Swiss is HOT, you proved that! Thanks for sharing.........

Mark you been on to this for a while. Every video I've seen you do Swiss is your powder.

@@vincewoolley6774 Yes...I swap off between using Schuetzen and Swiss powders. I really enjoy the product. They work for me!

Great vid, Bob. Good shooting, too. Nice to see data on a chrony to illustrate just how much “hotter” Swiss is than Goes. I didn’t expect it to be such a difference.
@BlackPowderTV4 жыл бұрын
I didn’t either Dave. I expected 100-125. I shot it several times to verify the data. Thanks!

1716 vs. 1513...Yes, Bob, that is definitely "humongous!" Been wanting to try Swiss...now I've got to get it from somewhere.
@BlackPowderTV4 жыл бұрын
It's much hotter, that's for sure! Thanks!

Very informative. Didnt think Swiss would give that much of a jump. Ive been using 2mm thick wads cut with a 5/8" punch over my powder with shot to get some of the pressure loss back... Ive noticed some success honestly. Tried tow, wool, and cards prior to. Definitely more felt recoil on a 100 grain charge.
@BlackPowderTV4 жыл бұрын
Hey Pat, thanks for the comment, I didn't either. I figured 150fps max. I know it's a bit hotter than Goex but I didn't expect a full 200fps jump.

I'd love to see a test like this, but with Old Eynsford vs Swiss FF. I see a lot of oldish forums on the subject that is powder brand comparison, but nothing quite like this.

This was a real meat and potatoes video, I really liked it. Swiss is funny about how they label their products I was told Swiss 1.5 is actually 2f . I don't know why they label this way.
@BlackPowderTV4 жыл бұрын
Hey Taylorman, Swiss 2f is definitely a tiny bit smaller granulation that Goex 2f so you have to factor that in for sure. It's very close but without a doubt Swiss is a bit smaller.
@olskool39674 жыл бұрын
i shot swiss for a long time. but now I am a goex man. what is not to like? it is accurate, it is cheaper than swiss, and it is made in the USA, and you hit the target every time with it :) and I like the smell better, LOL good video Bob! thanks buddy,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Hey Bob Great Video as Usual! I know you only took one shot with the Swiss, however, it looks like your smooth bore shoots more accurately with the Goex. 👍

Great video! Those groups were decent even though you weren't shooting for accuracy. Those 95 and 105 grain loads pounded you pretty good. Swiss FF is about like shooting Goex FFF. Thanks for the info.

Thanks US! Lots of pressure on those patched loads!

Very surprised, I was expecting more in the 50fps range across all

I was actually expecting closer to that myself. I think we would have seen that if the test load wasn’t patched balls.

After reading Spencer’s “Black Powder Notebook” series I fell in love with the concept of a 20 ga. Fowler, but what has kept me from really diving into it is the (probably irrational) fear of having to knapp a flint(s). I even called TVM and asked if I could gave them make me a percussion fowler. Their answer was “no.” So... I have been hanging back a bit. Also, I noticed that all the flintlock shooters at a shoot in Montana had a bunch of sparks shoot out of their flintlocks, while the percussion shooters had none. (?). I surely could use you help getting me straightened out. Thanks.

Kent look on my channel a few videos back. I just did a knapping video. 👍🏻

Nice shooting, If I was doing that with my smoothbore I would probably end up shooting the chronograph 😂. I’ve been shooting Swiss Powder for awhile now, sure it cost more but you generally use less.
@BlackPowderTV4 жыл бұрын
Thanks J! Yes I use it as if it’s an ‘f’ scale hotter. Great stuff!
@homemadehistory75374 жыл бұрын
That was a nice comparison. Thanks a lot. For competitive shooting I use 20% less powdercharge with swiss powder. When the powder charge is too high, specialy with swiss powder, a rifle will loose acuracy cos the patched ball will not take the rifling properly. That will be a good idea for a video. at what charge the rifle acuracy getting down with geox and swiss. 😁 Thanks a lot for the very informing video...

i use swiss as its what i had for my shiloh blackpowder catridge reloading and when i mentioned how much a 70 gr load kicked in a 50 i had some snivels. Now i know ... as all the other dudes were shooting goex. Be interesting to see how much of a swiss charge gets you the same velocity of a goex charge.
@BlackPowderTV4 жыл бұрын
I'll do that test next velocity video! It is definetely a hotter powder. No doubt!
@calvinmays59462 жыл бұрын
@@BlackPowderTV It looks like Swiss is about 20% hotter than Goex. Look at the Energy not the velocity. Goex 105 Energy 1733 Swiss 105 Energy 2229. I would guess from that an 85 grain load of Swiss would be about a 105 grain load of Gioex.

Hey Bob Late comment here. Been using Swiss for alot of years as I use to shoot BPCR. Swiss was king there I used the 1F in my 45-100. I needed some powder recently and just ordered a case of 2F Old Eynsford. Id be curious to see the comparison there if you get a chance to do that.

I added it to my list. I expect they are similar with Swiss perhaps a tad hotter. We'll see. Thanks for the suggestion.👍🏻

I have a question. Based off of another comment. Is Goex 2f sized different the Swiss 2f. Is Swiss 2f more like Goex 3f. If so, what size Swiss should I consider trying
@BlackPowderTV4 жыл бұрын
Swiss is a tiny bit smaller granulation than Goex. Not much but definitely different. Also the coating is different. Goex is dull, flat black where Swiss has a gloss to it. I'd say Swiss 2f would be great to try for smaller bores where you would normally shoot Goex 3f.
@HomesteadingPatriot4 жыл бұрын
So I've been wondering, I've seen Goex Reenactor powder around and some guys will use it for shotguns or for cowboy action. I know that consistency isn't the greatest with it(mix of granulations), but have you ever tried it in a smoothbore? I ask because at 11.50 a pound it would be super affordable if it worked.
@BlackPowderTV4 жыл бұрын
I haven’t tried it but I do own about 10 lbs of it. Mix of 2f and 3f according to Schuetzen. I think it will work fine for shot in 20bores and smaller. I’ll test it out and see. Thanks for the reminder.
@calvinmays59462 жыл бұрын
What is the length of the barrel? Since this is a 62 Cal. What velocities do you get with Fg powder? I do appreciate this channel. Whenever I see a test like this, I always wonder if it covered all the bases, which is hard to do with short videos on youTube. Thanks again for the work you put into these.

That patched ball velocity difference was an eye opener. Question is what charge is going to give the best group. At some powder charge the patch is going to fail and flyers and big groups will show up. Also lube will make a difference. I see you used spit patch. Will that fail sooner than a tallow lubed patch? The fun never ends does it?
@BlackPowderTV4 жыл бұрын
I will be running some patched ball load dev on this gun. I used spit patches for my swab between shots. Was using a bear grease, Mink Tallow lube for the patches.
@johnndavis76474 жыл бұрын
That 105 grain load looks like it kicks pretty hard with swiss. I just got a chronograph and hope to do some experimenting soon. Was the fouling noticeably different in the smoothbore? Did you swab between shots?
@BlackPowderTV4 жыл бұрын
It had a bit of punch. No noticable difference in fouling. I don't swab between unless it a bench specific gun or a range test. I did swab between on this test.

Swiss has always proven to be faster, better powder. But it’s also more money than GOEX
