU as well? thx for sharing!
@FalconRadFPV3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I think the air unit will get the same ranges. only downside is when you lose video with dji I've heard that it takes awhile to come back. With analog it comes back instantly when you have signal again.
@Alejandro3883 жыл бұрын
@@FalconRadFPV i think the sheer jump in quality with DJI would be well worth it, especially in such scenic locations that you are lucky to fly in! With DJI you loose video quality very gradually, not abrubtly like with analog, so you kinda develop the sense of when it's "too deep" and just bounce back, or pull on a throttle and climb up straight up, and then issue RTH. There are many options, really, i think you're brave enough to give DJI a good try :)
@alexanderfpv66553 жыл бұрын
That got my heart pumping. Do you make a mental map with binoculars before you start? That bit where you checked the secondary-line from the top with respect to your LOS was a great tip.
@FalconRadFPV3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! In this case the "3d map" to have memorized was clear and straight forward enough that I can just look at it for several minutes and memorize the major features as I discuss route options with my spotter before any flights. For more complicated flights we will sometimes make up more detailed flight plans. I'll eventually get a video done about that. I've tried a few times, but it's hard to get on video nicely. It's usually 20 min of back and forth and getting side tracked, getting over being anxious, talking about the flight plan again, etc.... One of these times it'll work out.
@douglasshackett87473 жыл бұрын
NICE!!! love the adrenaline... How long did it take to calm your nerves for the next flight?
@FalconRadFPV3 жыл бұрын
It's usually about 20 to 30 min between flights. I'd like to get them done faster for more consistent lighting between videos but I need that much time to chill out between flights.
@cold-frontin_penguin7902 Жыл бұрын
I noticed how your transmitter antenna is oriented. Is that how we should be positioning ours? I have the elrs one that looks similar
@FalconRadFPV Жыл бұрын
It depends how your RX antenna in mounted. Whatever position the RX antenna on your quad is, your TX antenna should be the same. Many freestyle pilots have the antenna horizontal because it makes them more durable and at 500 meters or less you don't really have to worry about antenna nulls so much, unless you have a concrete wall between you and the quad it probably won't be an issue. I use a diversity RX so it has two antennas. I mount one vertical and one horizontal, this way no matter what orientation the quad is in there will always be a vertically polarized antenna. It's more of a concern at farther distances. Once you get to 5 or 6 km out if you point the null end of the antenna towards yourself the signal will drop quite a bit. Having a second antenna in a different orientation helps to reduce the RSSI drop in such a situation. Using a diversity RX is not necessary for many peoples uses, but for long range it helps provide a little extra reassurance that the TX RX connection stay's reliable.

Countersunk, button head, or cap head?!!! Which better?
@EnglishTurbines3 жыл бұрын
Button heads, of course...🤔😳😀🇬🇧
@FalconRadFPV3 жыл бұрын
I go with countersunk. Less chance of damaging the battery that way. I use Velcro under the battery. If you use ummagrip or something like that then you could also use button head. The countersunk on the underside also helps avoid damaging the fasteners if you land on rocks. The two builds of it that I'm flying both have countersunk fasters.
@EnglishTurbines3 жыл бұрын
@@FalconRadFPV I suggest button heads because countersunk stress out the carbon sheet as you tighten them. Okay on metal, not so much on a laminate...🤔😳🇬🇧

@FalconRadFPV3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. If I had to guess, if you are using 6s1p you will get about the same possibly a bit less. With 6s2p you will probably get a little more as long as you are easy on the throttle.
@orfilms15973 жыл бұрын
I like the commentary a lot. I noticed that you were flying with a lipo instead of the regular lion. Why is that?
@FalconRadFPV3 жыл бұрын
I warmed up with the lipo (less capacity) then did the next couple of flights with li-ion packs. My intension on the first flight is not to go for the top more just to get familiar with the surroundings. This "warmup" went much further out than I normally would on the first pack. I was feeling comfortable though and for my experience it was an easy flight.
