I have watched a lot of eBay shipping videos trying to understand all that I possibly can as a seller about shipping. You are the only person that has explained that "once the buyer looks at the sellers listing; eBay calculaltes the shipping costs which the buyer will have to pay [if they decide to purchase the item] based on [the sellers zip code and the potential buyers zip code plus the package dimensions which the seller has entered in their listing. For example: for "ground advantage shipping" - I was alway under the impression that the seller had to use a zip code [using perhaps the further zip code from the sellers location] when entering the listing. Thank you. I hope I finally had it somewhat correct.

I appreciate the tip on being able to pass along the eBay negotiated rates to the buyer. I sometimes charge a flat rate to all buyers, or just factor it in the price while offering free shipping. Depending on the item, this could be a good option to have if you need a little edge on the competition.

Always charge the full shipping. Do not charge the discounted EBAY rate you get and here's why. You are charged a fee on the shipping cost. The EBAY shipping discount basically covers that fee plus a little extra which helps cover the packaging costs. The EBAY Fee is basically 14.6% and the EBAY shipping discount is 20%.

When you charge shipping EBAY charges the buyer the retail rate because some sellers still buy retail shipping at the Post Office. Ebay will use your calculated weight etc. to determine the rate to charge the buyer and you get the discount from that. So, if $5 to buyer then you'll pay $4

@homebodyheaven6114 I weight my item I sold at my house all of them. Well 1 package I mailed it said usps refunded me like $1.24. Becsuse my package was under weight. So I guess if you put extra weight and there is a proce difference you automatically get refunded?

Just revisiting this since the USPS First Class change to Ground Advantage is coming soon. I use First Class for a large number of my items (more than 50% of my inventory is under 1lb). Thank you for this informative video. I am a relatively new Ebay seller and currently just choose the shipping and set it up as I am making the listing. In one of your recent videos you mentioned that we need to go back in and check listings to make sure the shipping prices are up to date since the USPS rates are getting ready to increase and I thought this would be a good time to set up actual "Shipping Policies". Question: If I understand it correctly, if you have shipping policies set up for your listings and need to increase the prices, do you just need to update the shipping policies with the new prices and it would update automatically all the listings that currently have that shipping policy?

Whenever I've set up shipping policies, the policy immediately effects all my active listings. I haven't found a way to gradually switch from individual entered shipping to the semi automated shipping. So I always opt out.

USPS does ship to US protectorates with Ground Advantage, im curious as to why you advise to turn them off. Using calculated shipping as i understand it i can offer more to those areas that we commonly exclude by at least giving the buyer the option as they do know how difficult it is to purchase things on eBay as most sellers will not. Calculated shipping , i like the idea to give them the discount and add a handling fee , which the buyer does not see, they only see the total shipping cost. I will say like you i totally learned the hard way about all of these settings and options and got stuck with shipping to a Protectorate , luckily it was not a hard hit as my cost was low but it sure could have been. A calculated policy will let me customize how i continue to sell to those areas and at the same time not lose business to closer zones by passing the discounted shipping to the customer. Being and everything seller its a must to develop customized policies for every and all situations.

The exclusion list (within your specific shipping policy) only allows you to exclude AK or HI and PO Boxes. I had a similar problem with shipping a gin accessory that wasn’t allowed in NY. The only idea I have that could work is if you happen to sell the item to someone in WA, just cancel the sale due to problem with buyers address.

Very timely - just last night I had a buyer attempt to place two items in his cart and then request an invoice. Which I had several other people successfully do all day yesterday. But last night it gave him an error code, saying the seller has requested NOT to allow combined shipping. When I logged in to investigate, eBay switched me to their "new look" experience (which is a dud IMHO). I went to my store and could not even find an area for my shipping preference, etc. Previously, there was a toggle switch asking if I required immediate payment. Now I can't find that at all. I have messaged eBay for business but have not received a reply.

Maybe I missed something regarding the USPS. Earlier this month there were conversations about the length of boxes. Over 22" in length had a premium added to it. The concern was shipping golf clubs, posters and fishing poles. Today I had a box that was 3lbs 44x6x6 going UPS Ground. The first choice was USPS Priority Mail for under $9. Basically same as UPS & FedEx. What happened to the extra cost for over 22"?

I'm getting nailed with charges above what I paid , I'm using Dimensional Weight and rounding up on sizes and weights, still getting nailed !!! The eBay calculator is screwed and costing me tons of fees . I'm getting no help with disputes. Been selling on ebay for 19 years , this by far is the worst glitch I've dealt with that has no chance of resolve . I'm inches away from getting an account with a delivery service outside of eBay. Any advice. If I were new to selling items ( golf clubs in particular) on eBay I would tell eBay to go fly a kite .

At 10:35 you mention USPS 1st class for items under a pound. It is my understanding that as of very recently you can no loner buy that postage online, that it all goes up to priority mail price. Are you still able to buy a 8oz USPS label for $4 or $5?

Can someone explain to me how does shipping work when the seller (me) pays for it? I sale lanyards and this is my first time selecting free shipping to buyers (saw other lanyard sellers do it). My question is should I be selecting EBay’s label or going to USPS, having them weigh it, pay their price and enter the tracking number manually? My thoughts are it’ll be cheaper to go in and have it weighed and pay USPS vs nearly $4 through eBay as I just put the lanyards in an envelope

Aloha🌺🌺🌺 I disagree with checking DO NOT SHIP TO Hawaii & PRico , I have been doing ebay over 20 years and I also now live in Hawaii and Surprise we are part of the United States and shipping COST is the same as the mainland. I have never had to pay more to ship to any state because of being in Hawaii. Also goes for PortaRico . And my feedback proves it’s just as fast. Don’t mean to rain on your parade here but it frustrates me when I want to order online and they EXCLUDE Hawaii. Help me understand the reasoning to exclude. Mahalo

Aloha. I use Fedex Ground for most of my items since they are large and they do not offer this service to Hawaii or Alaska. Now you may then say to use Ground Advantage instead however I get such a good discount with FedEx (better than eBay’s discounted rates) that it makes no sense to change for me.

I have a cluster f**k happening when i list a new item or when I go into already listed item my shipping is screwed up, eBay is forcing there shipping recommendation on me, example: i want to ship something it weights 1 lb. 6ozs eBay keeps the weight but recommends send 1st class mail, if i change to priority mail it automatically change back to 1st class but, red flags the item because the weight to height for 1st class mail so i not able to list anything unless i use the recommendations from eBay. If i open up an old listing it changes it also to recommended hipping method I don't what to do to correct, I'm sure its in the shipping policy's but I'm not sure how to fix that.

I have about a dozen different shipping policies set up to use when i need it. You might need to go in and set up multiple shipping policies that you can interchange. I do find when i list in the app eBay assigns a random weight and sometimes a random shipping policy. You just need to make sure you don’t launch the listing without making sure these are correct. Hope this helps.

I always charge shipping. I don't care about free shipping. I hate making STUPID people think shipping is actually free. I am not an enabler, nor want to be The buyer either is going to spend the money for the item, or not. I did free shipping in the beginning, but never again. I am a part - time seller, and never want to be full-time. Being full-time is uncertain STRESS. Hope it works out for you. I don't want to ever encourage, or offer free shipping no matter how much it may hurt me. I am very picky when thrifting.✌️

Signed up to Ebay a couple of weeks ago and listed my first item today. First item was easy (Just a small manual) however went to list my second item a piece of big box software and I get no option for calculated shipping. Went to set up a business policy as you showed here and in the drop down box i still get no option for calculated. Only options I get are flat rate/courier/local pick up. Not sure if this is just a UK thing or if I have screwed up somewhere? Also have no shipping preferences tab it seems..

Had an international buyer this week contact eBay of France and make something up about the product, ended up losing the product, and having to refund the buyer the entire cost +shipping and i never even got the chance to respond or do anything. Ebay of France ended up contacting me after the fact saying that the item wasn't as described and i had to refund them (after they already took it from me). PS over 1500 positive feedbacks and 3 negative ones over the last year. Im getting pretty sick of all this. (not to mention the fees i had to pay ebay for the sale)

Contact ebay and ask for the Dispute dept. State your case with them. State your case with them and tell them you want your money back. Ebay should never place a seller in the position where you cannot get your merchandise back if a buyer is being refunded.

Yeah I understand what you’re doing. I don’t want to bow to EBay. I’m interested to hear if it works. But my model doesn’t allow for me to do that. I make 90% of my sale from offers. I’m still figuring things out. I think it may make more sense if I was making more sales. I just don’t get how people can sell something for $4 free shipping when shipping is $3.19. Category makes a difference. We go through $500 a month in shipping. If we where pulling in $10,000 a month then sure I’ll take that hit. But I’m not going to spend three to make one I’m too small to take that risk.

Great information and very informative. I have a question that I haven't seen any KZbin videos yet, and that is can we as sellers have Fed Ex or UPS pick up the item we are selling from our home at a discounted rate as well? I'm 40 miles away from the nearest town that has a Fed Ex or UPS store and want to offer those carrier delivery options but afraid of what they may charge to make the trip out to me to pick it up. I also would need additional handling time to drive my packages over to those service locations. Thanks for this video and any additional info you are someone else can provide me.
