Hi Steve, it wouldn't be a bad idea for safety reason to carry a frizzen (or hammer) stall (or cover). Keep up with the good work. Paul

Good videos Steve! Really informative and clear, with a confident, relaxed style! Up here in Upper Canada, we refer to the Cock of a Flintlock as the "Dog", originating from our French Habitant heritage. The Nouveau Francaise called it Le Chien. Everything else you mention is fairly familiar though. Do you not also use cartridges as well?

I imagine you could, though I've never tried it. I have made paper cartridges in the past, not waxed . I don't use them very often at all. I may make a vid on how to do it.

I collect, shoot competitively, and hunt with my side locks (percussion) rifles, pistols, and double barrel 12 gauge. I own a total of 7. I'm thinking really hard about getting me a flintlock, particularly the Indian Trade Musket. What is your opinion about the trade musket?

Enjoy your videos thanks for your effort. 60 caliber is 20 gauge? For my 12 gauge H and R should I get 69 cal round ball mould? My buddy at the shop just gave me a bunch of lead wheel weights off fire trucks can I use those to melt down? Also, where do I find the round ball mould ( ebay is about $75.00- ouch) and the other lead pourer ? Thanks.

Steve, I want to be period correct on my firearm, but am getting a percussion cap thompson center 50 cal rifle, how do you feel about percussion cap rifles?
@johnndavis76474 жыл бұрын
A Thompson center is a good starter gun. High quality and should last a lifetime if you keep it clean and oiled. Shoot that ten years then get a flintlock custom made.

Not sure of the composition of the fixing wax, but if you used beeswax mixed with linseed oil and turpentine & put it on with a little heat, that cows knee could be completely waterproof.

Jerseyhighlander He does that with canvass later.

They work fine until you run out of caps, or they get wet. I can find a flint laying on the ground.
