Chris gave me chapter and verse - basically this video - so I went for the E1. love my Neotec. I used to wear glasses and Modular is a must for anyone who wears glasses. I had surgery and no longer need glasses but I stayed with my Modular. My 1st was a Scorpion, then I got a neotec and that was it. For me best helmet....EVER! I tried the Schuberth but they just didn't fit my noggin. A rep said they fit 1 out of 3 and they are addressing that. I just went at a Neotec II and love it. Better air flow design, super quiet and love the quick chin strap. Cyclegear has the Schuberth lite and they are under 400. One more thing Whatever you get, pinlock is a must. I would like Shoei to offer a mirrored facesheild..

Good review, struck me as being honest as it dished the dirt when it needed to then told the full story. I had the C3 pro, really good and fitted well but had a couple of issues (like it leaked in the visor in heavy rain, which I've since discovered was a common complaint). Bought the Neotec 2 which I thought was great, and it is, but after some riding, realised it just doesn't fit my head-shape. I sold it and bought the C4 pro; it fits great and I like it but haven't done enough riding yet for a definitive conclusion. However, the early signs are that I made the right decision for me.

I have rode with the Shoei Neotec II for the past year......The pros are as stated, it is like good leather, tight at first but with in a couple weeks it fits like a glove and softens up and remains absolutely comfortable even when pulling on and off. He didnt really get into the way a lot of townies ride, thats with the face bar in the up position, even then the helmet is quiet And still comfortable, At higher speeds like 80+ mph it does start to give you the wind sail effect. It is a solid helmet and you notice that all the moving parts are crisp and done right. The chin strap is a rachet one, I thought this would be annoying at first but quickly warmed up to this feature and now I couldn't do without it, gloves on or off, quick on quick off, no excess strap dangling. The "Fighter" viser is fantastic as in quick and solid drop down and still feels like youre riding wide open, lots of air flow but not flushing your eyes out. The Cons......This IS an expensive helmet, here in the states they are going for $700 . The helmet is heavier, but it doesn't really feel like it when youre riding with it on, I have done some all day rides and had no neck fatigue at all. The biggest Con has to be the SENA SRL made especially for this helmet, you must of course purchase this separate and they aren't cheap either, That said , that Sena is really your ONLY choice so if you like other comm units youre outta luck. However the Sena Does fit beautifully integrated into the helmet and very low profile and a good looking design hides it to look like you dont even have a com unit installed at all. Over all, the BEST helmet I have ever owned.

Another great review Chris. I was surprised when you mentioned the C3 came out in 1998! Did I miss something as I bought my first Schuberth in 2000, the Concept. I think what you might have meant to say is that the first Schuberth flip up was launched in 1998. C3 I think was 2008? After the Concept I had the C2 and now the C3. The older ones were great but the C3 feels a bit flimsy with the chin piece a much tighter fit than before which I never liked on the Arai’s. I also miss being able to pull the visor forward in hot weather allowing more air with the visor full down (Concept & C2) Otherwise the C3 is a very nice well ventilated quiet helmet and feels much lighter than previous (too light?). Will definitely be paying a visit to Guildford for a fitting and having a look at the C5 & Shoei when replacing.

Nice review thank you, some what confused with two points you make seeming to be different to anyone else i have seen reviewing. The accident point, seems that there is a concesess that the chin is most likely place to be hit at nearly 20% of the time. And the noise factor which other reviews all agree flip lids are mostly louder than full face.

I have had three Schuberth Helmets, the latest being the C3Pro which I am still using. The one thing that I absolutely detested on the C3 Pro is the PinLock system. I much preferred the hydorphilic coating on the previous helmets. I ripped out the Pinlock because keeping 4 layers of plastic clean was difficult (6 if you count the Sun screen) and the edge of the Pinlock interfered with my vision. YMMV.
@Motolegends4 жыл бұрын
In good weather and through the summer you are better off without a pinlock, but if you commute daily right through the winter a good Pinlock comes into its own. One thing to bear in mind is that, until recently, Schuberth fitted a very inferior Pinlock lookalike.
@patfleming38353 жыл бұрын
@@Motolegends I too am on my third Schuberth. With The early ones, Concept and C2 I could leave the visor closed at traffic lights with minimal foggy on a cold morning. However I found that after about four years the coating began to peel off. I have had pinlocks on other helmets and my present C3 and find them great. I’d have a slight preference for the older type of visor but if it has to be pinlock, I can live with it.

I used the C3Pro for a few years and loved it. Installed a Cardo pack talk to it and the boom placement seemed to be the only problem, or having to constantly adjust it when putting the helmet on. I replaced it with the C4Pro and I really enjoy the integrated comms. The material is great feeling and only have a few issues with the C4Pro that I didn’t have with the C3Pro. I get a pressure point on the rear of my skull after about an hour. I push the helmet back when putting it on to avoid rear pressure. It’s a bandaid fix though. And I also get a lot of noise from the vents when they are closed. Not just wind noise, but whistling and buzzing from plastic bits. There is zero of that when vents are open. Any tips on fixing it would be welcome as I haven’t seen anything online about it.
@Motolegends4 жыл бұрын
Off hand, no immediate thoughts because normally one would expect more noise when the vents are open. Obviously there are lots and lots of factors that can come to bear on a helmet with regard to noise, but I simply don't understand why you would get more noise with the vents closed. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful. You've stumped me.
@scotteger62714 жыл бұрын
@@Motolegends maybe it's an issue with this person's individual helmet, rather than the C4 Pro in general. Without seeing it or experiencing it myself, my only guess would be the vents are not completely sealing the moving air out, causing the air to force through and whistle...possibly causing some turbulence on the vents also. I had a cheaper Bell helmet that would do this from the chin vent...was annoying but a cheap helmet, not something you expect from Schuberth.

A number of the major helmet manufacturers have moved away from Cardo, so Sena has become the dominant voice. My only problems with fliplids is that they are physically larger - and heavier. Though new, good helmets are very aerodynamic which lessens the weight you actually feel. Another is that they are usually designed for upright riding, so when you are on a more sporty bike and in a tuck position, they can be hard to look around in if they make contact with your neck or upper back. Been there too 😄

I wear a Small C3 Pro and was told to buy a Medium if I am going for the C4 Pro. Would like to know if this is true. BTW, in the USA, C3 Pro is still sold. Any difference between the C4 Pro Carbon and C4 Pro? Thanks a lot

Scorpion makes the AT950 but it is loud compared to the ones here, or probably the E1 mentioned in the other comment

Great review. Slightly off topic but what’s the Schuberth comms system like when connecting to a Cardo system. Any issues?
@Motolegends4 жыл бұрын
It is very difficult to make Sena and Cardo work well together. They can do but everyone seems to have problems. It is easier to be on the same comms system as your friends!

What about the C4 BASIC ?
@Motolegends4 жыл бұрын
The C4 Basic is on our site, I have noticed, but it shouldn't be as we had decided not to offer it. The C4 Basic is the C4 Pro but without comms, and we think most people will want the facility to use comms. It is, however, according to Schuberth the quietest helmet in their range.

@@Motolegends - so the 'infamous' C4 that had issues - is that an older generation of C4? Or is the 'C4' that's offered today the same helmet? In NZ, we seem to have lots of C4 helmets (and I use Cardo Pack Talk Bold) on my C3 Basic but don't want to buy a lemon if the C4 you talk about is actually the C4 Basic (only the C3 uses the term here it seems). Thanks!

@@antonygriffin9019 I have the same thing here in Europe. Here they sell C4 Basic for €399. In fact I just bought one. I watched many reviews but none addressed the difference of C4 and C4 basic. Now I know the C4 basic is a C4 pro without comms. Perfectly fine for me as I have my own BT fitted anyways. Cheers

@motolegends So there is C4 "original" (with bugs), C4 basic (C4 Pro just without coms) and C4 Pro? Like of you want C4 without bugs and use cardo you need choose C4 Basic?

I had a Shoei open-face helmet. I wanted a quieter helmet so I bought a GT-Air. Much better.
@Motolegends4 жыл бұрын
Yes, obviously a full face is going to be quieter. ML

Motolegends Oops! I’m sorry, I meant a modular Shoei helmet. My mistake. But my GT-Air is more quiet than my previous helmet. Maybe the newest modular design is improved.

Would you be able to custom fit the C4 Pro by swopping different size internal liners? Say for example if you get a size medium but want a tighter fit around the cheeks, could you fit the size small helmet's cheek pads? As far as I know the shell size for small and medium are the same so the liners should be interchangeable right?
@Motolegends4 жыл бұрын
You cannot change the cheek pads easily. They are not designed to do that (unfortunately). Sometimes we have got away with it but the attachments are not always in the same place in the different sizes.

With respect to the integrated comms, the Sena 10 and 20 are dated. I have had a 20 and now have the 30, which I like much more. 50s are now out. Integrating comms locks you into something you may not want. I absolutely do not want a 20 series (and certainly not a 10). So that rules out the Schuberth and Neotec. I'll stick with a proper full-face until the industry makes something I actually want.

Just bought a C4 Pro and the vent noise is terrible, worse than my old modestly priced HJC. How they can get away with selling a helmet that bad at that price is mind boggling. Schuberth should be prosecuted for false and misleading advertising and their dealers should be ashamed! It's fresh and it hurts, what can I say.
@Motolegends4 жыл бұрын
The C4 Pro is emphatically not a noisy helmet. If it has a fault with the vents, take it back to the dealer you bought it from. The helmet has a five year warranty. They will hopefully be able to repair it. I don’t really understand why somebody in your position would take to social media to air their grievances. If I buy a car and I am unhappy with it, I go back to the garage. It seems to me to be more productive than venting one’s spleen in the blogosphere. I am not quite sure what you hope to achieve with your attack on the C4 Pro. What you write is nothing more than your personal opinion; it is not borne out by our experience, and that of the hundreds of customers we have sold this helmet to. Better to direct your energies towards solving the problem. You’ll stand a better chance of improving the situation than you will be leaving abuse on KZbin.
@PBear08114 жыл бұрын
@@Motolegends Nicely put. I did go back to the dealer who tested the helmet themselves and agreed with me regarding vent noise. It may have been a manufacturing fault but I doubt it. I did a Google search for "C4 Pro vent noise" and found others who experienced the same issue. It therefore leads one to believe it's a design fault, or the manufacturer has a quality control issue, either is not great. There also seems to be a "once worn it's yours" philosophy in the industry, some purchasers have been caught out which to me seem grossly unfair. Before you draw your poison pen, I'm not suggesting your firm is guilty of this at all. My "spleen vent" is a heads up to the consumer who often get a raw deal.
@Motolegends4 жыл бұрын
Dear Tony, if you would like to send the helmet back to us (even though you didn't buy it from us), then we are happy to take a look at it. If you do that please let us know where it was purchased as we will need to know that.
@PBear08114 жыл бұрын
@@Motolegends Now that's service! You obviously care deeply about your profession and that's nice to see. I returned the helmet to the dealer I purchased it from and got a refund. They also offered good customer service and tested the helmet themselves, not sure what process they would follow from there. Hopefully this feedback gets to Schuberth who can look into it. Not sure if it's design. manufacture, or the vagaries of aerodynamics but it's a relief to know not everyone experiences the problem.

Personally I'm not willing to allow my face to contact any surface going the "low speed" of 30mph. The only advantage I see a flip lid helmet has is OFF the bike. There are none on one that I can see.

I was thinking that the American channels (I won't name them) that do product reviews, are just not very good at product reviews. This was a real product review. The English way of teaching, in this case, was far better. The American motorcycle and helmet reviews assume that everyone is an expert, and a race level rider.
