One thing that made early minecraft's aesthetic so important to me is that it felt "raw". The lack of concern for realism conveyed to me Notch's intent to create his unique world. The fact that I can tell the developer cares more about his idea than what my opinion of it is is incredibly intriguing. It gives me a sense of mystery since the game could hold virtually anything if it's not being held back by the opinions of consumers.

i'm probably making a huge deal out of this, but the hotbar and health bar textures look SO GOOD. i've always hated the default hearts, they're literally just a solid red with a little white dot. this heart texture adds actual shading and texture to the hearts that keep it looking simple and faithful to the default, but different enough that they're pleasant to look at

I had no idea this existed. As a pre-alpha tester i have a huge soft spot for indev and infdev. I always thought everything after beta 1.7.3 took away from the game, but something was lost in the alpha to beta transition as well. Very cool to see this!

13:36 I did not know about this feature of Reindev. I appreciate this a lot. The Aether series have always been a massive part of my childhood, so having the abilities of the Aether equivalent of overworld tools ripped from the aether and implemented in this mod is much appreciated and feels like an elegant way to add certian missing features like silk touch to the game with a good bit of fun game design.

I prefer the way this mod does backporting features over how BTA does it. The way BTA does it is by making unnecessary changes just to be different, like, “Oh it’s not a hopper, it’s a funnel,” and “It’s not a banner, it’s a flag!” Where as the way Reindev does it is by picking and choosing what features feels natural, giving them a classic looking texture and giving them a new context.
@darkdwarf007
@darkdwarf007 Жыл бұрын
To be fair, flags work and look differently compared to banners, same name might've caused confusion
@sprousprou
@sprousprou Жыл бұрын
BTA doesn’t really try doing backports at all, instead trying to find a different solution to the same problems. Though some features are inevitably pretty similar, they’re trying to find new ways to approach similar ideas, and a lot of features feel like very unique takes. I don’t think one method is better than the other, and there are definitely things that I wish BTA would backport, but I understand the devs’ vision and to chalk it up to lazy changes to make things stand out more is pretty reductive

I think the fear aspect is the hardest to achieve. I remember playing when creepers got added, nothing would be able to put me in the same headspace as when that first explosion rocked my world and destroyed my chest of items. I was a kid and i didnt know yet how best to deal with them, but nowadays, theres no threat, i know to simply take a step back, punch them away, and usually thats enough to stop the bomb. I cant un learn the tricks so to speak, so its harder for the game to get you

You should try out Reminiscence next, it has been my favorite twist on this style of mod. Rather than mostly just focusing on old Minecraft, it blends old ALONG with a lot of the new, as well as some modded stuff for fun but not to the level of ruining the OG gameplay, like copper tools or the aether dimension. Would be cool to see a video on it maybe, I think it deserves to be showcased alongside mods like this and BTA.

@Cheatscape
@Cheatscape Жыл бұрын
I think the reason that these old versions of Minecraft still have appeal today is because, unlike the current version of Minecraft, they feel complete and finished. Even though all of the features of old Minecraft are also in new Minecraft, most of that additional content is underwhelming and half baked. The new cave system, which changed the way the entire world was generated to accommodate it, only added 2 new cave biomes, leaving the caves to feel like they're still in development, when the old caves didn't have this feeling. Hell, the villagers are STILL being overhauled and developed, which were introduced to the game 12 YEARS AGO. They've felt unfinished this whole time. The End is still only one biome with 2 structures. And they keep adding half baked ideas that highlight how shallow most of it is. Mods like this show what could have been: a more well-rounded expansion of the original concept.

13:52 Damn, gotta say that those extra abilities for tools are really selling to me. I love how they make it so that they all pretty much keep having uses, regardless of how wealthy you get in the game. Really nice that Gold tools got silk touch, that would really incentivise making gold tools. So far ive only used stone tools for slow grindy gathering, iron toools (especially pickaxes) for diamond collection and diamond tools for obsidian and for whenever I want to slap some enchantments on a tool.

I was so sad and let down when they removed Fog. I even stopped playing for a long while because it changed my experience so heavily. I played almost 100% with the closest fog setting, and it made my world stay mysterious and undoscovered. Features only a few dozen blocks away were interesting impactful and I had to connect my builds with clear paths to not get lost. It also made it necessary for me to think about my world in more mindful way. Try to remember what laid ahead or in my mind try to make out a map of what things really looked like. When I return to this save file now, more than 10 years later, there's no mystery and no ambience. It's almost silly how scary or intimidating some directions were to me bacl then, that is just a completely normal hill or pack of trees. The small area I claimed for myself and wandered around felt so huge, but you could fly past it in 2 seconds with an elytra. I would argue hard that it is not the same to keep a low render distance. For a long time I was the annoying friend that complained about the game removing a feature that made the game "less bad".

Liked & Subscribed. I've been/currently am on a Minecraft binge, rediscovering old stuff and discovering new, small channels I never heard of before. You're scratching that itch, strange as that may sound. Good shit!!

I like how this mod seems to be incorporating old and new designs. From old and new Minecraft, new ideas, cut ideas, and ideas never part of PC Minecraft and adding them. This gave a reminiscent feeling to those who played MCPE or the consoles and the handheld console device versions and went to PC which most did.

8:33 I started playing just before Beta 1.8. I remember getting freaked out due to the cave noises and the stories about herobrine. Caving with fog back then was eerie. I remember my main world on "maryanddadsos" seeming like it had a massive island to explore, but looking back at it, that island was not very large. All my seemingly distant builds were right next to each other when the render distance was turned up. I'll never be able to return to those feelings, but this mod looks like it can at least try to.

The different "enchantments" for different tiers of tools is genius, it actually gives a reason to continue using iron and stone even after you upgrade to diamond and it gives a reason for gold tools to exist at all. In vanilla Minecraft the moment you get iron you might as well throw the stone tools out, and the moment you get diamond you throw the iron tools out...
