@ruekurei88
@ruekurei88 6 ай бұрын
Nah, mid-level devs are pretty much dead or gotten bought up. No one else is making AA games these days anyway. What we need though, is for them to innovate in the space more, not for indie devs to be making faux AAA games, but don't have the budget, staff or experience for true AAA.
@Manganization

@@ruekurei88 This isn't what I'd call an attempt at AAA games. The game itself has very nice pacing. I'd argue this is one of the games I've played this year where I haven't felt any part of the experience was too slow or too fast even if I choose to do sidequests. Im very confused by the logic that a war would halt technological advancement. Both world wars literally forced technological advancement so hard we had airplanes that could drop atomic bombs within 30 years
@SpottedHares
@SpottedHares 6 ай бұрын
It can depend if the style and scale of war, in the respective areas. Wars can cost and do a lot of damage and for areas getting leveled on a constant basis we see a reduction of precaution and development as the ability to manufacture takes a steep drop off.
@TetanusSnowfall
@TetanusSnowfall 6 ай бұрын
Adding onto what SpottedHares said the technological developments made during war can often be a waste in that they don't actually do anything useful or can't be properly utilised. All of Germany's wunderweapon attempts were for naught and would have essentially been wasted if not for the unique post-war conditions that led the USA and USSR to disregard money and morality to see who could build something more prestigious than a nuke.
@jakedoe698
@jakedoe698 6 ай бұрын
Only because the country making those advancements didn't have to deal with the damage of said wars. The US was shipping people and supplies to other parts of the world and didn't have to worry about infrastructure and civilians.
@Silverfirefly1
@Silverfirefly1 6 ай бұрын
Maybe they stagnated because they had everything they needed rather than being forced into an arms race by zombies. You only need a sharp stick for zombies, after all, especially if you have a magic fox for miscellaneous magical foxing purposes. You could say that their war caused a lack of wars between themselves that would otherwise be pushing advancement.
@SMorales851
@SMorales851 6 ай бұрын
Wars don't really "force" technological advancement per se; rather, they force all technological advancements to be war-related. Also, in both world wars the US only ever participated in offensives, so they didn't actually lose any resources at home. In contrast, the USSR, where a huge part of the fighting of WWII took place, saw its technological development heavily slowed down by the war (and the following cold war), having to redirect large amounts of resources from consumer goods production and development to the war effort.

To be fair, if you don't already like a game, side quests are only worthwhile for boons they grant (a side quest probably won't make you care more for the story). That said, experience one can get away without or in-game currency isn't usually a benefit if those are already easy to come by (like in FFXVI). That said, as a side quest fiend and completionist myself, I'd probably do the side quests anyway.

I feel that comparing this particular character dynamic of the two leads to the two leads of Forspoken blatantly ignores the fact that it is also the exact same duo dynamic as Derek and Rebecca from Poacher! A game where it actually worked out really well. Now who could possibly have written that game?

The setting of this game might have been interesting if they'd attached it to a better game and/or different genre. A squad-based strategy might have worked.

I'm not very far in and don't totally know how i feel about it yet, but there's definitely something off about having block/parry AND an interrupt in a 3d game where you can double jump and air dash.

I think more defensive options make at least a bit more sense with the game's combo system. Kind of surprised he didn't mention it, honestly.

The very first thing I saw upon seeing gameplay for this game was "Oh, so it's Forspoken again". That's not a comparison one should aim for

Had an exchange recently with someone about parry mechanics being an "industry standard" because "everyone likes them." With an industry this ragged and mistreated, I think it says everything this guy was trying to couch "industry standards" as a good thing.

The reason the parry is being so overused in games lately is because the mechanic itself is very simple. You just need to know the timing of the attacks and that's it. Which makes them also easy to learn because parrying mostly consists in pressing one button at the right moment, kinda like a hidden qte. And like a qte, is entirely binary, you either press the button or not. They are also hype machines, especially when showed in clips or compilation videos like "sekiro cool sick parries", which means free marketing and clout.

Didnt play Ashen but this game really feels like a budget title. I don't think I was disappointed and I know I generally liked what I played enough to finish it but was bothered by traits I think a game with a higher budget would be able to avoid. Sebo is dumb though.

When you explained the plot i didnt get Forspoken, i thought Immortals of Aveum. And the further i get in the video...the closer it gets to IoA a part from the gameplay style.

Bruh, she was in there since the official announcement trailer. Even if unsubstantiated rumors are true, how far back does "Race-swapping" get to go? Are we going to say it when one person on the dev team just initially thought they were white?
