At the age of 56, I'm fortunate to be old enough to have watched the "Flip Wilson Show", in all it's glory, when it actually aired. All of his shows were extremely well written, positively hilarious......and PROFANITY FREE. In this day & age, good luck in finding a "prime-time" program that has those same qualities. Flip Wilson....a truly underrated "King Of Comedy".

Personally, I don’t think it is just a Black actor thing, look at all the white boys who have donned the skirt. Old school, Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis. Semi old school Robin Williams, Dustin Hoffman. Newer cats, Matt Daemon, the list goes on and on. Denzel never wore one and Ima down with that.

The Flip Wilson and Carol Burnett shows were the best comedy variety shows on television. Both were fresh, hilarious, and, I agree, profanity free. It's amazing how funny the comics of the 70's and before were without profanity. Sometimes just their facial expressions and body language was hysterical without them ever saying a word.

Dear Wandaworld20 ... we too appreciate those two 70s comics who, amongst others, showed how they could make entire family units deeply-belly-laugh without any family members being made to feel uncomfortable because of four-or-five letter vocabulary that only leaves people embarrassed because they are in the presence of various other ... 'age groups' !!! BOTH WERE AND STILL ARE LOVELY COMEDIC TALENTS... IN 2020 AND FOR MANY MORE DECADES, ERAS AND CENTURIES TO COME.

This show brings tears to my eyes because I can remember growing up when things for black people were looking up. T.V. was golden during those years. Everything on TV was wholesome. There no rap and hip-hop. Every message was positive on the radio and television. Life was simple. There were no drugs or people addicted to drugs like today. The black where I grew up in Jacksonville, Florida was very safe. Everybody was nice and friendly.

I was at a church in Jackson, MS, when the pastor had the doors locked and would not let people leave. Brother Cleophus Robinson and Sister Josephine James were the guest singers. The reverend said they needed train fare back to California, and nobody was leaving until they got the money. My friends were members at this church and they invited me. The pastor had already called for four collections when he decided there wasn't enough money for the church and the guest singers. I know it's hard to believe but were were actually held hostage. They had deacons blocking the doors. I never visited that church agin.

This show was so important to watch that my mother had me & my sister STOP DOING THE DISHES and come downstairs and watch Flip Wilson. Why? My mom (one cool lady, God bless her soul) came at us from a historical tip; She said because this is a black man with a variety show that was an absolute hit. And everybody watched his show, black people, white people, everybody. I’ll never forget what she said..❤️
