100% diversification is the WAY and ONLY way if you want your business to survive and grow and not be beholden to one platform YOU MUST diversify like i have told Josh and Many others in the comment sections since Last April when the rug fell out from the Ebay only sellers if you had those same items on 10 other sites and you can have 5 of those sites net you 10% of your eBay Net (say your eBay net is $5k) if you can make $500 on 5 platforms that is an extra $2500 a month net who cant use that

I've been selling on eBay since 1998. I sailed pretty easily for over 2 decades until the year or two after covid sales died- since then it's just been weird, unpredictable, up, down, and sideways. That started this weird period of stagnant sales, but ALWAYS a flood of sales at the beginning of the month- I could make a chart to show how I'd always get this flurry of sales to cover that store fee at the beginning of the month. I'd even have 5 or 6 sales in one day- when I NEVER had that many sales in one day unless it was the first few days of the month. I would then go back to 1 to 3 sales a day, then it started where I'd have sales deserts- days with nothing. August of 2024, I didn't even get the beginning of the month rush- It was crickets. Then a sale here, a sale there. Then Sept hit. Again, no rush at the beginning of month. A few, then it died completely between Sept 3rd, and Sept 9th, I had no eBay sales at all. 6 days! It was crazy! A SLOW month for me would be $1200 gross roughly- before the weirdness started, I would hover around $3000 gross monthly when things were selling well. But because of August 2024, I am now under $700 gross. It's killing me. Only thing that helped was I got 2 Bonanza sales, 3 Mercari, 1 FBMP. I've been listing, I only go off comps when they exist that is- they usually do. I just think people can't find things like they used to, and unless you pay extra, now eBay isn't going to put your items on google. There's been so many glitches on the platform, and I think it's affecting our bottom line, along with eBay not advertising and trying to drum up a new generation of buyers.

9-12-24 - I have averaged $1300 a week for the last 2 months. BOOM. September 6th. Hit a wall. I have sold $50 gross in the last 6 days. The 6th, 7th and 8th had NO sales. For all the gaslighters that say "It's what you're selling" or "It's the economy". Nope. Nope. Nope. You don't average those kind of sales and then boom, next to zero. Same goes for the economy. Ebay is magnificent at destroying sales.

I too am experiencing major slow sales. I don't hit it out the park, but I did have sales, now it is just a bunch of tumbleweeds rolling by. Had one sale on Mercari today but that is it. I even just listed a total of 30 items (ten per day) to try and get my store ready for Q4 but I feel like it was all for nothing. I am going to try and hang in there and keep pushing, hopefully things will roll back.

100% this is just my theory but i feel we were already in a recession in 2019 but because of covid and the influx of money into the system under both administrations (and the money was need) it put a band aid so to say on the recession now we are starting to feel those affects of what we should have started to feel in 2019 we will get out of this but just like in 2008 im getting the same feelings based on reselling that those that are not willing to sell there items for 50% of what they could have sold it for just a year ago are not going to be in business when the dust settles with the 08 recession the dust settled around 2010 so 2 years not sure how long but id say if you can hang on another year or so you will be there when the dust settles so if you got an item for .25 and could sell it $10 just a year ago 2023 in 2024 YOU WILL have to sell it for $5 or less or you will not have sales and this analogy can be used with any amount if you get something for $25 and you could sell it for $100 you need to be ready to be able to sell it for $50 this is 100% 2008 again and this was the ONLY way i was able to survive that time period im an everything seller (which helped me greatly be there when the dust settled) people have money there just not willing to spend as much as they did just a year ago Especially on eBay this is why i preach diversification IN every aspect of your business from where you source to where you sell to what you sell to the price points at what you sell at (low medium and high) to selling all (HIGH STR and Low STR)

This recession has been tough, and there are many people making low offers. I get why they do it, but I wish they would be fair. its the light house or server rotation! its nothing new its been going on for decades but in the last year or so eBay has really RAMPED up this nasty trick they do but they know its only way to allow all sellers to get SOME of the pie then ONLY a select few to get ALL the pie and the majority to get none of the pie. they have 1.8 billion items and only 132 million buyers that is NOT enough buyers for all those items They have to get rid of half those items either by getting rid of sellers or going back to how they use to be regarding listing and Selling Limits they were very Hard core on that (especially with new sellers) and letting loose on it is the cause of this issue (Up and down sales A lot more then there was pre covid) again they have always turned the switch on and off but not as frequent as they again in the last year or so

My sales are still consistent. Some Days only $200, some days over $400+. I only list 5 a day new besides relist/sell similar items. I suggest adding more items as your #1 game plan since you do not really have as many as you have in past months. I know you like a smaller store but 400 items is a smaller store IMO and you said you were around 200. Im sure things will change soon and you will have your best sales day of the year to make up for the duds you had lately.

So many factors that can contribute to slow sales. Economy, eBay glitches, competition, market trends etc. And the thing is that many of the variables are hidden from us or just out of our control. Your channel name sums it up beautifully. Our business is not easy. The good news is that the only constant in life is change. Things will eventually change and the true mark of a successful entrepreneur is that they never give up or give in to current conditions and just keep on moving forward instead. 3 factors: 1) Poor economy, 2) People are charging TOO MUCH for everything, 3) Ebay fee's are wild and unacceptable as well as their weird rules about having to upload new items every so often or you lose the ability to be listed in their searches. Especially if a person is specifically a 'reseller/flipper', if your not buying at a deep discount on your goods then you are definitely overcharging in order to try to make a profit. Which means your not competing with your competition. Everyone has things listed for the exact same price!!! If a flipper CANT compete with pricing then they will fail. The KEY to successful business is the sell of units and UNDERCUTTING the competition. The more you sell the more you make. Small profit margins while selling a high number of units. IF you are trying to make big profits on a single item or 2 then you WILL fail unless you are selling high end jewelry or fine art pieces. It helps to actually take a business class, learn about macro/micro economics, learn about advertising and learn the basic fundamentals of business. The 'get rich quick' method will FAIL.

3:30 Jon.. ty for your gate-closed yard sale analogy! Took me back 10-11 years. In those days, I would research Craigslist getting geared up to go to as many yard sales as possible over a Friday & Saturday, this is back in the Milwaukee area where we lived. So, This one particular Friday I took off work because 20 miles away was a citywide sale and after spending about an hour, and one part of subdivision, I thankfully decided to backtrack while looking over the map I had made of where I had been already, to see if I missed any driveway. Lo and behold as I drove up that main road through there was somebody just sticking a sign on the corner of their little cul-de-sac, Now, it was already like I said an hour past the regular start for everyone else she was starting an hour late. I was her first customer. Oh my gosh dude. I remember it as if it was yesterday… Really nice lady younger than me maybe mid 40s one and a half car garage no one else around and immediately I spotted two shoeboxes full of video game consoles wires and games. All 1st-gen GOLD. After some friendly cat and mouse stuff I was forced to be the first one to throw a number out not knowing if she was expecting five dollars or $500. Mind you there are also some unbuilt still in the cellophane 1970s car models that I was also interested in so it was a package kind of thing. I threw out 25 bucks and she said yeah sure. Needless to say, I also remember clearly walking in the house and telling my wife hon I think we just hit the jackpot. And also mind this was in the “earlier” days those halcyon days of eBay, that some of us are blessed to have 1st-hand memories of.. how crazy and fun it was - without all this insanity & brutality we are experiencing nowadays. That’s been taking place now over the last year plus. So when I walked in the door at home, I said to my wife that I think I just hit the jackpot. She started looking the stuff up. I went on to do something else and come to find out she right away listed at least one of the games.. Snow Brothers. Just the cartridge, no box or instructions. Immediately sold. Someone in Japan. Within seconds.. that never happened to us before. She listed it for $200. We made I believe almost $1000 on all that stuff. True story. Thanks bro for all you do keep it up! Stay frosty.

I have a theory, based on my observation. I've noticed that whenever my "Traffic" statistics are all green (positive), I tend to sell more. These stats are: Listing Impressions, Click-Thru Rate, Listing Page Views, and Sales Conversion Rate. It's impossible to keep them green all the time - it's a roller coaster. But I've noticed when they are all green, I'm selling better. But then again, it could be a chicken or the egg thing. FYI, my sales have been good the last 30 days or so, but I've been listing at least 4 things every day.

But what I have noticed, we have a new screen style of info for sending offers. Hi John. Joe up in Reno. Came to YT today to see if anyone else was reporting that promoted listings is totally busted. They called me a few times to sell me a Promoted Listings plan and I explained to them that after 18 years of USPS and eBay fees rising that my product only has like a buck left for us after expenses and there isn't anything left to suck out of us. As soon as we told them that it's as if they flipped a no sales switch. For my product, only overseas knockoffs show. I do my own version of promo and lots of sell sim but nothing is helping really and I'm surviving on Amazon sales. Now, you can't even get into Promo. It has been showing error for days. So, I think their Promo drive flopped and now they are in full tinker mode and it's not working.

I recognize this sales pattern. You have several days in a row that are up and now you will be down for an equal amount. Prior to that you have a sharper chevron pattern, up one day, down the next. This is up several days in a row, and then down several days in a row. I see the same after several up days in a row. I'm predicting you will be up soon, just a prediction according to patterns I've experienced.

Pay attention to this, I tell people to do this and they never do it. Every time you have a bunch of days in a row where you’re not getting sales contact eBay through Facebook, but now I think it’s the regular eBay page through Facebook now have them check your account and just say your sales have been really slow and it’s really odd and you want them to look over your account to make sure everything’s OK. Within two days your sales will pop right back up. It has worked every time for the past 20 years could be just a fluke, but it worked. Reply to me after you do it.

The last time I contacted ebay about slow sales their representative in India stole all my banking info. Both credit cards linked to ebay were used somewhere else. My checking account was charged 9500$. Somebody used it to pay Mercedes dealership. It took me 6 months to recover that and only after California general attorney office got involved. I have 19 credit cards. Only those linked to ebay were compromised after speaking to ebay representative in India. Think twice before calling them to complain.

I went 4 days with no sales, then sold 10 items in one day. Usually I sell no more than one item per day. I told my friend it was like they opened the flood gates

Just wanted to add - for people that say why would eBay do that ( throttle sales, etc. etc. etc) they want to make money. I TOTALLY disagree! I think they get Off on F-ing with people - eBay couldn't Careless about us or making money. eBay could sell their site tomorrow to any number of companies - in fact, in my opinion, Jamie wants it to Fail! He'll still get his 100 or 200 million and ride off into the sunset and he would no longer have to worry about any of it! So again, you people that think eBay wants to make money you're out of your Frickin ' Minds!!

I'm thinking they know the future is China and they are just stringing us along right now. Go back about 15 years and the then CEO was TOTALLY getting off telling sellers they could no longer leave negative FB. He then gleefully put a "cancel store" button right on the homepage.

My sales dropped for the past 2 months . I was no longer getting the 1% of sales every day like usual but half that. Suddenly my sales kicked back in last week and i am back to 1% sales everyday and better. I believe it is something with the Ebay algorithm as i am still doing the same thing before diring the sales slimp and now with the uptick.

Absolutely, I use the site to purchase but not sell. When people shop there they are already looking to save money, but now they are looking to save even more money.

Sales have been slow due to me having to refund someone for no reason . eBay punished me I’ve noticed

That is the biggest copium I have ever heard lol. Because of a refund, your sales are now all of a sudden bad . People that are doing 50-100 sales everyday even 20-45 sales get returns …. No way they trippin over a return or two a month . Stop the cope and adapt

I became busy doing other things other then eBay last few months, so eBay took the back seat. I expected my sales to drop, seams they kinda leveled out about 1 sold item a day past 3 months or so. The weird thing is sales dropped to 1 item a week 2 weeks ago.

then source low dollar times get them cheap and put best offer and be willing to accept 50% that is what buyers want now its almost exactly the same thing that happen in 2008 buyers wanted items for 50% or more off of the item price sellers that were not willing to do this when the dust settled in 2010 had closed up shop and quit

I sell clothes on eBay and Poshmark and I list on both sites the same day. August was a great month for me and I always sell more items on eBay. Right after Labor Day, my sales on eBay just stopped and I had very few sales all the next week. I also had almost no watchers. It was the worst week I've ever had on eBay. Luckily, I sold more than usual on Poshmark and that makes me think it wasn't the items or listings....it was something wrong with eBay. I've always had ups and downs with eBay, but this time was very odd and lasted a week. I'm still not back to normal on eBay, but selling more this week than I did last week. I do get a lot of low ball offers.

Sales are really bad for me as well I’m full time seller with several categories having to put 9.7%_10% ad rate and still slow sales even with sales events. No idea what’s going on with eBay in home traffic awful.

To re confirm whole countries to which I usually ship to are being blocked in viewing my items. ebay hiding our listings? Buyers are saying they see zero available, at least for me this can indicate why sales are down and no settings have been changed I still ship to those places.

Exactly same as me! 11 days now when the big glitches started! Look at your promoted as mine is no promoted sales! I had 1 sale a day organic.. I complained but nothing 7 days of promoted sales is zero!! I’m so upset as I gave a weekly goal for months I’ve been making my goal with bulk orders.. now nothing !! No offers ..very scary I’m 25 sales down on my week!

I just spoke to someone in inner ebay circle who told me that a new priority search algorithm will kick in soon. Guess who is going to have most exposure? Those who are implementing DYNAMIC PROMOTIONAL rates. You have to play at least 5% now to get something. Until everybody else is doing 5%. Then ebay will implement 10% minimum. It's endless race to the bottom.

Hi yeah eBay turning off and the on. Yes strange big ups and down . Also two scammers in one day and none since 2001 very strange . I think we have to look other marketplaces now for sure. Economy impacts our sales and young generation rarely goes on eBay I think eBay needs to target them Gen Z ! Hope it goes back up for Q4 for everyone ! Have a good week

Same here , long time seller and this might be the worse week of the year , and that’s not saying much. Have over 1500 items and nothing is getting views and terrible offers. If eBay was this bad back when I started 12 years ago I wouldn’t have been able to build this business up to what it is now. Sad , as I’ve got tons of great items and no attention

This is a major downside of buying lots instead of buying individual pieces. You can't control the sell through rate of what you buy with lots. Smaller store with high sell through is better than lots I think. Its a numbers game.

Which is why manifested lots are important and gives you the same control. I still feel as if 90-95% of liquidation pallets arent worth buying for resale so it makes it even tougher.

Sales slow.. but whats saving me is... bolos. Spent 90 on a lot... and made a sale 88 dollars plus shipping. After everything brought back 70. So 20 short. But will make those funds back

We could do a lot different BUT I can not do "Returns for any reason" and "1 day shipping". I just CAN'T do it. I have 3 kids, I'm a one man operation right now. There's no reason to have multiple photos of something that's BRAND NEW and I use a stock photo. NO reason.

@@DapperCatPictures one man operations can do extremely well with same day shipping and buyer pays for returns. When you consider the reasons why you do these things it’s not about the individual processes but more about placement in search vs your competition. If you want to get more visibility on the platform which equals more sales then you have to do these things to stay competitive. As for photos, there are a number of reasons, one being eBay places an importance on how many photos you place into your listings (see the listing quality report). I’m not sure what you sell but if you sell the right stuff you can put the extra time into your listings, have one day (or even same day shipping), shipping accept returns (even at a 5% clip) and you can do great on eBay. I’m living proof of that. Never sell yourself short.

@@FlippinAintEasy I sell alot of patches. There's almost no reason to show a photo of the back side of a patch. I edit all my stock photos with photoshop. If I have to edit 2 photos for a product just to show the useless back side image it doubles my workload. 3 photos, triples my workload. Etc. Unless I use some generic "Made in the USA" flag photo, or upload the same photo 2 or 3 times? By the way how have your sales been this week? Mine were off... But that was because last week I had the best week of the year. You and I both know the ALGO can't let me have another great week. It has to average out my great week into my allowance for the month, so this week has been awful.

I'm a smaller reseller. I usually sell 2 items a day. The last 2 weeks I sold 5 items. This came out of nowhere. It was like a flip of the switch and sales were gone. It was 5 days before I sold another item once this started.

Retirement benefits would make things easier but I would still resell in some capacity. In my case it is Railroad retirement only, no SS.

I'm hard pressed to think of anyone on KZbin that has made a career out of reselling only to the point they could retire off the money they've save from doing it decades. It is almost always a supplement to something or they are living hand to mouth or they disappear after getting a job. Where is the person that made it a business for decades and was able to retire off it?

I blame eBay for this, and they have the obligation to explain why this is. As paying sellers on eBay we have a right for explanations for why this is. I’ve had consistent sales for years, and suddenly in the last couple of days literally 2 sales!! When I became a paying seller on eBay I read their policy and nowhere did it say that they would suddenly without warning would randomly pull the rug from under our feet!! They enforce policies on sellers yet they are not facing any consequences for their actions that affect our sales, this in my opinion is a form of breach of contract by eBay to their paying sellers and if we need to sue eBay then we really should!! They cancel peoples accounts and ruin their lives for whatever failure they committed yet eBay fails and deceives their sellers and face no accountability?? That’s ridiculous
