I'm playing Flintlock right now, and having a good time. To me, it's absolutely NOT a Souls game (because you can find levels of difficulty in this game, that you'll never, ever find in Souls games). To me it's an action/adventure game with, at the highest difficulty level, some challenges. To sum things up, Flintlock is the "Atlas Fallen" of this year.

This is a good review. What he says about the red indicators not showing up at the right time and confusing which parry to use has sunk down my enjoyment of this game and the combat. Hopefully they will fix that

It's not perfect but surprisingly it's been absolutely one of the most refreshing games I've played in a long time. The story and movement style is wonderful and I would absolutely love a sequel, where the gameplay was tightened up a bit.

I think people hold ashen in a higher light than is really worth tbh, and too critical on this game when those criticisms were the same if not worse in Ashen. It must be because games have come a long way since 2018 in general. I just opened it up to confirm this. A44 has come a massive way from ashen to flintlock. Everything is so much tighter, from the controls to combat to platforming to voice acting to story pacing. Yes ashen is a more traditional souls-like but not necessarily in all the best ways. This game is fast paced so it makes for a shorter game. Most of the dialogue is on the fly rather than stopping to listen to an npc and their 0.25x speech. While Ashen is a fantastic game and worth playing, we have to acknowledge that it definitely didn't do better in the ways that flintlock falls short.

Yes, an amazing game, it will be a hit for sure! Under 550 players on a saturday at release, so exciting! By the way, I played and was not able to finish the demo. The colonialism theme in this game was hard to stomach, all white men in this game are either cowards or part of the patriarchal system, plus all the women are strong, stoic and independent. If you can get over all these, you get to the boring gameplay, with some okeish elements (I liked the fox and the special abilities it gave), mediocre fighting... SBI FTW!

There are two settings for the HUD, I had dynamic HUD turned on so it only appeared in combat.

I'm personally not sure you can finish it in 5 hours. Yhe main story critical path isn't too long, if you wanted to rush it but I didn't feel it was necessary.

I personally think it was a great length, there was no filler and any side quests contributed well to the world. I would like a new game plus however. It reminded me a lot of god of war, nice and concise with good direction.

@@ed61730 I finished the Elden Ring dlc last week. I played Bloodborne for the third time two months ago. My favourite game from 2023 was Lies of Pi. I love most Souls-like games maybe that's why I'm having so much fun with it. It's definitely not the best looking game but so far I didn't have any frames drop or glitches and I'm liking the story.
