This has been done before. Check out the HAMB -search flip up front ends. a slick set up allows the front end to slide forward and then tip.

I ran a front bumper on mine and used the front bracket bolt as a hinge. Mine was pinned the same and slid a length of foam pipe insulation over the opposite side so not to scratch the door. Also put blocks on the cowl to make the frontend match the doors.

Nice work so far. You could probably use some sort of electric solenoid or actuator to both stabilize the hood, limit the hood travel and even have it automated for use from a key fob or inside the cab. Just a thought, only trying to help. Do what you want.

I have a 57 four door all stock. . Always wanted a 55 tho.

Nice! They're still out there.
@billmiller71385 жыл бұрын
Maybe put some removable pins in the hinges to remove the front end?
@DDSpeedShop5 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's only got 2 bolts on each hinge. I thought about making it easily removable but I hope it wont have to come off to often.

Put an adjustable bolt with a rubber head behind the fender on the sides to get the fender to have the same contour as the doors

One cool set-up for a tilt front in Ive seen was a slide hinge. You slide it forward then tilt or you can slide it all the way out to remove the doghouse from the car.

I think the best arraingement I've seen for a tri five tilt front end had the front of the clip attached to two round tubes that rode in and out of the front frame horns on Teflon glides in the horns. .to open the front end was unclipped and pulled ahead about ?6 maybe 8? inches and then tilted to open. doing that let the bottom of the fenders miss the doors on both the up and down swings.
@DDSpeedShop5 жыл бұрын
Yeah theres alot of stuff I've seen. This was quick and easy to get the car together. I can mess around with it later. Thanks man!
@butchc76505 жыл бұрын
The Chevy Vegas had a hood that flip the same way as your front end maybe you could find one that has the latch system in the cable release that would work for you
@Mr62biscayne4 жыл бұрын
Maybe I missed it along the way but did you build the scoop? I like that design. Keep up the good work.
@DDSpeedShop4 жыл бұрын
Had a buddy custom make it.
@Mr62biscayne4 жыл бұрын
Cool thanks for the reply.
@xozindustries74515 жыл бұрын
I would just cut one or two round holes in the hood for the air cleaners (depending on how many carbs you run) instead of cutting the whole underside of the scoop out, it’ll be a lot stronger
@DDSpeedShop5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I wanna leave some glass for strength. Theres also some steel structure underneath I might add too.
