I have been HOPING for you guys to do a feral concept sculpt, and even mentioned that I hoped that you guys would, and y'all even used the mesh that I use constantly as well!! Thank you so freaking much for this video, seriously, thank you so much for this. It's fantastic, I love it, y'all are awesome and amazing. At least for me, this is one of the most helpful and inspiring videos y'all have put out to date.

I personally have a private stash of photos that's basically pics of anatomical references for animals and humans alike. It's definitely handy af to look and be able to tell the parts in a cadavers apart lol.

Why don’t you share this stash instead of being a greedy crow and just bragging about it?

This was quite interest to watch and listen to, especially considering the comments against sculpting from scratch (where in your 'Sculpting The Base' video, you actually sculpted a creature from scratch and it came our really nicely). Anyway great content, thanks

What’s a quick way to get this Model down to low poly? It’s like 100 million active points with like 50 sub tools.
@FlippedNormals
@FlippedNormals 5 жыл бұрын
You can easily go down in subdivision levels with subtool master. It's quite low poly at the lowest level

Is the video sped up or are they just really fast?

What if you want to do character/creature design AND creation? Relegating yourself to just one or the other seems kind of limiting... ( I mean as a hobby, not as a profession, through there are professionals who do both.)

Still it's not comparable with freedom you have in drawing. How much time you would need to do that creature if it had bunch of equipment on it, and that equipment should be looking fresh? I could see more 3d modelers taking line stuff, doing rough 3d model to present it and then polish it later on. Also, what about creatures which look more weird? Concept wise, that creature is pretty bland.

? The title is fastest way to sculpt a creature in zbrush, not fastest way to concept a creature.

define "weird". an important part about creature design is that it should still be plausible, meaning the creature should still have a working skeleton and muscle structure to some extent. This also applies to when you are drawing, a creature that looks anatomically impossible can work (for example in a lovecraftian horror scenario) but those are an exception. Regarding the equipment, that has nothing to do with anatomy so it has nothing do do with the creature in itself (this tutorial is for ways to sculpt a creature as fast as possible, not how to make an interesting creature or even how to make a finished sculpt). Still, IF you wanted equipment on the creature then the process can be done the same as with the creature itself: you can take already premade forms and paste it onto the creature, tweak it, add some details, finished.

Well, if you looked the video they talk about concepting all the time.

@@MrMilchjunkie Weird meaning not easily customizable from already existing models. Yeah, but then comes the question would it be faster to create equipment from the scratch or modify existing one, that's why i said looking fresh. About creature being plausible, you are talking plausible from out standpoint, but who knows what there could be. Also, where time is invested the most are details, you could do rough in 3d, but when it comes to details it would go faster with drawing. The reason why i'm talking about it is i was on a crossroad of 2d or 3d for concepting.

@@kreculjkreculj your definition of "weird" does not make much sense honestly because in Zbrush EVERY form is easily customizable into every other form. If you want to make a creature with 4 legs and 1 head then you can either make it by modelling a form (for example a sphere) until it becomes the form you wish for OR you take an already existing form of a four legged creature and tweak it so it fits your needs. Of course, if you want to make a bird or a fish or something like an octopus then starting from the same four legged model is of course not possible but the same reasoning still applies: if you have an existing model of a bird/fish/octopus you can tweak this model until it fits. If you want to sculpt an alien head its still faster to start from a human head (or whatever type of head is most similar to what you want your alien to look) compared to making it from scratch. This is the whole point they made in the video: if you want to sculpt something you can take something similar that is already sculpted and adjust it to your needs. If you do not have anything similar to what you want to do then you have to do it from scratch, yes, but the whole video was based on the point that you already have a base model that you can change. This is also the case for equipment, if the animal has armor or something like that itis easier if you already have a rough suit of armor that you can adjust so it fits on the animal for example compared to making a completely new one. Yes, when I talk about plausible I mean what is plausible for us. But do not forget, the reasons for why animals evolved to how they are now are the same, wether it is on earth or somewhere else in the universe. This means that a creature that would not work will never look as good as a creature that makes sense, even if it is a fantasy or science fiction creature. This is important because if you break those "natural rules" you create something that is scary or supernatural, which sometimes is somethign you WANT to do... but even then it is easier to start with a "natural" form that you can distort. When it comes to speed, it depends on what you are more used to and what you need for your result. Yes, 2D drawings can be very fast and yes, you can add details very fast. But you have to make a new drawing for every perspective whereas with a 3D model you only have to make a single one. So if you want something to show to a client then a 3D model might work better because you can turn it around and your client will get a better picture of what its gonna look like. You can also use 3D models as a base for 2D paintings by making a fast shape with 3D, make a render and use the render as a base for your picture. Using 3D as a base for 2D is very widely used especially for big structures or pictures where the perspective is difficult to get right.
