In 14 years since I first used it, I've never seen a zbrush video so perfectly capture the basics of sculpting in zbrush without being "scary" to someone who would be new to it. Very very well done. There's been plenty of basics videos, but I feel like all of them had something that made people go "I'm not so sure I can grasp that." but the way you approached it, it doesn't make it look easy, but it makes it look attainable.

The part about lowering the intensity of the clay buildup for a clean sculpt was really helpful, i was avoiding that brush because of the result i was getting. Thanks a lot!

clay buildup is pretty much my main brush, so good when you get the hang of it

The control that give you the clay buildup with alphas is incredible, I can't sculpt right without that It is what difference and beginner from a Pro, people who doesn't use that and creates incredible sculpts exist like gio napkil but It is like 10 times harder, of course for cartoonish characters is different but for realistic sculpts makes a great difference, that is my opinión.

The "smooth alt" brush has been really handy and will not destroy your primary forms. Also, Pablo sells a set of clay brushes and within that pack, there is a knife brush. I tend to use that other than the "dam standard" brush. I'll tend to use "dam standard" to refine the details at the end. These are some tips that have helped me recently. Great video Henning, thanks for the tips!

For me as an Environment Artist, I would also add flatten, Trim smooth border square and planar.
@BernhardvanderhorstArt3 жыл бұрын
While you can indeed get away with only using those brushes - I would highly recommend learning more of the available ones and even some third party ones (Orb cracks for example). You are making life harder for yourself in the long run. I consider these essential to my workflow - on top of the most important ones listed in the video : Pinch Inflate Move Topological (Crucial in more complex meshes) Smooth Peaks (fantastic to quickly get surface detail) Smooth Cloth (EXCELLENT for one-sided geo to smooth the borders - the only smooth brush that does NOT ignore edges of one-sided geo) SK_Clayfill (cleanup) OrbCracks (one of the finest brushes for harder surface detail, like stone etc) HPolish (this brush was designed to also be used in tandem with TrimDynamic - Define with TrimDynamic, refine with hPolish. Flatten (THE go to brush to quickly "clean" or demolish an area) ZModeler (it's weird but powerful) Planar (great for quickly faceting for rock stone etc) TrimSmoothBorders (another great stone.rock etc faceting brush) SK_Cloth (Superb for manual cloth sculpting quickly) CurveTubeSnap (quickly block out tentacles,appendages, pipes, whatever) CurveTube etc IMM Primitives (quickly block out parts) Cloth brushes (very nice for the dynamics of cloth, liquid etc) Trim Brushes (quickly slice up the mesh) MeshProject (Extract but on steroids) and a few others on occasion. I use all of these on a daily basis, and it would be a huge pain in the ass if they were not available.

For example you paid for all those brushes but only use 4-6 of them. I’d rather spend $200 and have options I will actually use.
