Flown in SUB-BWN-BKK vv in Y. Lovely crew and good food taste (for catering that are supplied by Royal Brunei Catering from BWN). The only downside is the lack of food variation (The food menu is the same for BWN-BKK and BWN-SUB at the day after tomorrow) and also BWN airport is lacking restaurants in transit area

Brit here, been living in Brunei 13 years and coming here for over 20. The airline has just won a prestigious award : the best cabin crew in the world. The cabin crews are very well-trained, always friendly and professional. While fares have risen across the board, RBA is still good value. Yes budget airlines are available, but the flying experience is pretty miserable! Leg-room on all RBA aircraft is the best I've ever known, for any airline. Food has always been the best of any airline. As for portion size...well, I've never had a problem with that, always seemed to be plenty for me. As for a second meal, that's a bit unlikely on a 7-hour flight, especially when it only had 10 passengers! That flight was a massive Loss for the airline. They DO give several meals on the flight to London and they DO still stop at Dubai, for refueling, usually for around 90 minutes or so. The fleet comprises of 12 aircraft, all less than ten years old: the RBA Fleet is among the newest in S.E Asia. Brunei itself is very welcoming, the people very friendly, kind and helpful. There is almost no crime and pretty much everyone speaks English (the schools do their lessons in English - Brunei used to be a British Colony until 1984). Flight Reviewer Josh Cahill has flown on RBA a few times and has even stayed in Brunei. The country is not really geared for tourist however, being a very small country - there are only 70 Taxi's in the whole country! Cafes and restaurants are inexpensive and the food is excellent. Don't be deceived by anti-islam Western news reports of a moderate Islamic state such as Brunei: this country is safe and welcoming to everyone. Alcohol IS available in some hotel bars, usually for Westerners. Cigarettes however, ARE banned and are not on open sale!

Thanks . I have not travelled overseas for over 5 years and am thinking of travelling to SE Asia next year , starting with Brunei . The country's airline seems a great way to start a holiday !

Great report! You mentioned the small size of the meal, true, but it is still more than what you receive in Qantas economy (which is supposed to be a major player in this region)

Flew with this airline back in Jan 2020. I think this is a no-nonsense full service airline that is worth a try. Perhaps I want to add Brunei airport experience as well. Though airport is small, it felt really cosy and easy to move around. I didnt feel like in a super busy airport like in many major hubs. It was very calm.

I will recommend. Booked LHR-MEL this September, for my third trip with this airline. Excellent service from the flight crew and also the support staff during the Covid epidemic. Refund process was speedy and stressful.❤

I flew with BI recently. At the end of the day, the economy seat is much like any other economy seat on a full service airlines. The only thing i would comment on is that brunei airport is very small. Its not great for transits. There is 2 cafes both of which sells coffee and a few cold sandwiches thats it. A small convenience store and a soveniour shop. They take brunei or singapore dollars only. If you have food intolerance then you are out of luck. So best bring extra snacks or food with you. Remember, brunei is a Muslim country, so no pork. Regarding the extra clip about toilet doors, believe it or not, flying is still a luxury for many people. On your flight departing brunei, you may see people who is flying for the first time in their life to far away places to fulfill their dream (Pilgramage or university) or for desperate medical assistance. There are also people who have never flown on b787 before too as they only fly a320 or smaller. So please, show kindness and understanding to your fellow travellers.

Wow last time I saw MEL that empty was COVID! 😂 BI is one of those airlines I've ALWAYS wanted to try. But post pandemic, their air fares are just through the roof. And their current inflight product is definitely feeling a little dated. As for the extra video on the toilet, suppose they fly a lot of passengers who need to know how to? Lol ... I once flew Air Mauritius, and part of the safety video was reminding ADULTS sleeping on the floor was not allowed. Wow, no second meal service? That's a little rich considering the flight duration and this is a day flight. Then again, SQ OZ red eye flights are now only down to ONE meal prior to landing. After departure it's a bar service then lights out.

Regarding video on how to use toilet, BI also transports umrah and hajj pilgrims to Mecca. Most of them never fly before. That's why that kind of video really helps

This is one of those carriers you don't really consider even though they probably offer the cheapest fares from London to Melbourne. That's because Royal Brunei makes a stop in Dubai enroute to Brunei. Most airlines nowadays offer 1 stop service from Europe to the major cities in Australia. This plus the fact that they are a dry airline (and I can't fly longhaul without alcohol) means I won't ever contemplate flying Brunei even if they are the cheapest.

Nicely made report, thanks for sharing! 👍🛫 Like almost every else airline Royal Brunei changed a lot in the past. In the early 1990's, I believe it was in 1992, I had the pleasure flying RB out of Frankfurt, Germany onboard their 767-300 aircraft in Economy. The flight to BWN was scheduled with stops enroute back than, one in DXB and a second one in BKK. Both, cabin interior (such as 💺 seats, colors, lavatories, overall details) service and meals served (quantity) were way better in comparison to their 787's flights by today. There definetely was that kind of "Royal" touch on bord in the early 1990's that I can still remember very well! ✈🕌🤴
