How incredible to have these kinds of RC Models today! I haven't flown for better than 20 years and still have my old radios and aircraft plus a slew of (some) new glow powered engines in the box but I'd have NEVER guessed that the hobby would come this far! Heck, even the electric powered airplanes of my day were archaic by comparison and had nowhere NEAR the endurance or capacity of today's technology. In a word: INCONCEIVABLE!! Thanks for the video. Thanks for the review. I got some issues with mine (biggest one is aileron movement during transition which will make the V-22 role and crash). One big issue is CG. With a 3S 800 there is not chance to geht proper CG. I need a 3S 1300 (!!!) to get recommended CG.
@Thercgeek4 жыл бұрын
I can't say that was the experience I had with this one. CG with the battery all the way forward seemed to work out perfectly. As long as you've got it in the right place, you should be good to go with the 1300 and you'll get a nice boost in flight time too.
@Schaumwaffelflieger94 жыл бұрын
@@Thercgeek Thx for feedback. But may I mention that in your video here ... kzbin.info/www/bejne/r3KZk5-gfphmqMk at 0:13 I can see that the ailerons (at least the right one) are deflected. Same at 0:21. I thought in the copter mode the ailerons are always neutral. I really hesitate to start with this issue as I hear and read so much about crashed V-22 all with the same issue (rolling on the back during transition). And it is possible that flight time in copter mode only is extremely short (about 2:30 with 3S 800)?

Hey Chris, I have over a dozen Heli's, Planes, Quads and a few Convergence VTOL's and I know how to set up Dual Rates on all of them fine except for this Eflite V-22 Osprey. Their is no documentation I can find other than the value table in the manual (100% / 70%) and my problem is I can't get any Dual Rate Changes in either Forward flight mode Stability or Acro. Why is that - what Dual Rate changes should be observed.
@Thercgeek4 жыл бұрын
The rates are a little quirky on this one. If I remember right, it doesn’t actually change the max deflection but rather the relationship between the point at which the max rate occurs to the stick position. I make reference to that in the vid I think, but at 100% the max deflection will occur at an earlier stick position than the 70%. So maybe check if that’s occurring between the two. The 100% and 70% actually do work really well.
@markbowman76134 жыл бұрын
Update, I found your post on Flight Controls on the V-22 Osprey (Flight Review -- E-Flite V-22 Osprey VTOL (487mm), and you state the control surface travel distance does Not vary when Dual Rates are applied, but just the speed of the surface control changes (slower for 70% vs 100%). Is the speed change perceptible? I don't see any difference, or is it just something you feel when flying it?? Thanks
@cat22planes5 жыл бұрын
Two questions Chris, 1: Approximate flight time in the two modes? 2: I have 1k and 1.2k packs. Have you tried any heavier packs than recommended? Thanks you for the review.
@Thercgeek5 жыл бұрын
I've only flown it with the 850mah packs and it gives me 4-5 minutes. It's much more efficient in aircraft mode than hover mode, so I could probably extend that, but haven't really played with the flight time that much otherwise. So long as the CG works out, the larger capacities should work fine, though it will be heavier which could workout to be a wash in the hover mode based on the additional thrust required to carry the additional weight. If you've got the packs already, might as well give them a go!

@whoknows86785 жыл бұрын
@2:35 it's actually vectored thrust with yaw that allows you to steer it since the nacelles move fore/aft and change the direction (vector) of thrust. Roll is accomplished by differential thrust achieved through dissymmetry of lift around the longitudinal axis by varying the front motor speeds. You're an aero engineer, right? :)
@Thercgeek5 жыл бұрын
You're right, I miss stated that. I was thinking nacelles forward for some reason when I made that statement which is asymmetric thrust for yaw.
@whoknows86785 жыл бұрын
@@Thercgeek Actually, nacelles forward (elevator input) wouldn't be asymmetric thrust, either. The thrust from each motor remains the same. The DIRECTION of the thrust vector(s) is what changes. Opposite nacelle rotation for yaw or both nacelles forward the same amount for elevator control would be differential thrust. Asymmetric thrust would cause the model to roll as if it were aileron input.
@Thercgeek5 жыл бұрын
Correct for the hover configuration. In my comment I was actually talking about the forward flight configuration with nacelles all the way forward, not the hover configuration with a forward elevator input. When in the forward flight configuration, the rotors are throttled deferentially to yaw the airplane while the ailerons act to roll the airplane. So a yaw input results in the inside rotor reducing speed and the outside rotor increasing speed (depending on throttle position) to create an asymmetric/differential thrust which then yaws the nose.
@whoknows86785 жыл бұрын
@@Thercgeek Ah, okay. I thought you meant in hover mode since that's what we'd been talking about, to include what you said in the video that started this thread. LOL
@antonycaddick21315 жыл бұрын
my friend at the field had a eflite convergence and it proved to be problematic, flipping into safe mode without warning,never took off the same way twice in the hover,and almost flipping, and other things, until eventually it was write off when a motor quit in the hover and it nose dived into the ground,which was probably a good thing as it stopped the pain and the suffering that he endured whilst messing about with it,,the thing is,it looks like the same kind of technology setup, im wondering if it will have the same niggles as the convergence,
@Thercgeek5 жыл бұрын
The only issue I had was related to the clocking of the nacelles. The Osprey has otherwise been quite reliable. I've never flown the convergence, so can't really provide a comparison otherwise.

@Thercgeek5 жыл бұрын
I'm using a powerlabs duo charger (kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2m4hYJjqpmfaNE). In this case, it's not so much about the charger but rather the charge lead. Most chargers will adapt to any lead that you make. So, my recommendation would be to get a charger that has interchangeable charge leads vs just a dedicated jst type charger. The spektrum smart chargers aren't a bad way to go for something like that. They're not high power, but you don't need a high power charger for the smaller capacity and cell count packs.

Yeah, it's still going strong. I haven't flown it in a while, but I've not really had any issues with it since I've had it. Only had one weird transition on the first flight, but that sorted out when I re-clocked the nacelles to ensure they were the same.

@@Thercgeek I know. The first one I had was super stable and locked on in multi-rotor mode. I loved flying it inside and having a lot of tiled area made it fun with rolling takeoffs and landings. But, the very first time I took it to the field and hit that transition switch to airplane ACRO mode after letting it settle down in airplane stability mode...no bueno... I was in a mild turn at about 3/4 throttle with plenty of power and airspeed on the model. Nothing crazy at all and it just up and decided to make an immediate 90 degree turn straight into the ground. It was like it got smacked out of the air. The second one had an issue with the rear motor spooling up uncommanded on the ground. If I didn't hit throttle cut, it would have flipped nose over. That's an insta-crash in flight. The third one had the elevator waving at me. No matter what I did (new model memory, re-binding, etc) would stop the elevator from slowly going full up to full down over and over again. I didn't even try to hover that one before sending it back. I really wish Horizon would get their shit in one sock with this model because they'd sell even zillions more. It could be an all time best seller for them. After all, who doesn't want a cute little foam V-22 that only costs a couple hundred bucks? LOL
