And another epic flight in the books! The aviation community is fortunate to have a number of talented creators who produce lots of really good content. But for my money - not that I have to spend any money - none are more enjoyable than the videos you produce, Stef. Many thanks for for sharing your adventure in the Australian Outback!

Hey Stef, had to chuckle to myself during your intro, you described perfectly the life of an airline pilot, BTW really enjoy watching your vids, very refreshing.

Hey Stef what percentage do you reckon you hand flew during the whole trip? Some of the long vfr legs would of tempted me to drop down and take a closer look at some of the scenery. P.S. I am going to be rude and request a ball park cost for the trip when it’s done, great work safe flight on the last leg home.

Steph, I’m working my way through all of your videos and I’m enjoying every minute. I’m a new VFR pilot and I own an SR20. I’ve learned a lot from watching your videos and your skill with editing is top shelf. I’m inspired on many levels! Happy flying.

Nice one Stef , I always zoom out on the map when I load a flight plan just to make sure I,m not going somewhere I shouldnt be .. I hear you when you say your brain needs a rest sometimes during a big trip like the one your doing , I think I could handle the flying but if I was to do a trip like that in the USA , my wallet would never survive !!!!!!!!!! ... keep up the good work .. thanks for taking us along ..

Been watching keenly as you have inspired me to do a similar trip in a couple of weeks time with my son Max age 9 to show him the Australian outback in our jabiru j200. Shepparton, broken hill, Coober Pedy, Ayres rock, mt dare, Birdsville,the dig tree, then south again via broken hill to Shepparton. Keep up the great work. Any advice on how you do such great edits too would be fantastic.

This was taught to me by my then Instructor (a former R.A.A.F. Instructor Pilot) and later my C.F.I. for my CPL..... Three things useless to a pilot; 1. Runway behind you. 2. Airspace above you. 3. Fuel in the bowser. Also, if you remember the phrase...."There are old pilots and bold pilots, but there are NO old, bold pilots.", you will fly safely.

Nice video once again. It’s interesting to see the difference between the areas of Victoria we consider dry and barren such as the Mallee to the vast outback regions like Uluru.

Very interesting. 👍 So how much would a typical flight segment, such as the one in this video, cost in fuel? 🤔

Another great episode Stef. One thing I learned from your trip is that Australia is RED ! I didn't know that. Happy landings on the last leg. Best wishes from the Netherlands.

"Map idiot check," you did say you were brain tired. An error like this is probably what caused the Russian shoot-down of Korean 007 in 1983. A close friend of mine was supposed to be on the flight but couldn't get to the airport in time. All his work colleagues were on board. This brought back memories, my friend was so traumatized. You've done a LOT of flying on this trip. That's a very nice little airplane you've got.

Hi Stef, seems your too busy to answer any questions.on here just now, Some of us like myself are curious, about how you can afford this . Have you got a video or can , give us a link , if it exists about yourself, for ex ,your line of work, do you lease, own the plane, or are you perhaps from a wealthy background. etc etc. Your very lucky and also seem a smart safe Pilot. Appreciate putting something on here when youve got time.

Surprising to see what appeared to be a commercial flight taking off at Broken Hill - isn't that an uncontrolled field? I guess I'm not used to that in the US... Sad to see the journey is almost over, but I know you are exhausted and will be happy to sleep in your own bed. Thanks for sharing the journey with us.
@100chrisb6 жыл бұрын
We fly jets into non controlled airports in Australia Ben. It's a bit different to over there!
@marsgal426 жыл бұрын
We have commercial flights (mainly turboprops) at uncontrolled airports in Canada too. Many such airports have a ground station that dispenses information ("Mandatory Frequency") to coordinate traffic. Local examples include Nanaimo (CYCD), Kamloops (CYKA) and Penticton (CYYF).
@High_Alpha6 жыл бұрын
Good PSA! The other way (and the way I do it... Shamelessly stolen from airline crews) is to check the legs page of the GPS after entry against the flight plans... Specifically tracks and distances should match. I've also once seen someone get the wrong place into the flight plan... Back in the PC flight planning days. Pilot intended to plan WAREN (near Melbourne... Actually the suburb of Narre Warren hence the name) but had just selected the first one that popped up on the software which was actually Warren aerodrome in NSW. Like your faux pas... A rather major difference in track!
@High_Alpha6 жыл бұрын
Also American podcaster Steve Tupper of the Airspeed podcast once input direct to PTK which would be the usual convention when giving the VOR an identifier (dropping the leading K from KPTK which is Oakland Country Intl Airport in Pontiac Michigan)... Turns out the VOR at Pontiac is PSI not PTK... putting in PTK gives you Pyeongtaek VOR in South Korea! On his instrument rating checkride no less. And the now infamous audio (which he shared unedited as a learning point like you did in this video) of the controller saying "Zero Tango Alpha, you taking the scenic route to Pontiac?". That audio still features in his intro.

Whilst it would have been easily doable in the aircraft, I a) wanted to stop in Bendigo because I enjoy visiting there and b) there were a few personal (non-aviation) logistical reasons why I had to delay my arrival in Melbourne.

I've been following your trip on flightradar 24, I figured the parts were there was a loss of signal tracking were the black lines, but I was surprised that there were so many of them. I know we're a remote nation, but it's the 21st century right? Also, why does Fr24 show a Bombardier CRJ-200ER reg with VH-KJN. That would have made for a much faster trip? Haha
