I think that whomever noticed the alcohol and initiated the look into the crew member, absolutely did the right thing. I’d much rather be rebooked for another flight, than fly with crew under the influence.

As it's from the UK Delta also probably had to compensate every passenger £520 for the delay, as I can imagine most would be delayed more than 4 hours. I wonder if they'll try and get the £200-300k back from the crew member, that would be one hell of a lawsuit!

Zero tolerance for operating such a complex machine with so many lives at stake. No matter how many hours you have in the air or how comfortable you are with the controls, when you let your guard down is right when disaster rears its ugly head. That includes sleep deprivation too.

The problem is a drunk pilot actually was able to get his pilots license back. His name is Lyle Prouse and I think it’s criminal they ever allowed him to be back in the cockpit. I don’t care if he was an alcoholic because he endangered many people and probably many times before he got caught.

Finally a story about a crew member being held accountable for their actions. The pilot should be fired as he put the safety of the aircraft, crew and passengers lives at risk. Not to mention the possibility of injury or worse to people on the ground as well as potential property damages.

Lawrence Russell Jr, 62, appeared in private in connection with the allegation at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday afternoon. Mr Russell had been arrested at the city’s airport at around 10am last Friday afternoon after police believed he had broken the law. Mr Russell, of Georgia, USA, made no plea to a charge that he breached section 93 (1) of the Railways and Transport Safety Act 2003.

Is alcohol test mandatory for pilots before flight or was this just an "accidental" case ? If not mandatory we can probably say that the safety of flight is left to the "good behaviour" of the entire crew....a good news.
