At the age of 56, I'm fortunate to be old enough to have watched the "Flip Wilson Show", in all it's glory, when it actually aired. All of his shows were extremely well written, positively hilarious......and PROFANITY FREE. In this day & age, good luck in finding a "prime-time" program that has those same qualities. Flip Wilson....a truly underrated "King Of Comedy".

I was at a church in Jackson, MS, when the pastor had the doors locked and would not let people leave. Brother Cleophus Robinson and Sister Josephine James were the guest singers. The reverend said they needed train fare back to California, and nobody was leaving until they got the money. My friends were members at this church and they invited me. The pastor had already called for four collections when he decided there wasn't enough money for the church and the guest singers. I know it's hard to believe but were were actually held hostage. They had deacons blocking the doors. I never visited that church agin.

This show was so important to watch that my mother had me & my sister STOP DOING THE DISHES and come downstairs and watch Flip Wilson. Why? My mom (one cool lady, God bless her soul) came at us from a historical tip; She said because this is a black man with a variety show that was an absolute hit. And everybody watched his show, black people, white people, everybody. I’ll never forget what she said..❤️
